Rouge, really a good amage dealer?Follow

#1 Nov 16 2004 at 7:33 PM Rating: Default
Rouge seems like a very cool class, but reading it over reminds me of Thief for FFXI. Thief is the joke class of FFXI.

They do terrible damage and rely on two special abilities that they get way later in their levels. Without those two abilities (Sneak Attack & Trick Attack) Thief would be nothing. Personally, with the cool down time of SATA Thief is a waste of a class and a huge joke in a party. Theif does as much damage as a White Mage (FFXI healer class). Which did less then 10 damage points per hit. That is really bad.

Is Rouge any different? Is Rouge the answer to FFXI Thief?

Rogues are the best none magic using damage dealer in the game. IDK which is better, rogue or mage, at dealing damage.

Fun watching a good rogue tear a monster its level up in a few hits

actually, I'm not certain that rogues aren't the best dps type altogether. at level 60, with top-tier equipment, I think rogues will be outdamaging even mages.

thanks for the replies... This seems like an awesome class. One I will pick at launch of retail.

I'm glad you're switching to WoW if thats what you think of FFXI's thief class.

JP has company on this one... thef is one of the best dd classes in FFXI after lvl 15. If this is how you understand thef and FFXI then by all means please switch to WOW.

Have room at the table for a Dragoon?

I loved having a thief in my party when playing FFXI, I tended to be the SA/TA partner.

That's the first person I've ever heard that called thief the "joke" class of FFXI.

I'd rather have a thief then a ranger. Thieve's can pull as good as a Ranger and a well-landed SA/TA is a great thing.

Did somebody disrespect the FFXI thief class? Good thing you will be in WoW. Famke V2 will smack you up some.

reddDOTdragon, you really have little knowledge about the FFXI class you're talking about.

First, THF in FFXI don't get their Sneak Attack/Trick Attack *way later in the game*. SA at lvl 15 and TA at lvl 30 which is relatively early, especially SA.

Second, with these two abilities, THF is one of the most (the most in my opinion with the parties I've partied in) damaging class from lvl 15ish to around 40, even counting the damage class such as DRK or DRG. The damage was even comparable to a RNG in some parties. Although it levels off somewhat after 40, THF is still an important class due to their hate control ability, and does wonders in parties with NIN as tank.

As of the Rouge class of WOW, it's a wonderful and interesting class with many abilities available at hand to adapt to different situations and mob types. I don't know much as I haven't been that far in the game yet. But as of now the Backstab is doing great damage, not to mention the combos and its finishing moves.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree with you guys. I'm no THF, but being PLD, I saw how good can THF be at dealing dmg in FFXI. It's not my favorite DD in the game, but they very good. Heck, they open battle with a 400+ dmg SATA and close most of the SCs ( namely Distortion and Light ) with 600-1000 dmg. THF bad DD ??? Ever heard of Viper Bite, Dancing Edge, Shark Bite ? Hehe

Eh, what's all this about thf being a bad DD in FFXI?

Only 36 thf here, but when I do level, I outdamage the blm from time to time on regular SA alone, nonetheless satavb.

The original poster is probably some kid that got stuck at level 13 or so in Valkurm and didnt have the attention span to keep at it. Rate down, and I'm glad you are moving to WoW. Means less retards I have to deal with in FFXI.

Although I'm glad this schmuck is leaving FFXI, I hope he's not representative of the WoW players. I don't like the idea of any MMO community being filled by fools like this one.

To OP: Please don't play a Rogue in WoW if you can't understand the utter beauty of a Thief in FFXI.

I am a level 30 Thf leaving FFXI for various reason. Thief is my favorite job in FFXI, if you learn your job you'll make others cry when they see your Fuidama (SATA) land and the damage scroll by.

I would never enter into the discussion of who in FFXI was the best DD, but Thief was by no means on the lower end of the totem poll.

Personally I love how Rogue is looking in WoW, but if you can't hack it as one I wouldn't suggest attempting the other.

People shouldn't play a class if they don't know how to spell it =\.

When people call "Rogues" "Rouges", I think of Nicole Kidman, bad singing, fruity dancing guys and a midget that talks faster then most people can think. If that's an actual class, I wanna see how it plays out!

Can we please stop with the "I'm glad you are going to WoW" responses?

Sure, the OP probally doesn't have experience with the thief job, but that doesn't give the FFXI people the right to bash WoW, saying he represents the average WoW player.

All that statements sounds, is that he belongs in WoW, with the rest of the rejects...

Uhhh.....it was almost a prerequisite for a DRK at those lvls to sub THF for sneak attack/trick attack alone. Saying THF doesnt do damage just doesnt make sense to me.

And yes, they do a lot of damage in WoW as well. I have a rogue friend that I group with a lot. Were always trying to out damage each other and he gets a lot of hits in as smaller damage while I get larger damage but slower in hits due to casting times. Normally mages alone can tear through a single mob and in most cases we find it easy to take on packs of 2 to 3 by ourselves (sheep one while I take out any additional adds and he takes main target). We will even do "gather this item" quests because we can do them much faster than soloing.

I even had the luxury of being in a pt full of rogues and we finished Wailing Caverns and completed at 3 or more quests there. This was done with no healers, good pulling, and good crowd control.

Even though Im a mage....I give props to you thiefs/rogues out there.

ADD: I forgot to mention that some of the best duels I have had with players is against Rogues.
