Hello everyone.
I was told yesterday by a friend that they may not be wiping the servers at the beginning of release.Meaning we will not have to forfiet our current Char's. I'm only lvl 20 so it's not a big deal but I would rather not redo everything but understand thats how all of these Beta's work , but I thought it would be cool. I was sure he told me this information was only a "maybe" not anything set in stone.
When I came in to work today I was curious about where he had seen this information and searched to look it up. He said it was officially from Blizzard.
Has anyone seen or heard of this and does anyone know where this info may be posted? Thanks in advance.

If you want PAGES AND PAGES of this topic, try the general forum at the official site.

It is getting out of hand! They sticky this topic in particular, and they are up to their 11th stickied topic, usually about 40 pages of posts in each one.

WIPE!

DON'T WIPE!

over and over again.

So no, Blizzard has NOT issued anything about it yet, but I am betting they will likely wipe. I would prefer they didn't, people say "Not fair to the newbies!" I say "Not fair we need to be jammed in the newbie zones like sardines! ALSO! It is NOT a competition! There is no fair/not fair!"

Aside from that I could care less if they delete, It won't take more than a week or two to settle, if it takes that long.

They'll be a wipe. First, it's a terrible idea NOT to. While it is tedious to go through levels again, the fact is that, especially on PVP servers, people in Beta already have a huge advantage over people just starting out in knowledge. If you add levels and equipment onto that, it's an insurmountable advantage. Secondly, you want people to play the game for a long period of time. You wouldn't want a guild to be at max level when starting out and then spend the next year or so ******** that they don't have enough content (if you make them re-level they might only ***** for 10 months).

They are mostly talking about not whiping the OB characters. The CB characters will be whiped or moved to a test server. It would be insane to keep the CB characters considering how much the game has changed during CB.. heck you can't even make a dwarf mage now!

OB is essentially release client, no real reason to whipe aside from the pvp advantage. I would like them to not whipe just so I don't have to deal with overcrowded noobie areas.

Wipe.

I haven't concentrated on one character anyways. I've been exploring all the starting areas, trying different classes, getting a real feel for the game.

Besides, you should be able to get out of the newbie areas in 1/2 the time it took you previously, just because of your experience.

Also, I'm looking forward to helping out the people that didn't play in OB.

I know there have been volumes about this...but I have not posted once about it...so here is my one shot at beating this dead horse. :-)

I personally would prefer a wipe. Actually, to be more precise, I am wiping my characters, even if they do not. The reason? I have played these characters like beta characters. Have taken chances with them. Tried different armor and weapons. I have followed one tradeskill...deleted them and then tried another. I am using the beta to get all of the knowledge I can so that when retail hits, I can make the best decisions and have the most fun with my characters. So...these toons that I am playing now are doomed.

Interesting point, though...I had fun just not caring about the long term abilities of these guys. My pally has done leather/skinning mining/smithing herbal/alchemy. I do not care to stick with one because I will never get him that high before retail. Lets me try them out.

As for fair...well, all of us in beta already have an insurmountable advantage in knowledge that no wipe will ever overcome. The day they wipe and start fresh, the beta people will hit each quest with precision, handle all drops accordingly...know exactly where to train for what and where to find drops. This fact alone will un-jam the newbie zones. Beta players will just plain level faster. And the graphics are so cool, the true newbies will be simply enjoying it and taking it all in (remember your first day in WoW? I walked around and looked at everything...ran into and out of every building. Talked to every NPC and laughed at all of the different replies...lol).

And lastly, even if they do not wipe, I am not worried about fair. I will still delete my toons and start fresh. It is not a competition. It is a game. To me, starting a fresh toon or two given all I have learned with beta will be the most fun for me.

they arent talking about anything publicly. you say they are talking about not deleting the OB chars they havent said anything period about it. players are talking about it is all.

for my oppinion on it i say whipe. mainly for PVP reasons but i already see CB testers going into noob zones and killing a bunch of NPC's and PC's. i am not saying anything is wrong with this but it makes it hard on the new players. yes there will always be new players but when a mass of people start playing posibly hundreds of thousands of new people they need to level the playing filed.

Anyone who wants to be in a OB or CB should go in knowing there chars will be whiped. we are here to test the game not to get a month (or even more for CB) headstart on the game. they didnt out out OB for people to start there chars early which is what most of the people think. they did OB so that we can test the stress capasity of there servers and TEST THE GAME. every tester should know this and if they dont or dont want to deal with it then they shouldnt test

Listen they got 500k people playing on the beta. There's no way they cam put all those people on a test server. And there's no fair way of deciding who goes. There will be a wipe they won't announce it because they don't want people getting mad and leaving. They don't want people rioting on the boards. So they will hold out on a official response until it is too late. But rest assured there will be a wipe.

This is the truest statement about character wipe and open beta test.
