Best Pet Class, Hunter or WarlockFollow

#1 Nov 13 2004 at 11:31 PM Rating: Decent
Im a bit fuzzy on the pet thing.

Hunters tame a pet and keep him forever (right?) and a Warlock gets a new one ever 10 lvls.

Do both pets get stronger as the player lvls?

I know its subjective to ask which is "better" but any explanations about the differences and opinions (I wont hold you to em :) ) would be appriciated, since I am debating creating either a dwarf hunter or a human warlock.

Thanks

Yes, a hunter can start taming a pet at lvl 10 after they finish the 4 quests. A pet will keep up with you in level. So, they do get stronger. My wolf, appropriatley named Wulfen is a lvl 16 wolf. While I am a lvl 16 hunter.

Warlocks pets a don't have to gain exp to level. As long as the warlock lvls the pet will still maintain the same level.

Right now there is a major issue with the warlocks high end pets. The infernal has to be enslaved and when he breaks which can happen at any time then your group is done for because he turns on the group. Thus it is a very high risk spell because he breaks a lot. So basically we loose use of your top 2 pets infernal and doomguard because of the risk of using them. You can read about it on the wow board:

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/board.aspx?ForumName=wow-warlock&PageNo=1&ThreadsPerPage=1&SortDir=Asc&ChangeSort=true&SortField=creation

I was thinking of warlock because of the soloability but now I am thinking no because once you get to the high end you are still only able to use the low end pets. Blizzard has already stated that they have no intentions of changin it either.

Don't forget Priests, they also get a combat pet via a "charm" style spell, only humanoids, and very much like high end warlock summons they can break loose - head back on the party. It seems higher end Hunter pets are pure melee, and you can always release your pet to get another sytle of beast. Warlock pets tend to lean more to spellcasting and crowd control. Priests have the option to choose either depending on what they charm, but always at the risk of it turning on you. Oh yeah, and no, you don't get your pet *forever* as a hunter, if you don't keep it happy it can turn on you also.

With all of this taken into consideration what class do you think would be best solo wise?

I'm all warlock but really there's no classes that really makes me say yah that's definately the class for me. But warlock comes the closest. I'll worry about the high end issues when I get there.

What has got me really worried right now is this whole population cap on servers where you basically have to wait in line to play. Which will soon be a real issue because people will just stay logged in so they don't have to wait and thus it will take others forever to get in. If this concept goes to live then I am 100% sure I will decide against wow. Waiting to play a game i paid for is just unacceptable for me.

I am also totally sick and tired of the pre pubescent attitudes of the people in the wow forums. If my kid acted like that I would beat his ***. This is the only place I have seen that is wow related that has relatively mature people posting. I am really hoping allot of people decide against playing wow I think this game could use a drop off in population.

This is a little off topic (well way off topic), but in response to Vovin:

It's not just on the forums, its becomming a problem in-game. Ever since Open Beta I've just pretty much turned off the General Channel, but at level 14, there is a Druid quest that requires an herbalist to help.

So I type in the General channel: "/1 Hey there, I'd like to rent an herbalist for about 20 minutes for a druid quest, I'll pay well, if you're intersted send me a whisper."

*The response I get for this adverstisement is this:

"It's A herbalist you fkin ******, why don't you learn how to speak the English language"

*I mean whoa now, c'mon. I didn't even acknowledge this response, and just kept going as I didn't want to start some silly flame war or something. But I was still a little PO'd nonetheless, as I felt I've been nothing but helpful on that channel to get a response like that.

Just thought I'd share, lol.

Sorry some of you folks are having issues with the less mature out there (its one of the reasons I stay away from the PvP servers, since battling selflothing 14 year-olds with 20' swords is not my thing anyway, no offence to those out there who do it right of course)

Getting back on track tho, my situation is that I run two computers with seperate accounts which gives me basically a tag team combo all the time. As a result, I dont have to just think about soloability since I have my own built in group every time I log on.

This means that I am looking for one pet class toon (that can hopefully heal at least a little) and one healer type (that can hopefully fight some as well. I find this works well since then either side can fight and heal the other in a pinch. It becomes too overwhelming to try to run two pet classes at the same time I have found.

Right now I have a Palidan/Priest combo that seems to be working pretty well, and since, appearantly, Priests can charm humanoid pets at lvl 30 (I checked) I might just stick with this combo anyway.

By the way, if any of you have suggestions on duel combos that seem to work well together, I would be interested on those opinions as well.

Thanks,
Josy Wales

really if you think about it 2 warlocks would be great one with the voidwalker as a pet the other with a succubus for high damage. Warlocks have a heal ability too using the healthstones and their drain life as well as other life transferr spells would be good for healing. Since you regen health so fast in wow a main healer is not really a must.

Heh, yeah, I know exatly what you mean. I am actually gald this site has quite a few mature people on it, that actually use logic.

As for this topic... wait only the first two posts were on topic. ^_^ Personally I like Hunter better, but I'm biased. :p

But, go whatever one you like more, this game is pretty balanced so that you can go any class and have a good time with it.

Will people please stop ******** about the infernal and doomgaurd!

For goodness sake the so call "Low End" pets are right now better than the hunter's lone pet by far. At level 60 the IMP is still useful because hes been getting stronger.

The Infernal and Doomgaurd are meant to be a RISKY AND DANGEROUS pet to use. Blizzard has directly stated that Enslave Demon isn't working like they wanted it to for this purpose. IT WILL BE TWEAKED.

Sorry but the Imp still gives a good Stam buff and does good damage with his Firebolt. Voidwalker can still tank well at lvl 60 and its taunts and sacrifice to scale with your level. The Succubus still does good damage with Lash and Seduce still works very well at lvl 60. HOW ARE THESE "LOW END" PETS!

You aren't losing a "High End" pet by the infernal being useless right now. Your losing the chance to use a much more powerful pet that is extremely risky to use. BLIZZARD NEVER MEANT FOR THE INFERNAL AND DOOMGAURD TO BE USED CONSTANTLY LIKE THE OTHER PETS CURRENTLY ARE.

What's up with someone yelling at you for saying "aN herbalist" -- say it out loud. Does herablist start with a vowel *sound*? Mr. Smartypants is the one who needs to get a grip on the English language.

Anyway, if you want to know who is the "best pet class", rather than just the "best class that has a pet", that would be warlock hands down. Hunters only get one type of pet, and while there is some versatility in minor trained abilities and stats based on beast type, that pales in contrast to any two of the warlock's pets...and of course, the warlock has more than two.
