The WoW General forum at www.worldofwarcraft.com has a 10 page discussion about this topic. In all probablity, they're going to whipe beta chars, which is only fair to those that weren't able to join the OB.

How exactly is it "fair" to people who missed out on OB? You had plenty of time to sign up.

If you were that pumped about it, you should have saw it coming. Bliz clearly stated OB would start 5-7 days after the whole $8 FP stress test sign up. I mean accounts were available for what? Like 3 days?

Anyway, if they were smart, they'd let us keep our characters if they want to avoid serious lag issues. All those people starting out in the same areas? Yikes...

they will do a whipe. they have said they will do a whipe for the longest time and anyone who comes into an OB and thinks they will start there char a fiew weeks early needs a reality check. i think that only 1 game i have ever heard about kept there beta chars and that pissed people off more than its worth. i say whipe them all and i am in the OB and paid for the ST2 so

Another reason I think they'll be wiping the characters is because Closed Beta testers are included in the Open Beta right now. Their characters carried over I think.

So.... they'd be allowing some high level characters in at launch, not just people who started a couple weeks early.

Not to mention the fact that some closed toons that came over to the OB were Dwarf Mages from back when you could actually be a dwarf mage.

Since dwarfs cant be mages they have to wipe at least those toons before release, and it isnt fare to only wipe a select few...so....

Use the OB to test the game and get a good feel for everything. Focus on what you want to do when release comes.

While they have not openly stated as to whether they will whipe I expect one will happen. There is a thread in the WoW General forums where players are discussing back and forth as to their opinion.

Ya but there were people that had no opportunity to enter. Some people can't tie up their computers for that long to download it. Others have dial-up and while they will be able to play without a problem downloading was out of the question.

Personally I agree to a full whipe. First off it helps reset the economy so not as many people can be taken advantage of by those who like to rip others off. Second it helps give an even footing in PvP for those that don't start till retail.

Also they are tweaking the spawns and timers in the early fields to compensate for a large amount of people. Even the higher level characters over on the offical boards are expecting a wipe and have been for a while. Even some of the new players are expecting wipes. Having the knowledge you have ahead of time of where to go and what to do will already assure that you spend little time in the starting fields come release if there is a wipe.

Just my 2 cents.

You could sign up before downloading, and that would secure you a spot, no matter if it took you a week to download it after that...

Anyway this topic has been beat to death. Beta characters are not going to get carried over, it's that simple.

It seems there are so many beta characters now that it would be near impossible to transfer them at release. Everyone has to create a new account with their retail cd-key and then they would have to transfer the characters to that account. In everquest they make you pay money to transfer characters so I vote for wipe.

Wipe them all.

Besides, those of us in OB have some knowledge to begin with.

Create a second character, see how long it takes you to go thru the same areas a 2nd time. It takes half as long.

What this means, when retail comes out, well all the new people are still in the beginning areas, those of us in OB will be moving beyond those areas quickly.

Uhm, no they did NOT say they would do a wipe for the longest time. I swear, I hate when people talk out of their butt.
In the FAQ they say that they haven't made up their mind yet.
And its spelled WIPE...why the hell do you keep typing whipe? Don't they teach you kids how to spell anymore?
