the official sites forums was hacked by some EQ2 ppl. they where taken offline trying to track the hackers. the hackers used GameFAQ.com's boards as a planner and attacked the WoW website head on hacking the MOD's accounts and changing their post. It was funny but at the same time it wasn't very nice.

Why would they do that?

That's pretty stupid thing to do.

Do they think they're cool now?

It is funny, Blizzard would edit or delete all posts that was anything remotely negative about their game.

They deserved it for being such democrats.

It was pathetic. What they changed the posts to was't even believable, but did create a lot of confusion. How immature can you get? I guess they feel a little threatened by the upcoming release... Now we have no forums to bug Blizz about a server list on. *sigh*

I honestly pity people like this who seem to have to cause problems for other people in order to feel good about themselves. So now those of us who had hoped to do some last minute research for our retail characters find the web site closed and we’re just SOL.

Hopefully Blizzard can fix their boards and we can get on with having fun. And I also hope they catch the jerks who did this and prosecute them to the full extent of the law.

I didn't see anything about EQ2 in the posts on GameFAQs (of course, I didn't notice if they were the EQ2 forums... so it's still possible). I just saw someone who sounded very 'teen' bragging about the idea that Caydiem may get fired due to these actions that apparently this person instigated.

It's unfortunate that something like this had to happen... especially for the silly reasons the hacker claimed they did it. I don't understand why someone would have such a hate for someone without actually even knowing them. In this example, Caydiem is nothing but professional on those forums so it's very confusing why she would be targeted. Same with Tyren for that matter.

The really disturbing thing is how easily this was apparently done. Really does make me wonder about security issues in WoW as the forums may be linked to the game data somehow (as it seems to draw from it for some things) meaning a lot of information may be compromised if it's so easily hacked. I really don't want to see a hackfest game like Diablo2 again. That was a great game (given it's time) that was ruined by such things.

Very true. It is this kind of action that makes them look like the immature people that they are. It is not funny, cute or even remotely redeeming. It is immature and damaging. It is no different than vandalizing a business establishment...same net effect and same infintile and sociopathic mind.

And it's not even remotely funny.

Actually, it's just pathetic.

It sucks for the fans, but what about the people who had a difference of opinion and had all their posts editted?

You think Blizzard had a right to edit their posts so no negative feed back could reach the community?

I've seen posts that had legit questions about balance totally removed or changed. And when that person asked why they removed it, he was banned.

Sorry, but this is retrubtion. If the EQ2 player did just to bring the WoW forum down without any regards to the Blizzard post changing, htne I agree it sucks.

It is blizzards right to edit and delete posts that they feal uncontributional to their forums. Coming from an EQ2 player its kind of odd that he would do it seeing as how SOE does the same.

Hrm there was plenty of negative stuff on the forums that never got edited.

It was EQ2 that did that...

Also EQ2 boards were closed to the public for most of beta, WoW was always open access.

I've always found the gamefaqs.com boards to be the most juvenile of any I visit. This doesn't surprise me at all. I'm sure Blizzard will have us up and running in no time.

I looked at the EQ 2 boards on gamefaqs, and I find it hillarious how many of them took it personally that the game got a rating of 8!

Actually to post on the WoW board, you HAD to have a BETA account.

Also from what I have seen on the WoW board, most of the ones deleted/banned were done so as there was nothing constructive in the entire post.

Pointless flaming without a suggestion for a resolution SHOULD be deleted/banned, no matter what the BETA forum is, EQ, EQ2, WoW, whoever.

Yeah you had to have an account to post. But you could still read the wow forums atleast...SOE has always tried to keep everything a secret till the end.

They have a right to moderate their forums according to their own rules and standards. Payback? Get real.

You all obviously haven't ran a forum before and respected people's right to opinions have you?

I made a post on blizzards forum about the tos basically saying in legal terms taht they could cancel the game the day after release and they would owe us crap.

It also said they were not even required to fix bugs.

It said they were allowed to take data from our pc whenever they damn well pleased.

And it said they do not recommodent the UI customization yet they have offical forum on the topic!

They deleted my post stating those thigns and that is Exactly what the tos says if you read it, I just thought it was kinda funny.

If the reason the person hacked the forums is because Bliz modifies and deletes posts..

Thats even more pathetic then I thought.

What? That doesn't make sense. How/why would they link a forum up to a game?

He means that the Forums use in game login system to use your ingame characters as your posting name/avatar, but that doesnt mean that them being able to hack an account means that it is possible to hack serverside information relating to the game(like items and characters).

When you logged in to the forum, it pulled your chars from the WoW server to use for posting.
