Leveling system is a wee bit too fast. Out leveling Quest is proof.

I love this game so far, and the main reason, is because every session, I always feel like I am progressing in my total character build.

However I do believe the leveling system is a wee bit too fast. I can be in a town and grab 5 quest, and by the time I get to the last 2, they are way too easy, I am just mowing down the mobs and I am doing all of this solo.

I like to solo mind you, or my name wouldn’t be Isolo, however I do want somewhat of a challenge.

I personally thing that Blizz will change this before release, I just hope they don’t go overboard and turn it into a grind, but it does need to slow just a bit.

What are your thoughts?

Well, that is just it. It can be a wee bit too fast or a wee bit of a grind. I think they chose to make it a wee bit easy so that people did not feel they had to grind. There is a huge segment of MMORPG players who cannot drop tons of time in. It is nice to log in and play for an hour or two and feel like I have really accomplished something.

But, I believe that the levelling will slow down at the higher levels and that is as it should be. EQ is the same way really. I can get a toon to 20 in no time in EQ. At the lower levels you can really make progress. I am assuming it is the same with this game. I would imagine that 2 or 3 quests plus the normal kills will not get you, say, level 45 like it can for level 10.

The xp will be cut I'm sure. Hard to test parts of the game that no one is high enough to use Smiley: wink2

There's no such thing as too fast. Leveling sucks. Its the worst part of any MMO. Its the reason people quit MMO. Really, devs should just remove it all together. But the devs should definitely NOT slow it down, if anything they should bump it up a bit for the 20s.

I haven't noticed the leveling rate to be too fast. Infact I leveled a character in FFXI to level 10 quicker than i did in WoW. The big difference in this game though is i have not been concerned with leveling. The quests have kept me busy enough to enjoy the game and most of the time when i do level it is a surprise.

My warrior has reached level 15 now but i have been playing since the stress test that started last week. During that time i have also leveled other races and other jobs too though.

And just like Ihuffman said, its nice to be able to log in and play for an hour during my lunch break at work and actually accomplish something. It might not be getting to a higher level but i can usually complete a quest or some part of one during that time and feel like my time spent on game was worth something.

I have noticed though that at level 15 with my warrior I am not leveling as quick as i did at the beggining of the game. So as I progress it does seem like is slowing down some the higher level I get.

I have been enjoying the solo friendliness of the game so far. The leveling speed and relative ease of quests and mobs starts to change on Darkshore (for alliance) at around level 13-15. I have now abandoned my first quest after dying 4 times (solo and grouped). The mobs are getting tougher and the desire to group to handle anything but a solo pull without adds is getting stronger.

If this trend continues, it would make for a very well balanced game. It draws you in in the beginning with fast progression and very little of the frustration normally associated with slow, solo-unfriendly MMOGS. Then once you know what you are doing, you start tackling harder tasks with others.

One thing that you will find both here (and in EQ2) is that the sheer number of people who are doing any given quest at one time really promotes grouping, and for a common goal. Totally different from say, EQ1, where you get a group together and then have to sit around deciding what mob to camp for the next 3 hours.

I wouldn't complain about it being too easy if I thought there would be a expansion soon. But it take blizzard forever to get stuff out so I think it will be maxxed out long before the first expansion comes so yes I agree the xp is too easy to get right now.

What you have to realize is that leveling isn't supposed to be the game. There's more than just hitting 60. The game is questing, the game is PvP. The game is fiddling with builds to try and find a more effective template. If you're looking at leveling as the content, you're looking in the wrong place. When you look at the game the right way, it is definitely not too quick.

wow, so samatman converted, guess im out of the loop.

Really I don't think the leveling speed is too fast.

Unlike other games I don't even focus on the leveling, I focus on the quests, levels are just a nice lil perk.

Now that I know the game a little better I can speed through the first 6 levels pretty fast, after that it slows down a little, then after about level 12 it slows down a little more, but it never becomes a grind.

i am only lvl 18 so i woulndt know too much. but from what i read as many people said before is that lvliing in WOW isnt the entire game. from what i read there will be a lot post lvl 60 for us to do and getting to lvl 60 is only half the battle. personaly thats fine with me. after lvl 15 the lvling really starts to slow down. but i am yet to kill mobs just for the exp i get all the levels i need from soloing my quests. i came from FFXI and decided that i didnt have or want to spend that much time on games any more. i came to WoW knowing about the lvl speed and personaly i like it. it may not be the perfect game for the power gamer who can play 6-10 hours a day but for a person like me who can only play 1-2 maybe 3 hours at a time its great. i think blizzard has done a good job and i am sure they will take care of us when we hit lvl cap

sneakybastard, what level are you? If you say anything under 15, I'm afraid I will need to dismiss your complaint as not knowing the game yet. I brought my hunter to Southshore a few days ago at level 32 and got maybe 5 quests. I did some of them then went to Desolace and got another 5 quests. I did maybe two and then tried toing back to Southshore when I hit 33. Splitting my time between the two and only working on the quests I'm able to, I'm out of stuff I can reasonably do in either at 35 and am starting to weave in a third zone. (I'm trying to avoid using Stranglethorn, which one could level their entire 30s in.)

I really hope they don't tweak the xp system upon release...that would really **** me off. I've gotten used to the game the way it is now, and I pre-ordered it because of my experiences in stress test and now open beta.

They have specifically said they ARE NOT changing the amount of exp needed to level when they go release.

I find the lvling to fast, and here's why :P For the PVP server's, when the younger players who have hte time to play get to the higher lvl's and get bored.... what's the first thing they are going to do? Ya, come after the newbies, and at say lvl 40, they are going to be turning everyone into a bag of smashed @$$holes. But, I would like to say, I really like how we can go out and kill stuff that is fun at low lvl's. Acctually get to kill harpy's and furborgs at low lvl's instead of rabbits!

The bottom line is that the XP/levelling speed will never be to everyone's liking.

Those people who view the game as a competition and have tons of time (and no job or schoolwork apparently)will prefer a slow XP game because they have the time to grind and camp and do what it takes to make them superior to all of us who actually count this as a fun hobby rather than a way of life.

On the other hand, there are those who do not understand the beauty of an MMORPG and want to play it like an arcade game or a solo campaign and try to 'beat' the game. They want fast Xp. It is all about next level, next level. They miss out on the social and rewarding things like visiting new lands just because, even if they do not offer big XP or loot and, of course, the fun of grouping with friends just to hang out.

Then there is the majority of us. We can drop a few hours here and there...are willing to grind if the reward is good and more importatly if we have the time, and yet want a game we can pop into for an hour or so and feel like we accomplished something. That is the way I play...and most of my friends back in old EQ. I think the XP in this game, while moving fast is not too fast...and it is tapering off as I gain levels, I have noticed. It is getting slower as it climbs.

I will make a statement that is not just related to XP, but all aspects of MMORPGs: They cannot make a game that completely satisfies everyone. Period. Everyone has different goals, values of rewards and reasons for playing. There are people who actually base their self worth in real life on things like how high level their toons are...with that kind of pressure on themselves...they will find a lot of fault with the game. Then there are people who will move on to the next game as soon as it comes out and will not commit anything to the game. Most of us are somewhere in between.

I just laugh at those whiners who seem to think that in a game being played by thousands...that the developers OWE it to them to make it exactly as they want it.

I think the pace is just about right. From my experience you hit the average town and get about 5 quests on average. Then each of those 5 usually have about 1 to 5 progressions. So to exhaust an area you may do 25 quests. Most are geared towards the appropriate level. If you 'outgrow' an area, you can just drop the quests and move on to another area. I don't think the intent is to 'force' you to do every single quest. I really like this. You have the option of completely exhausting an area, or if you level up faster, you can leave some stuff undone.

I have seen very little in the way of if you don't do this quest you will suffer later. In fact for the most part you could just kill stuff for experience and never do a single quest, then move to a harder area. For the most part quest progression are area dependent. So if you skip a whole area you aren't handicapped. This is a great improvement over other MMORPG.

Figure each area gives you 3 to 5 levels worth of experience. However, I can't imagine powerleveling per se. Doing quests is from my experience the best way to level. Many quests are doubled up. So you can get 2 quests that require you kill the same mobs. Example, in the briar boar area, there are 2 quests that require you to kill the exact same mobs. Finishing each quest gives you about 1100 exp each. So you kill 40 pigs solo, get 4000 exp from kills then another 2200 from quests. Not having the quest and just killing would be OK, but for the time to talk to 2 npcs you basically gain an additional 50% exp.

Comparing this system to say EQlive: EQlive quests give an insignificant amount of experience. In fact you almost always are better off (progression and character development wise) to not do quests. Items are the only reason to do quests.

Comparing this system to EQ2: EQ2 you are forced to do some quests, whether you like it or not just to get access to areas or higher level quests. Skip any and you will find yourself going back at level 20 to do level 5 quests to fill in gaps.
