Mounts/mounted combat???Follow

1. I know Paladins get their "custom" War Horse at level 40, but i believe its summoned like other classes summon pets, not bought from a breeder???

2. I have seen equestrian trainers in game, but It appears to me that all classes have to be level 40 before they can learn to ride a horse?

3. Are any classes/races restricted from all forms of mounts?

5. I have seen the Griffons in the game, but they are just for speedy transportation over long distances, the way horses were in DAoC, you rent them, off you go, and your booted when you get to your destination?

6. After you learn to ride a horse, and buy one, are they only a mode of transportation or can they be used for mounted combat?

7. Is the use of horses similar to rented Griffons, where you "summon" one from a stable master, and can only ride it to the next stable master, where its stored while you adventure?

Mounts in WoW are set up much like they were in EQ, you get an item (like a bird cage or a cat carrier except for a Mount) and you can summon it when you want. No they are not like griffons they belong to you and you take them with you wherever you go, you can also put them in a stable but im not sure what the advantage of doing that would be, i think you can only have 1 pet item on you at a time (not sure though, prolly wrong). I think the Palading/Warlocks have spells for summons, like a normal pet spell except you can ride it, not sure never got a paladin or warlock that high. Usually you cannot fight mounted, so i dont think you will be able to in WoW, they are for transport only.

Well it's unfortunate for warlocks because we need a soul shard to summon our pets and thus we loose a pet everytime we do the summons. Even if this was not the case we could easily outrun the pet and it would despawn in a matter of seconds.

Mounts are basically a speed buff that looks like you are mounted on a mount. So it works like in everquest, yeah. They don't interact apart from you at all.

So they don't let you perform mounted combat, or fight with you, or do anything. You must dismount to cast/mine/melee/whatever. Mounts are only a "travelling acceleration buff", basically. It could just as well not even be a "mount" 3d form and just be you running faster, it would be the same thing.

You can't put your mount in a stable, those are for hunter pets.

You are not limited in the number of mounts you can have on you, since they are not really pets. You could have four on you and switch back and forth if you wanted. One female night elf priest in WoW had all the tiger mounts I think, she was rich.

The paladin/warlock summoned mounts still just act like regular mounts and are just as limited. A paladin and warlock could also buy a regular mount if they felt like it, switching back and forth.

mounts are like non-combat pets. you can have however many you want (if you can afford it) but you can only have one out at any given time. it would look cool to be sittin on this horse with two cats in stride, though.

Taurens can only ride Kodo's.

Only mount out there big enough to hold the weight of a Tauren :-).

More info on mounts here

Keep in mind that even if you are on a mount, you are still attackable.

you can also have other races mounts, but its far far harder to get. at least i remember reading that somewhere

To get another races mount you have to get a better reputation with that race. But you only can get mounts that are from races in your faction.

I've seen the Kodo "stable" in one of the Tauren Towns. I think they're rather big, I don't recall all too well.

Just to summarize several previous points:

- a mount increases movement speed by 60% (for alliance, anyway)
- you cannot attack or cast spells while mounted
- you can be attacked while mounted
- an attack can (but does not always) cause you to de-mount
- you cannot mount while in battle

I have not yet come across any monster that could catch me while I was on my mount.
