I was wondering what it was like on EQ since wow and EQ2 was released. It made me wonder after I found out that wow had 500,000 beta testers. I have a feeling that the servers are like a ghostown over in norrath. Anyone able to give us a report?

I played it a few months ago. Many of the zones are deserted, especially the older ones. I heard they were the firt zones and were crowded once long ago...but now like noone goes there, except occasionally to farm stuff...
There was one region that was full of various animals...that was fun...but really kind of lonely.

I was on last night (11th of november, 2004) and PoK was desserted/deserted(whichever it is) on a server where there are usually 200 people in PoK.

As shocked as i was, server wide there were only around 1300 people on, average being 3000+. I dont think EQ2 is a big contributor given how ****** sales of it have been (to my understanding).

I expected this to happen I was just wondering if my theory was right. Most people seem to have burnt out on EQ the boards have been just really dead. Have been for a long time and as far as I know everyone in my guild quit Eq. I was amongst the last to leave.

well EQ is a few years old mmorpg so you'd expect this gonna happen sooner or later. Even if the games aren't WoW and EQ2, say if they are GW and HOPE it'll still steal a lot of players from EQ.

Well, if you wanted too, you could find all of my rant posts on the EQ forums about how the game has gone severely downhill. I wont go into the great, 800 word detail i went in there..

But EQ consists mostly of ******** who spend 15 hours a day grinding XP for AAs or to get to level 70, which a few did within 8 hours of OoW coming out, whats the fun?

All of EQs issues revolve around people who spend WAY too much time in the game, many issues revolve around this.

I hope EQ and EQ2 crash and burn and i hope the the people playing both dont run in exile to WoW and destroy what makes WoW great with their ******* ways.

the Karana server is about the same as usual,

I think it will be 2 years before eq live drops into non existance.

WoW is gonna put a bigger hurt to SOE than EQ2 will to the old EQ.

Most people who play EQ will most likely not go to EQ2 because of the simple fact that a lot of people dislike SOE but still play EQ because of friends and such. Most of the people who jump EQ for EQ2 are the people who bought EQ planning to, or the people who burned their hand off at the stove because they didn't know hot was bad.

What do you mean by that. I would agree that a percentage of the people from EQ2 played EQ for that free month with Evolution. But i disagree that a lot of them are like that.

Yes a lot still play EQ - my guild 130 members didn't lose any members due to WOW beta or EQ2. As to POK being deserted or the bazaar. Before WOW open the bazaar on Morden averaged 400 a night, tonight 400 still there. I don't think there are 500,000 playing WOW - I played yesterday and very few in Tauren area. Wait til after the 23rd of December when people have to decide where to put their money - then see if everyone playing WOW or EQ or EQ2. By the way Halo2 Sold 1.8 million units the first day. So they have a few players also.

well, i left EQ1 for wow. and i know few people that left too either to eq2 or wow.
Old zones are really empty. its even hard to get a group to ldon. Low level chars are mules or alts that were created from nothing-to-do. Many guilds are disbanding, and not only small guilds. Looks bad, but hey I think EQ1 was great game whatever people say, its just have to go now. its too old.

Above that quote I stated that the people who bought it were already planning on buying it, meaning that yes, if they just played for that first 30 days and then went to EQ, they had intentions of buying eq2 and just wanted soem backstory.

Those who played EQ for years on end I doubt would stay with SOE.

Must be a fluke because I have done a who in the mid teen areas on the horde side and there are usually like 40-50 people in the area. It's gotten to a point to where there's nothing to kill because there are so many people.

EQ has been way to deserted for a while now, i tried leveling my 41 chanter a couple months ago, did a / all 35 45 4 players, this was during prime time, a bunch of entire guilds on my server have said they are quitting to switch to WoW, i have a few post 60 chars, and just dont find the constant hack and slash over and over (i play berserker and war 60+ bard is high 50s) all that fun anymore, the only fun i get out of my war is too let mobs chase the casters and see if i can get aggro back b4 they die, or to mess with the cleric and tank on my berserker by taking aggro randomly, the only reason people still play eq (in my belief) is because they have soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much time put into their chars, i know a few people with over 400 days played, and because they spent so much time becoming "uber" that they dont want to start over, leaving the only people still playing the game the very high end gamers, the above mentioned people who just raced to 70, it is just wrong when i fear leveling my war past 65 because i will be ill-equipped to tank any of the places you are supposed to fight in at 70, and more recently they have completely nerfed bards to the point where the serverwide bard channels (both bard:bard and bards:bards) are damn near empty between 5 and 20 people tops, and though i do like my berserker for eq, i dont know why, no one else likes us, i spent 10 hours lfg in bot the other day last week, i cant wait for this game to come out and for me to have money to afford it, and im hoping all my eq friend who quit over the years go to this game too, it looks awesome and i have been reading boards, fourms, screenshots, walkthroughs and guides constantly for the past 3 days or so
