Price? deals?Follow

Though I'm sure most of us are going to run out on Tuesday morning to get the game, I am considering waiting a bit.

CompUSA has the black friday sale and WoW is only 39.99. Thats almost another free month.
Also, missing the first few days where the newb areas will be ridiculously crowded isn't such a bad thing.

Thoughts? anyone else find good deals?

You know...I do not think the newbie zones on retail day will be as bad as they were the first day and then first friday and saturday of free open beta. True, there are a lot buying it...but look at the chronology...

People off work or without a job will buy it earlier, get installed and registered and move through newbie zones during the day.

School kids will be next, then those of us who will not be home until after 5 PM...

Then, you factor in that there is a $49 price tag plus credit card needed to sign up...as opposed to the free beta which was just...here you go...and that reduces the numbers even more. Spread everyone accross many servers, races and newbie zones...no, while it will be crowded, it will not be as bad as the first day or two of open beta.

I think, as much as everyone would like to buy it, install it and play it the minute is goes live...I think the number will be manageable...new players will not flood the servers but be a steady stream over the first week...and then at Christmas time there will be a mini-flood of new players.

My thoughts anyway.

Nah, he is getting it 4 days after...it comes out this coming Tuesday, black friday sales are the Friday after that.

I thought about pushing it back as well. Maybe getting it in a few weeks. But the way I look at it is that all the people I would want to party with are probably going to get it on release day. Those are the people that know the worth of the game and know what they want to get out of it.

ie: it'll be easier for me to get into a static party in the first few days.

haven't found any deals..

but I had my husband run down and get two copies reserved for launch day..

I know our area, and if I would of waited, I'd still be in line to get it in a month.. :(

So I'll see all you guys on Tuesday.. :)

I have one question for anyone here who knows the answer. I want to know if the collectors edition will include a strategy guide? I know it says a signed game manual is included but I dont think its a stategy guide, but just the standard guide that comes with every video game. I would really like to recieve a strategy guide with something I'm paying 87.00 exactly for. I look on the EBGames site and they have a collectors edition strategy guide on sell for 29.99 with a WoW bindeer and a regular stategy guide with for 24.99.

I dont really need a strategy guide, but I sure would like to have it just for collector's purposes along with all other nice collectors edition items. The signed manual or guide, 10day friend pass, and the cloth map are what got me to buy the collectors edition, if there is no strategy guide I wont be getting the CE version and my friend will just have to buy his own copy. No free 10 days for him unless he wants to purchase me a strategy guide.

Edited: Grammar corrections

Anyone else here pre-order it back in the day when EB listed the CE version at $49.99?

I have to disagree with your analysis, lhuffman. You are working under the assumption anyone who gets the game on day 1 will start playing at the earliest possible minute, will play quickly and efficiently, and will bust their butt to get out of the first zone. I see it as more likely that people will have difficulties logging in for the first time and setting up their accounts, etc., after the time delay it takes them to actually go pick up their game and mull over the stuff in the box.

Then they will get started, amid some competition. Supposing even moderate competition, it will take them close about 90 minutes to leave the immediate starting area. The best of players probably takes over 3 hours to get through the entire first zone normally, if they rush and skip content. Most players will gravitate more toward a 5-6 hour time block if they know how to play, 8-10 if they don't. Add in competition that will be increasing as each of your social brackets starts logging in, and you're going to see a huge glut in Teldrassil, Elwynn, Durotar, Mulgore, Dun Morogh, and Tirisfal.

For anyone that DOES manage to get to the second zone, it will be sheer bliss by comparison, but those people will probably have a difficult time of it because they left the zone too early. Others will have run to Ironforge to get their guilds together. Some will have taken time to start all their characters to "lock" the names they want. Any number of things can delay a person who isn't singularly motivated to getting out of that newbie zone against all odds.

And the odds will be against them. Say what you will about the increased spawn rates. It will still be hell. Except for very off-peak hours, it will continue to be throughout the weekend. The only thing that will help this at all is, ironically, the holiday itself will force many people out for a day. College students will likely have travelled home and might not have the means to play from there if they leave their computer at school.

The price tag will not deter most people. A person interested in this game is either going to get it now or not get it until much later. For every person who was in OB and won't be playing, there will be someone else who will be that wasn't. It's just a question of how many get started on day one, wait for the weekend, or wait until Christmas. The serious players, the ones who will care about the spawn competition rather than taking time to fool around idly, will all be day one players.

90 minutes for the newbie zone? Smiley: yikes Doing every single quest and getting to level 5 took me an hour, even cold on a race I had never played before on a different server than my normal beta server.

My own Smiley: twocents is that those of us who are unemployed scum [or vacationing scum] will log in, sign up, patch and get our characters re-entered [yups, I have the names and professions, classes and appearance ready to go] and in game and out of the newbie zone [at least on one character]in a fairly short time.

I personally plan to get comfy, Smiley: boozing and have fun. I think my hunter will be the first one I will get in game. Not that my goal is to make serious levels fast, but more to get her out of the newbie zone and out having fun Smiley: glasses

I have it preordered and overnight shiping so hopefully it gets to me on Tuesday sometime. Anyway I like the first week of a game. Yes there are lots of poeple and it's hard to complete the quests, but it's all lots of fun IMO. In fact I think it's less fun when there are few people around.

Ah, well...remains to be seen. I just do not think it will be as much of a nightmare as is being touted...on the other hand it could easily be worse. No one really knows now, do we. I was just expressing my thoughts on it based on previous MMORPG beta/releases I have participated in.

I'm getting my classes/races/names down beforehands, but I didn't play the beta, so as far as appearance goes, I know I'll be spending precious minutes with that. Anyone know if there's an online appearance calculator anywhere? (I'm only half-kidding. ;))

OMG I can not begin to tell you how great it's going to feel to roll a character in retail and KNOW it's not going ANYWHERE for a long long time.

I can't even count how many toons I rolled over the course of beta and just went through the motions with the newb zones. It's going to feel so good to finally get it done for real.
