Didn't get to use Auctioneer during Open Beta except to try to sell- but I think Blizzard should change the charges (less) for putting stuff on - or allow more time- during week. If EQ is any measure there will be more people on, on weekends - therefor more potential buyers and more chance to sell. Or - don't I understand?? Might as well think about it now - should be at auctioneers by lvl 6 or so.... Argghh - if I could only play NOW !!

Markets always have a little weekly flux, people drop prices to sell on the lower traffic weekdays, the prices spike on Friday night and stay high into Saturday night, then start to drop as the market gets flooded because while there may be more people trying to buy stuff on the weekend there are also more people trying to sell stuff as well. Mondays and Tuesdays usually end up the best days to buy things.

As for the AH in this game, my biggest beef is on the weekends you see lots of buy out prices, but come the weekdays most things are put on long auctions with no buy out as people toss things up before going to work/school/bed.

While its true that there are more people on during weekends, the accompanying point is that there are also more people selling things on weekends. You may in fact get a better sell price on weekdays due to less competition for sales. Although realistically, i think it will be some weeks, even months, before the market will settle in. It will take that long to establish 'fair market value' for stuff.

From: Hrrly on different thread - thought I'd add it here

"And people please.. when you're selling bulk trade supplies don't put it on auction only that lasts a long time. Only do that for the rare components and recipies. Buyout price is your friend, love it, use it. When powercrafting the last thing you wanna do is wait a day or so for a stack of freak'n linen.."

hope it helps others interested in auction dynamics

I found that you can put an item up for sale at a reasonable starting price, then setting a moderately high buyout price, often netted me the buyout price.

Often people hit the AH looking for items they need/want badly and will often pay the buyout price even if it is a little more than they feel it is worth.

I know I do :-)

BUT---people that put an insane buyout price of say...3gp for a stack of linen...will often times not get bid on at all, much less have anyone pay the buyout. People will simply look at it and think "greedy bastage/major lamea$$" and simply not bid on it at all as a form of punishment I guess.

I just look for what I want, and if there are more than one listed with a buyout price I buy the cheapest one. I never bid unless I absolutely have to..I try my best to only buyout. Remember this people. Buyout is more likely to net you some money than people bidding against each other.

I'm a miner/blacksmith. I will be putting buy out on everything I sell. I got reamed a couple of times on high priced items such as weapons when no one bought. All that money for long auction and lose it if no one buys.

Another way I will be selling is by yelling. I found this was quicker and you just barter with the guy. This seems more fun to me than an auction. I suppose I'll be doing both.
