Map, Map markers, and other Noob QuestionsFollow

Hey guys,

I have played WoW open Beta for ..........3 days !!! Woot !

What I want to know is , is there any website out there that gives you MAP / GRAPHICAL information on where to go for a certain quest or trainer?

EQ has positional vectors I believe, and so does FFXI (both position and ability to add your own markers on the map), but I did not find that in WoW when I was playing it. I find it very difficult to track where to finish the quest after I complete it (usually because I forgot where the NPC is ahahha). Yes, I know they provide that yellow dot in your little radar....but if you are not close to them....you can't see them.....

Also.....I really do not like the interface for the chat system in WoW.....is there anyway that I can change that ? . I heard they came up with a custom UI .....how do I make one ? Is it hard to make one ? Where do I download templates or work of other ppl?

There is no other information you get on the map

Most of the information you need to know during the quest is in the quest window.

If you don't know where exactly where the quest is from the directions you can ask around or, do I say it, explore

also if you are given a letter or note, read it! It often explains where the person is or should be. And also has some story line in it.

Quest details ussually tell you where the person is in a general location, but if you do feal you need to write down the exact coordinates, there are ways to make the coordinates show up, but I just know this because of its use in Cosmos.

If in town, talk to a guard and they will mark your map with locations of NPCs (trainers, merchants, bank, auction house, etc..)

What ya mean? It's been in the game since I started playing the beta with Stress Test 2.

Ask the guard where to find the Rogue trainer in Goldshire, they say "I don't know about that sort, talk to NAME. She's known to hang out with that sort."

And they'll put a marker on your map.

Umm, I was kind of refering to the fact he was talking about quest mobs and his inability to remember their location =P.

He mentioned he couldn't remember where the NPC is after completion either.

That's actually the only thing I have trouble with. The quest descriptions are great, makes finding the quest area and mobs fairly easy.

It's getting back to the quest giver that's a pain.

I do agree that the quest details are 9 out of 10 times spot on and if you just read hard enough youll find something you missed...but im still kind of confused how finding the starting NPC coinsides with gaurd markings?

Although im still waiting for answers to that whole space time continuum thing...guess somethings aren't meant to be known.

If you really have trouble with the starting NPC you can always write it down

Placement. Quest NPC was near such and such a place. Find the nearest landmark. Makes it easier.

That's how I actually found the Head Druid in Darnassus. Quest out of Dolenaar had said he was in the Druid Grove, which wasn't labeled on the Darnassus map. So I talked to a guard and found the Druid Trainer, reasoning they may be the same person, or would be close together.

They were close together.

Edit:

It's an association thing. Quest giver was at the Inn. Use guard to find the innkeeper. Get close enough the gold marker will show up on mini-map and the gold "?" above the guy.

I highly recommend Cosmos UI from www.thottbot.com

Has a TON of options and really makes the game more playable for me. And you can mark coordinates and I think the newest build lets you put markers on the map although I haven't tried yet.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I will try talking to the guard and see what I can do with the Cosmos UI.

And yes...my question was how to get back to the quest giver and not how to find the monsters to kill for a quest.

Thank you all !!! Woot !

The only place I know of that shows locations of NPCs is thottbot, because it directly inputs the information from the user interface.
