Id say you were the same, but that would be lame too.
Crafting in WoW is actually a very good thing. Its easy, its profitable, and its "fun"(better than other mmos skill system shall we say.
Mining/blacksmithing would be your best bet for your character. cloth and leatherskills really wouldnt help you much, but if you went herb/alch then you'd be able to craft your own potions that would enhance your abilities/heal you. or you could go enchanting if you have a lot of money to spare so you could get all your nifty enchantments on your items. You can also go mining/engineering for little trinkets like bombs and squirels and such.
Really you've taken the most practical and probably more usefull abilities to enhance your character, but remember, anyone can get something out of some tradeskill, although clothcrafting and leather crafting for a heavy class really would limit the usefulness out of the skill, but it would still be usefull(like leather would make you able to add armor to equip and such.)
