I've been playing FFXI since early this year and have no intention of stopping anytime soon. But, I may consider playing both WoW and FFXI at the same time, therefore I got in on the open beta just to see if I want to buy the retail version.

Didn't have much time to play yesterday (since the download took sooooo long and I had obligations in FFXI), but there were a couple things I noticed and couldn't figure out in about 30 minutes of playing.

I'm going to refer to everything in FFXI terms, I hope someone here knows what I'm talking about. ;)

Can you get a full 360 degree view of your character, like in FFXI? Can you swing the camera around like that? I noticed in running around yesterday that I had a hard time moving the camera to my liking.

Secondly, can you heal like in FFXI to restore HP? If so, how do you? If not, how do you restore HP in the field?

Any other tips for new WoW players? What are some of the first things I should do? Please try to relate them to FFXI if you can, I'll understand them better.

I must say, I'm impressed so far with WoW. It has some thing in just the character creation process that I wish FFXI had. The graphics are a nice change, as well. People just have different tastes, which makes them choose one over the other usually. It's sad to see people get put down on forums like this for liking one game over another when it's all personal preference and opinion.

I'm a FFXI player, but I'm asking for help to try to understand your game better, so please go easy. :)

If you hold down the left or right mouse button and move around, your camera angle will change.

Holding down the left mouse button only while moving gives a 360-degree view of your character, while holding the right mouse button keeps the camera behind your character. HP regenerates automatically in the field, there is no need to heal like in FFXI. I'm not entirely sure if HP regens faster while sitting or not, but if it does, hit the "X" key to sit down.

Some more tips - start yourself a craft ASAP! You'll be amazed with how fast it levels compared to crafting in FFXI. Plus, there are no failures. If you see the recipe in your book, you can synth it, no problem. Crafting is a great way to make money early on, even if you're only selling to NPCs. Any other questions, post 'em... I'm bored on my day off!

Cool, thanks for the help. ^^ I'll have more time today after work to play with it and I'm sure I'll have yet more questions.

As far as macros go, are they set up basically the same way as in FFXI, or is there a big difference? (I didn't really get to look into this, so I'm just asking so I can be prepared for them later when I mess with them.)

Quests - are quests level based, or are they based on something else like fame in FFXI?

I will definately look into starting a craft today, although I don't know much about that in this game, either. >.> Guess I'll be reading up on this site in my spare time today at work.

I'm a Human Rogue, what crafts would be best for that job?

Thanks again. ^^

I haven't actually touched macros myself - the little hotbar at the bottom of the screen has been fine for me. Just type /macrohelp ingame and they have a tutorial on how to set one up.

Quests in the game are level-based, but they have several degrees of difficulty: NPCs with yellow exclamation marks give you quests, NPCs with silver exclamation marks will give you quests once you get a bit higher in level. Once you recieve a quest, it is marked in your quest log (L key on the keyboard) in either grey, green, yellow, or orange text. These correspond to increasing difficulty. You can probably handle yellow quests on your own, but you'll need a party for orange quests. Also, there may be Elite monster quests (same as NMs in FFXI) which are also marked.

As far as a good craft for a Rogue, I would go with leathercrafting, since to my knowledge use of mail armor is limited to the warrior/paladin classes. In order to make the most of your leathercraft, also take up skinning. Buy a skinning knife and have at it with any animal you kill. To train in leathercraft and skinning, you'll need to speak with the trainers in Goldshire. They are the northeast building in the town.
Good luck.

On the 360-deg…..is there a way to do this on the keyboard?….I was scrolling through the “key binding”, but I saw nothing for camera rotation….but I might had missed something.

Last night I was able to log-on for the first time, and I did what ever beginner should do….spend the first few hours exploring the menus, keyboards, and misc. options. I would like to add something I learned about macros last night that I believe will be of some use to FFXI players that are making the jump to WoW.

How to set-up Macro’s: (or rather NOT setting them-up)
It was my impression that macro’s are not as necessary as they are in FFXI. Go to the keyboard set-up menu (press Esc.), and there you can scroll down to see what keys are bound to what actions (or a better way to explain: bound to what target that you would want to select) It seems that Blizzard has done all the leg work in this department. For Example….go to your spell book, and drag what ever action you want to the bar located at the bottom of the screen. That will bind it to the corresponding number key on your keyboard. For my heal spell I simple hit “Alt-1” and that will heal me….and so on and so on.

Please correct if I have something wrong, or if you have a better way to do this.

Hehe, you don't need to hit ALT - if you see the spell at the bottom of the screen, then you just hit the number on the keyboard! You're DEFINITELY a FFXI player ^_^

hehe...yeah, I've been in FFXI for sometime now.

But what I was referring to is by hitting "Alt-1"...its selects my character. The equivalent of FFIX macro /ma "Cure" <me>

Bump.....wondering if anyone had the answer to my question. Is there anyway to do the 360-deg camera rotation using the keyboard? Or is the mouse our only option?

Another question, if I may. I'm a Human Rogue and was wondering how you throw weapons. I notice I have the ability and when I activate it I get in a position where it looks like I'm going to throw something at my target, but how do I actually throw it?

Merci. ^^

To throw you have to have a throwing weapon(Throwing knives) equipped, and you can't be right next to them, its good to start a fight off with or pull with.
