Does anyone know why the servers are down or how long the downtime will last? I wouldnt be as bored or annoyed with this, if blizzard would actually update the server status page to let people know when they are fixing the servers, and when theyre all fixed.

They're down because it's beta. That's what they do in beta. Look for problems, try to fix them, and move on to the next problem. As to when they will be back up - Blizzard has always had a history of not giving time / date, just "when it's done".

As to the server status page - again, it's beta. If it was in release, yes, they should have someone updating this religiously. I for one would just as soon that instead of dedicating that one person to updating server uptime on the website, keep him in there plugging away at the problems they're having (or fetching coffee/doughnuts/pizza/whatever for the people that are actually doing the work). ;)

okay, im glad to hear that this is most likely just because its a beta. Im so used to the FFXI server status notifications, that i feel so confused with when WoW is up or down.

I respectfully disagree.

This is beta. I don't mind if the servers are down, but they're going to be live in a couple of weeks and there is nothing on the logon screen to show if the servers are up, or when they are expected to be up. Last time I tried I got "disconnected from server". That's like having a 7-11 Store and when its closed, either for the night, or being repainted, etc, there isn't even a sign to say "Closed". The customer only finds that the door is locked. No indication of why.

If that happens on live, then there will be chaos when something happens. If its because its beta, why isn't the status thing being tested?

When you log in, there should be a number of responses:
1) Login ok, play game
2) "Logon servers are offline"
- "technical fault" if nobody at Blizz knows about it yet
- "being worked on" if they know and are working on it
- "maintenance - back online in 0:45" if work is being done
3) "World server unavailable"
- if logon ok but list of characters/servers is offline
4) "Server Offline" - "fault / reboot / maintenance"
- if other servers might be ok but this one isn't.

Also I know very well how busy Blizz must be, but they have
more than one person working there and I would have someone
updating these forums (here and at WoW.com when its online)
every ten minutes giving news and ETA. That way, it would
look like they knew what was going on.

Again, its beta. I don't mind that it's down. But when I buy
it, if I can't log in, I will want to know why not.

Take Care,
Cherreia.

Yep, especially with 10 days left to retail. They have their work cut out for them if they can't keep them up and running now.

I know its getting really annoying, I'm worried about retail and General Boards is humoring me as I wait for servers to let me log in.

I'm pretty much of the idea that the server is down for today. Hopefully it will be up and running tomorrow. Now that I have said that, it should start working again. Right?

You can't play mind games with computers. Just ask Dave.

I was just hoping my that my luck would change today. Being the brother of an aggie, I cheer for the team that Texas is playing against. I was happy they looked like they were going to win and they lost. I figured that if every time I wanted something good to happen it wouldn't, then if I figured something bad was going to happen it wouldn't. Pardon me while I take my logic and throw it at the drawing board. ~grin~

Hmm. I guess you weren't in the SWG beta then.

I guess actually that was pretty fun, until the game was still about 6-10 months from being done and they said "Hey, we're releasing next week"

I think the most frustrating thing though about the beta experience has been that the official forums are down more often than the game, making it very difficult to post problems (or more importantly solutions) to the Tech Support forum.

They really should have the forums and the game on separate login servers.

Common people. it's new Mmorpg. OF course there will be problems at the beginning. Everquest 1 was having problems like 6 month after release. Most mmorpg have problems at the beginning. U think its easy to manage them? I think thats expected. Just be patient. It will go away in time.
Oh, and keep in mind that Blizz dont have lots of expirience with mmorpg. Give them time. they are great peeps. SO far i like all of their games. and im sure Wow wil be a blast too.

The difference being Blizzard really seems to test the hell outta the game, and requests your information to make it better. Game Crashes - client pops up and lets you send in the problem so they can work on it before offical release. EQ has been out for close to 6 years and just a few weeks back my toon got stuck in the same graphic glitch *stuck to a tree* that was there 3 years and 4 expansions ago they still haven't fixed.
I'd much rather play a smooth running game that has a few servers down for maintence a week, than a game where they are more concerned about releasing a new expansion than fixing current play issues.
