A little new to the beta "scene"...Follow

Hello everyone! First time poster in the WoW portion of the site. Hopefully you all don't tell me to pack my things and scram.

Anywho, I'm really considering switching from FFXI to Wow (I've been a Blizzard fan since forever) and I'm extremely interested in participating in the open beta, which as we know is set to start hopefully sometime today.

So, my question is how does the open beta process, or any beta process for that matter, work?

I'd imagine it would be something like this...

a) Blizzard announces open-beta, and you are able to fill out an application. Apps are first-come first-serve.

b) You get a return email with your authentication key, allowing you to set up an account.

c) You download the client and install.

d) You log in and create your character and start playing.

Now... is there any way that this could all happen in one day? I'm extremely anxious to try this game out before I make my final decision in leaving FFXI.

I'd imagine it'd take some time for Blizzard to go over the applications and whatnot... but... well, that's my question.

Sorry if this sounds a little noobish, and feel free to flame me, but FFXI was my first MMO besides D2 (if you can count that) so I'm still a little green to the scene. Any answers or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone. ^^

Take your things and scram!!!!!

I'm joking. ~grin~ I have no idea. There is a link to get the open beta on this forum, but I'm not sure where it is. You can download it and then once the beta signups starts you can sign up and hopefully start up.

Pretty much what he said. I think just download the game, and then sign up once the open beta starts to play.

Generally all of these things will happen during the same day. Unfortunately Fileplanet (who was in control of the emails for the stress test) mucked up big time, but people were eventually playing the same day as the opened up the stress test.

The hardest part will be downloading the client if you haven't already. There will be a 19 meg patch that you have to get through the blizzard downloader, but it shouldn't take you but 10-20 minutes if you're on a decent internet connection. The nicest thing about the client is that it will be the same one that you can use for retail, so hopefully there will not be as huge a patch for people who have the beta client already installed.

Hey Merc, welcome to the Dark Side.

Once you play WoW you will never go back to FFXI again.

I posted my goodbyes in my FFXI server forum, send out messages to my friends through PlayOnline and cancelled my content IDs.

Six minutes left on my download. Hehe. Can't wait to log in and get started. Got the Mountain Dew and the junk food ready... it's going to be a long night.

Unzipping the zip file now! Woot.

I decided on being a Night Elf Hunter, also. Smiley: laugh I'll just have to sit through the installation and I'll be ready to go.

Might drive to the store and pick up something better to drink, though. Haha.

That's why you are one, and I'm going to be one. Because we rock. Smiley: laugh

I just thought of something... I might not even be able to create an account until the WoW sites come back up.

/reading the game manual acrobat reader file

Hitting the "create an account" button redirects me to my desktop and to the setup page on one of the Blizzard sites.

Wuh oh. Smiley: cry

EDIT: Eye are a gewd speeler. (I can't even misspell words correctly.)

Test 13 was down so I went on another one, Test 21 and created a Dwarf Hunter..

I don't know which to do now..

Both are fun, and I like the bows a tad more then the guns, but I love the dwarf scenary. The snow covered mountains are great.

sigh.. I don't know what to do.

Yeah test 13 has been a pain in the *** tonight.

Personally, as far as classes go, I'm trying to play a class that I DON'T plan on playing at release. There will certainly be a character wipe, and I don't want to get sick of the class I'm playing now. So I got a human warrior going now, level 11, but at release my main will be a Night Elf rogue. I tried it for a couple levels just to make sure it was fun, and it was.

Happy hunting, all you new beta people!
