Hello to all WoW beta testers and curious ppl like me. First off I would like to say in my first visit to this page there is tons of great information so hats off to all of you who contributed!

Now as per the subject line: Which class looks to be the most widely used and why? The reason I ask is cause I have a PLD in FFXI (Im really sick of it) and have been throwing back the idea between a Rogue, Warrior or perhaps Paladin (Human race) when i start up as soon as I get my hands on a copy of this game.

Anyhow, I would appreciate it if someone could briefly outline the main differences between the three (aside from a PLD being able to heal) (and the dual wield option for wars at 20 rogues at 10) and maybe help make my choice a bit easier. (or just point me to the thread!)

Which class is best for soloing and why? As well, if I chose Paladin, would I be a backup healer/damage dealer in pt situations cause that isnt really what im looking for and am still reading about the ins and outs of each class so any and all Info is really appreciated to facilitate my decision.

Thanks again and sorry for the long rant!

Haha thanks for the reply! I forgot to add something to my question actually for the beta testers. Right now in beta testing which class do you see the most of running around? I.e more rogues or more warriors etc? Also in terms of soloing, paladin would be best? I just want to have my cake and eat it too so let me know if this can be done with PLD's :D

I’ve seen more rogues then warriors, but I’m also still a low level. So my experience is of what I’ve seen in the first two zones. As far as soloing…everything that I’ve read is that any class can be adapted into a solo roll. So, yes Paladin is a valid class to solo with. Is it a better class to solo with….I’m not sure. I’ve been playing with a priest, and my lack of melee skills has not slowed me down one bit.

I have been playing a mage and do very well too.

OK, here are the classes I have seen the most of:

Human Pally
Night Elf Druid
Night Elf Hunter
Undead Warlock
Orc Warrior
Tauren Hunter
Tauren Shaman
Dwarf Hunter
Dwarf Priest

OK, so that is what I have seen the most. I have spent more time in certain zones than others, so this is by no means accurate...just observation.

I do not see as many rogues...though they are out there. (hehe maybe I don't see them because they are sneaking). I do not see as many Gnomes. I do not see as many trolls.

But...as stated in another post...all races and classes are well represented. Unlike EQ, where you can play for days without seeing a certain combo...I have run into every race/class combo there is.

I will add that this is beta. Everyone is trying combos to see what they will play. I am sure that the number seen is not accurate as to what will be seen once retail hits.

It depends on what race, the more of a class you see running around.

Human, I've seen more Warriors and Mages.

Tauren, Hunters.

Night Elf, Druids and Hunters.

Dwarf, Warriors and Hunters.

Gnomes, Mages and Warlocks.

Undead, Warlocks and Warriors.

Trolls, Hunters and Rogues.

Orcs, Warriors.

Welcome to WoW gclab,

Warrior vs. Paladin:

Check out this thread on the main WoW fansite forum

People are crying that Pally's are way overpowered now, but just last month they were way underpowered too, so.....

Thought that might get you started.

Meh, in my opinion, the first thing that warrior should have done was get a shield and a 1h weapon and shield bash when ever the paladin was casting any spell to interrupt the casting. Really, instead of sticking to one formula, he should have went with a different strategy...

Yes, off topic. Sue me ;P

On the horde side I see allot of hinters and shammy's. I would have to say to make it easier I would ask what classes do yu see the least?

Paladin is indeed meant to be a backup tank and healer/buffer. If that is not the role you want to play then go warrior.

All classes in WOW solo fairly well. For warrior just work on first aid and buy/make good food and your downtime will be minimal. Keep some potions on hand for emergency heals or just pick your fights so you won't need emergency heals.

Docked about 8hrs a day since open beta came out, on both test 8 and test 40, played quite a few of both Alliance and Horde (made and played 2 of each race between level 10 and 35, all but Gnomes, can't stand them) . Typically what I see is this for most favored classes per race.

Human - Warriors then Paladins
Dwarf - Warriors then Hunters
Night Elves - Hunters then Druids
Undead - Warlocks then Warriors
Taurn - Warriors then Hunters
Orcs - Warlocks then Warriors
Trolls - Shaman then Hunters

Definatly seems the main trend for alliance is Warriors over Paladins, and off 2 servers I've seen more Warlocks than I can count, I'd say the most favored class in the game is Warlocks right now, followed by Warrior. Personally if you ONLY plan on soloing your best choice is Pally, he has self buffs and quick heals. If you want to mix it up a bit between group and solo, Warrior is a good choice. But, while a rogue can't tank very well, he has the higher DPS, and if you play sneak thief, you can become rich fast, running around as a Dwarf Rogue for a while I was finding a LOT of decent treasure chests right in mobs camps!

whats wrong with Rouges? Are they a waste of a class or something? No love for the Rouges... :(
#15 Nov 16 2004 at 7:44 PM Rating: Decent
I am playing a shaman right now and they can hold agro about 10 time better then a warrior. It's pretty sad actually. All classes can solo pretty well in this game.

Thanks for that info on rougues. I want to get off to a quick start on WoW and I couldn't decide between Rogue or Pally.

I don't know if beta is the best way to evaluate what people will play retail. I'm currently playing a hunter, because I wanted to check out their talents now that they are in, and because I wanted to get it out of my system before retail hit.

Of course, now I am having a hard time considering other classes =). I should really play a warrior for my guild, but I don't enjoy the way they play as of the last patch. Hunters are currently full of "just got talent" love- they'll probably be nerfed in the future.

If Blizzard succeeds in the class vision they describe, I'd expect to see another "holy trinity" to emerge. As it is, warriors, mages, and druids seem most frustrated, for reasons you can find on their respective boards. Every class has its' detractors, but those three seem to have lost the most faith from their beta advocates.

I just pre ordered my copy of WoW yesterday from EB and I have to say I was pretty surprised to see this thread jump so much! But really, awesome replies and great info!

I want to party cause I love doing that and helping others the bigger picture etc but from what I understand you can solo any class providing you plan it out well enough so this is very welcome news:D

Thanks again for the info and feedback and Im happy to hear that PLD's or Rogues are not running around everywhere you go making them a bit less common which is nice to hear.

Thanks again for the info!!

My prediction:

1. Rogue
2. Hunter
3. Paladin
4. Mage
5. Warrior
6. Shaman
7. Druid
8. Priest
9. Warlock

The reasoning?

Some of these classes people just find "cool" to play. How many people wanted to play hunters from day 1? How many people play paladins purely because they're paladins?

And then there are the classes that the people who track the game know to be powerful, useful, or fun. Mages will be foremost among these, and warriors for the non-magic types. Shaman would rank higher if it were not Horde only. Rogue is at the top of the list because it rates highly in both these criteria.

Then we have the runners-up. People say the fewest overall negative things about druids. Priests are truly unfavored, but are also the supposed prime healing class, which will draw a few people in. Warlock, I'm sorry, but they just suck imho and many other people's.

And to color the bias, here are my personal class preferences:
1. Paladin
2. Priest
3. Hunter
4. Shaman
5. Mage
6. Warrior
7. Rogue
8. Druid
9. Warlock

The top three could go in any order. Shaman would be very much in the mix if I weren't an Alliance person. Out of the non-favorites, mage is the best for my playstyle, and warrior and rogue are ok. As much as I love the role of healer, I absolutely loathe playing druid, as it and warlock are the only two classes I could not stomach to go so far as level 10 in, even.

Warriors need some kind of agro ability. As it is my shaman has a spell that increases agro and also a weapon buff that generates agro when the weaon hits the mob. Warriors so far have nothing but a weak taunt that doesn't work and really no one uses defensive stance anyway.

*sigh* I use both stances in battle for all my hate control needs...Worked out for me especially in parties where I'm the only melee and in Wailing Caverns no less. People just need to start learning how to play their class right...

If you are the only melee you don't have much constest for taunt. My shaman will easily take the agro away from your warrior. I garuntee that.

Defensive Stance has been improved to hold aggro more effectively.
Taunt: removed rage cost and global cooldown.

Erm... doesn't anyone like tanking anymore? Please?

Then you aren't playing your shaman right. You're not supposed to take aggro. Melee more and use flametongue and flame/frost shock to counter the taunt on rockbiter and earth shock.

Again, I will explain it one more time, the point to the warrior is not to keep hate, it is to make it so that others will not recieve it. We have debuffs up the wazoo, including abilities that lessen the movement of enemies. Why? To stop the enemy from approaching mages. If a warrior is not using both battle and defensive stance in a party to manage hate, then he's not a good warrior. With taunt hitting 0 cost rage wise, there should be no reason why warriors can't switch stance.

Just wanted to say that take a look at my gear. I've managed to hit crits quite a few times and my 1h sword (Cursed Felblade) isn't too shabby damage wise, niether. I have the ways to keep hate and btw, I partied with a shaman, priest, mage and druid. While hate was lost at times, I managed to keep monsters from doing much to the mages (Including the shaman and druid. Face it, they are not meant to take damage in any form except for Druid. You need bear form, though ;P)
