Best Response ot Character WipeFollow

(Sorry about tpyo in thread name)
This is one of the best response if seen to the character wipe thread on the blizzard forum. This guy is 100% correct.

simple solution sadly inspired by one of the saddest excuses for an MMO out there...

Let OB people play on a test server(s) a la SWG's Test Center. They get the patches ahead of time and test them out, usually for about a week or so depending on the size and effect on the game, and from there they're pushed to retail servers.

OB people get to keep their characters and newbies get the fair ground they want.

On the other hand, contrary to what many of you are saying, leaving OB characters on general servers would actually help they economy. They're the high-level crafters, they'll see the opportunity for sales of low-level items, and they'll take it, helping the newbies develop their characters faster. That said, if there's one thing Blizzard should have learned from this OB, it's that all hell will break loose if everyone starts in the same place at the same time.

No wipe.

I believe him. It would help the economy, because if we all start at level 1, what is there gunna be? Bad, like it is now in the OB, goto the Auction House and thers not that much there. There's not very much trade going on because no one has anything. Theres a few people above 30, but any good items they find or sell to the merchant cause there bound from previous use. As well thats like 2 weeks of play. Some people play like 15 hours a day, and for 2 weeks thats a lot of time. You really think they would like the wasted time.

Well thats my thoughts, I don't think they should wipe

Still can't get on server =P

You realize there's a reason why part NINE of the character wipe thread is going onto page 20 on the Blizzard discussion boards, right? There is no "right" opinion on the matter, only your opinion.

And your (my) opinion is that there should be a total wipe. I could outline why, but I really don't want to turn this into a back-and-forth spamfest. Suffice it to say I support this decision from both economical and fairness perspective.

I actually agree that beta characters should be moved to test server. that way thre could be preestablished characters to test all lvl ranges of anything they add.

how could you put the OB chars on a test server. there are 40 servers for us all right now and over 500k people. you cant make a 500k people test server nore have 40 test servers. they could do a limited ammout of people on the test server but then they may as whell just whipe because 10k out of 500k would get there way

I dunno about test servers or what not...
But my opinion...if its a main server that an average joe is gonna play on when they get the game on the 23rd. Then they shouldn't be like "dude wtf the game came out today and look there are lvl 60 people running around"

Just because you were lucky enough to be in the beta doesn't mean you should have any sort of advantage over others who weren't.
You're not special to have been in the beta, you either got picked in a random lottery or managed to get an open beta key REALLY quickly before they ran out.

As for helping the economy...its a fake economy if you're interfering in it (ala SWG and FFXI) and thats never a good thing. To not have everything start on an even playing field at a total wipe then prices could EASILY get outa hand by the higher levels trying to make an easy profit.

I doubt Blizzard would allow so many people To bypass some of the changes they make to the level -59 content.

I myself wouldn't mind if they simply moved "one" character of an acount users OB/CB account to test server(of their choosing, all others would get wiped if no action taken, thus only taking up space for a few days.) This way the test server isnt *as* crowded as it could be.

Wiping comes with no ultimate problems except for the noob rush of people spawn killing the mobs in the lower zones. Theres no arguments that wiping will cause problems, because everyone will be introduced to the exact same game.

Not wiping brings all the things from beta, good and bad, with it.

one of the problems that i currently see with not doing a full char wipe is that right now, im able to create horde and alliance characters on the same server, which i dont believe will be an option once wow goes live.

it makes sense that you cant "spy" on the opposing faction by making characters on both sides. anyhow, i dont see how they could really justify keeping OB characters past live date...

i support the wipe from the beta -> public stress servers. and I support the wipe from public stress -> retail. you're not given an account to the public stress test to get an advantage in the game - to play it and find out how to get ahead in the game when it goes live. that's just a bonus of getting a chance to play early. the public stress test is to have everyone start at level 1, why? because when it goes live that's the actual player environment that will exist. and they need to know how the servers will respond to that sort of.. 'stress' (=

it sucks that you put a bunch of time into your stress test character, and that you'll have to restart when it goes retail... but your job when you get the key is to report the problems you see and log it. this way the problem can be fixed before you're paying to deal with those same bugs.

complaining in the forums about how fair or unfair it is that the servers have problems or you can't keep your account means you've missed the entire point of why you got the ability to play early in the first place.

I'm personally a fan of a full wipe.

Maybe allow people to choose to keep their chars on a test server. But the retail folks shouldn't have to come in to a game which already has tons of others well ahead of them in the game.

IMO there are more cons than pros to not wiping.
