Warcraft Lore- and poss expansions of WoWFollow

#1 Nov 21 2004 at 3:27 AM Rating: Decent
ive been reading a few sections of the timeline and lore on the WoW offical site, that combined with the events ive known about myself for compleateing all of the previous games.. i have a few questions and a few things to tell you that you might not know

for anyone who hasnt compleated any of the games, particulary Warcraft 3 and the frozen throne expansion, there are spoilers in this post, so read on at your own choice.

first up, so far i havent seen hide nor hair of the highborne blood elves and the naga, let alone their ally illiden stormrage, the demon hunter hero from warcraft 3.
id also liek to tell those who are reading, who dont know.. illiden is not dead.
in the end of the frozen throne it showed arathas and illiden going 1on1 at eachother, and it looked as if illiden was killed, well.. he wasnt, as far as the new blizz lore goes he was defeted and not killed.

im kinda wondering if they will show up later in this game, or wether or not they might appear in later expansions.. perhaps even as playable charicters,

personaly id love to play either a goblin, a blood elf (particulay a warlock), a naga and especally a pandarian (warrior with a staff all the way ^_^) in the frame of new charicter races that may or may not appear in the future.

but as far as lore is concearned.. they have vanished, the pandarians are only mentiond in the roleplaying books, and the blood elves and naga just seemed to have dissapeard.

the top and bottom landmasses on the map i notice are not explorable areas yet, which means we will be able to explore the lich kings strongholds to the north and the homelands of the steamwheel cartel and the goblin trade princes to the south.

im hopeing they bring a third faction or make a few new races that you can choose which faction you side with.
what ever may or may not happen i think we are in for some cool surprises in WoW and future expansions. ^_^

anyone got any personal theorys about what blizz may do? or what you'd like to see em do?

Some people think way to far ahead.

I currntly can't think past next tuesday.

Anyway what I would like to see.
I want to be a demonslayer or one of the other WAR:3 heros also if the named hero's should at some point lead a raid.

Yea, there will definitely be at least one expansion for WoW. I also believe they are considering goblins as a playable race for an expansion.

Do you mean Demon Hunter?

I believe naga are in the game... aren't Myrmidons naga-type mobs? In any case I remember receiving a Level 24 elite quest called "Researching the Corruption" for Blackfathom Deeps, and the quest description talked about killing satyrs and naga for brain stems. I never did the quest, but I'm pretty sure naga are in the game.

As for Illidan and Arthras, I have heard rumours that they are boss mobs available for raid groups.

There are naga type monsters ingame. Also Illidan is supposed to be the strongest NPC ingame.

Illidan in game? Man ima haft to get on a raid for him sometime i really want to kill him...and especially arthas that bastid.

Illidan is supposed to be waiting for you in the outland. Along with him in the Outland are the Blood Elves, Draenei and Naga who have left Naja'tar to follow Illidan.

Yes, there are Naga in the game, they are the ones from Naja'tar, the Naga city under the water (inside the Maelstrom perhaps? I'm not sure about that.)

As for playable races, I'm not sure if you could make a "neutral" faction because... it doesn't work. Goblins don't pick sides because it's bad for business, whereas Pandaren don't pick sides because they're just here to visit. The game doesn't work without the sense of fighting for a faction. It is entirely possible that they will include the Outland races as a faction, but that may or may not happen, we shall see.

As for Northrend, well, the Lich King Arthas is one of the most powerful beings in the world, nevermind in the universe, so it is obvious they're saving that for an expansion. A really high level content expansion.

I still say they're going to use Subs to travel to Naja'tar and bring the beatdown on Azshara, though.

Naga are everywhere.
Blood elves are in the game, albeit there aren't many of them.
Illidan is rumored to be the hardest creature in the game at release.

Your suggestion about playable races is about the 123719237th time I've seen that. Trust me, Blizzard is aware of some players' desire to play a Panda or a Goblin. It just doesn't make good sense to try to suddenly craft a whole new set of starting areas for them though, and would they be a completely vulnerable third faction in PvP? The logistics get even hairier than that, but I won't get into it.

i do hope you mean at release, and not in the game for ever, as arathas, ala the lich king has defeted him once allready.
thus once the icy trundra lands to the north are avalible for us to explore id expect the lich king to be THE arhytypical end game raid monster.

but fighting illiden in a raid would rock ^_^
course the only waywe'd win would eb if we ganked him.. thus no heroic 1on1 fighting hehe :/

You will most likely never be able to raid the lich king, kiljeaden, or illidan stormrage. This would simply belittle the powers the world has.

Theres a difference in putting in NPCs that are required for quests and storyline which can be explained if killed by being simply injured or hey, even have an altar somewhere =P, but implementing illidan, kiljaeden, or lich king would mean that they are meant to be killed.
#17 Nov 21 2004 at 7:08 PM Rating: Decent
one could argue people of that power level such as illiden and the lich king cant simply be killed, but only defeated for awhile.

but hey, my ultimate objective if i were on a PvP server would be to kill thrall or jaina proudmore, depending on which side i was fighting for. after all, for the alliance, thrall is the leader of their enemy, so thall is as much of an epic end game monster as illiden or the lich king is in my eyes. IF i were a good for nothing, egg sucking alliance member that is :P

the fact that thrall and jaina can be talked to by one side, doesnt mean they arnt a perfect monster to fight for the otherside.
after all, to the horde player, jaina is just a monster, and not an NPC.

the only differnece between faction leaders and people like the lich king, is the fact there arnt any players on the lich kings side.. yet.

so i dont view going toe to toe with one fo them as belittleing the powers of the world, after all with raid dungeons that blizz say could last for days and huge dragons to battle, its not unfeasable to suggest we get to fight the signature charicters of the previous games.
and get our asses owned by them unless we have a full group of 30 level 60 hero class charicters.
they plan to have just as much content for after 60th as working towards it.. and i have no idea how they plan to do it, but they intend to make it "epic" and i cant think of anything more epic than doing what ive just suggested.. short of jumping through a portal and raiding the demon world ^^

I sent this text from an ingame book (it's in Cenarion Enclave) that I found to this site as info submission...

I'm not sure how it fits with your lore but here it is. I found a few such books scattered around in various townships that had lore of the world in them.

This book is in Cenarion Enclave in the Rogue's training area behind Erion Shadewhisper on a table.

Exile of the High Elves

Pg #1

As the centuries passed, the Night Elves new society grew strong and expanded throughout the budding forest that they came to call Ashenvale. Many of the creatures and species that were abundant before the great sundering, such as Furbolgs and Quillboars, reappeared and flourished in the land. Under the druids benevolent leadership, the high elves enjoyed an era
of unprecedented peace and tranquility under the stars.

Pg #2

However, many of the original Highborne survivors grew restless, like Illadan before them, they fell victim to the withdrawl that came from the loss of their coveted magics. They were tempted to tap the energies of The Well of Eternity and exult in their magical practices. Dath Remar, the brash, outspoken leader of the Highborne, began to mock the druids publicly, calling them cowards for refusing to wield the magic that he said was their's
by right.

Pg #3

Malfurion and the druids dismissed Dath Remar's arguments and warned the Highborne that any use of magic would be punishable by death. In an insolent and illfated attempt to convince the druids to rescind their law, Dath Remar and his followers unleased a terrible magical storm upon Ashenvale.

Pg #4

The druids could not bring themselves to put so many of their kin to death, so they decided to exile the reckless Highborne from their lands. Dath Remar and his followers, glad to be rid of their conservative cousins at last, boarded a number of specially crafted ships and set sail upon the seas. Though none of them knew what awaited them beyond the waters of the raging Maelstrom, they were eager to establish their own homeland, where
they could practice their coveted magics with impunity.

Pg #5

The Highborne, or Quel'dorei, as Azshara had named them in ages past, would eventually set shore upon the eastern land men would call Lordaeron. They planned to build their own magical kingdom, Quel Thalas, and reject the night elves precepts of moon worship and nocturnal activity. Forever after, they would emprace the sun and be known only as the High Elves.

For more stuff like that, you can check out the official site, they have all the backstory for WoW you'll probably ever need, including spoilers from WC3 and TFT. If you really want MORE backstory, pick up the Warcraft RPG d20 books and the Expansion d20 book, those will definately give you enough backstory (even if the Expansion d20 book is roughly right after the ascension of the Lich King Arthas).
