hey everyone....i was just gonna ask some questions. I play ffxi now, have for a while, on and off, and it takes a LOT of time, time I don't have. I can't dedicate much time to video games, they're just my method for unwinding and relaxing...not something I can quit my full time job or school for. I'm concidering switching to WoW this summer, because from what it looks like I might actually get to see some high-end stuff if I do. FFXI is a great game and I'm sure WoW is too, so taken that both are wonderful games(I don't care about your opinions here, it's not what I'm asking and it's a rotting carcus.)... so lets put aside which game is better and assume they are both great. Now, if I start up with WoW will it be more time friendly for me?

yes WoW is very time freindly to the casual gamer. You can always solo. Questing is the main source of xp. Money isnt hard to come by. You even get xp for exploring and finding new areas (and trust me its a blast to explore, so much cool things to see in the world of wow)

Uridus,

I'm in the same boat you are...I don't have 15+ hours a week to devote to a MMORPG...it just doesn't work out like that.

WoW is a very friendly game for the casual player. Hell, when you log at an Inn for the night and rest up you gain an experience bonus for the next time you go out questing...a bonus to being logged off, great stuff :) (1 bubble on your experience bar is included in this for every 8 hours you are logged off)

As Arimer said, you can solo. No waiting 30+ minutes to find a group. Also, if you read the quests, they are all well explained so you can keep going in the game and not have to look up where you need to be constantly. Spawn time on monsters are great, instances for bigger fights keep the wait down as well, plus leveling doesn't take days like it did in FFXI (all you 50+ from FFXI know what I'm talking about).

It will be much more friendly towards your schedule. I think you will like it.

I'm currently playing FFXI, as well, but I have no intention of stopping. That being said there are many times through the week when I just don't have a lot of time to play. It's these times I wish doing something interesting in a game was quick and that's why I'm thinking of picking up WoW at retail and playing it during those times when I don't have a whole day to set aside to gaming. That's what's nice about it.

There are many other aspects of WoW I like that I wish FFXI had, but FFXI is still a great game and I have too many friends there and too much time invested to quit entirely. That, and FFXI is still very fun and addicting to me, so I'll stick with it for quite a while. I'll just play WoW in conjuction with it so I can enjoy both games.

I have been playing FFXI for 1 year since release. I am lvl 70 which I guess is high, but the amount of hours it took me to get ther is just crazy.
were talking 94 days of play time that 94x24=2256 hours I've put into that game.
Sure I hit lvl 70 but at a price to everything else in my life.
So I have a friend at Gamespy and they got me into the beta that started about 2 weeks ago. I have not touche ffxi in that time. The game is so huge and so much easier to level. It is not the grind. It is not forced grouping and even within forced grouping in FFXI you have to have a perfect PT set up to be succeful.
Having the abilty ( in WoW) to explore and lvl solo as well as join a couple friends, and gain exp is great.
No mre Pld. Whm. Rdm Blm. and 2 DD's for me. I like to be able to pt with some different configurations.
Wow is also less of a time sink. You can accomplish a lot in less time. I would get in a PT in FFXI and it would consume my life for 6 hours at a time. Every once in a while " AFK a sec...BRB bathroom"... having to ask to go afk and go to the bathroom or grab food is sad,
WoW is the game for you based on your description of you time and lifestyle.

And my wife loves it because she gets to chill with me more lol.

kingjord, you've gotten lazy. You could have at least given a link.

But seiously, it is a great post (article) geared toward curious people (like myself) and sums it up pretty well. It's non biased and well articulated and formatted.

My personal view? A year ago, I had all the time in the world to play FFXI (And that's exsactly what I did). These days with my job getting hectic and my relationship with my girl gets more serious, I don't have that time. As soon as I hit 51, I realised that unless you're willing to put in endless nights, you wont get anywhere.

One week of WoW.. I'm loving it. The other day, I logged in for only 20 minutes, yet felt that I have accomplished a LOT! There are tons of quest to do (and I'm pretty sure there will be more added in release).
