well that's what it said on the Blizzard Newsletter I got.

Quote:
By November 8th, the fog of war will be lifted and Blizzard will invite thousands of North American gamers to take a free tour of the epic World of Warcraft. This will be the final stage of testing for the massive online world before it ships to stores in the U.S. and Canada for a November 23, 2004 Street Date.

Willing adventurers can download the World of Warcraft Open Beta by visiting https://signup.worldofwarcraft.com. The official start date of the Open Beta will be announced on www.worldofwarcraft.com, so stay tuned for additional information.

Players who want to get an early jump on the action can sign up for the World of Warcraft Final Stress Test which began on November 1st. Final Stress Test players will be able to carry over their characters into the Free Open Beta. There are limited spaces available for the Final Stress Test and you must be a FilePlanet member to participate. For more information on how to sign up for the World of Warcraft Final Stress Test, or on how to become a FilePlanet member, click www.fileplanet.com.

Spaces for both the Final Stress Test and the Free Open Beta will be given out on a first come, first served basis. So sign up early, and we hope to see you in Azeroth...

and that was the rest of the news from Blizzard. I'm sure people expected this already, but just to give everyone a heads up.

What authentication key are they asking for in the sign-up process? Is the open beta only open to people who have a original warcraft CD key?

No, you do not need a WC3 key in order to participate. You must be thinking of the WoW Beta Fourms, which require a Diablo 2 or WarCraft 3 key to post. :) You'll get the only "Key" You need from Blizzard after you sign up for the Open Beta.

Alright, its the 8th. I'm still waiting. Still waiting. Still bloody waiting. I'M WAITING HERE! ~grin~ Just joking. I'm going nuts. I have woken up every three hours to check the sight to join. My luck when I go somewhere today they will open it and it will close while I'm gone. LOL.

I believe that most of the people who work on the WoW community site are on the West Coast, and it's still only 7:30am as of right now, unfortunately you may be waiting until noonish just to sign up for the game. :( I need to sign up myself and my girlfriend while she's at work and still install the game on her computer... bleh.

So, central has the fun of waiting forever. GREAT! All they had to do was set it up to start at 0001 hrs and I would have been happy. I still had Jedi Trial to read.

It does seem that the beta message boards are currently broken, although there are random new posts here and there, but not even close to what the usual traffic is. I can't even log into my CB account on there, not even on the main wow site.

Seems things like this happen when they're trying to push out an update, or in the wake of a "bad" update. People whine, complain, flood the beta boards, and in turn, they break. Hopefully Blizz wakes up soon, as I know they were up quite late last night from the new patch and the people calling for the heads of the Blizz dev team after some of these decisions.

It's best not to listen to the whiney community that is the WoW beta forums. I've followed patches as far back as July and it's the same thing over and over again. First they say that the game, after the new patch, has destroyed the game and they will not buy it. They continue to play and when a new patch appears, the game is yet again broken and that Blizzard shold roll back to the previous patch. Keep in mind, it's the patch that "ruined" the game but wants it back because that was when the game was "fun"

If you are confused, don't worry about it. Just remember testers will blow whatever changes out of proportion and make it seem like the undoing of the game itself....until next patch....

Also keep in mind the patch was released yesterday. It's not even 24 hours yet and they whine. *sigh*

Rather odd that it hasn't started yet... I have a friend wanting to play with me, so I'm a bit antsy.

However, there was blue-text on the offical WoW forums saying it will be today, he just isn't sure of when... let's hope he's right. :)

Well considering you probably have 95% of the people testing who are of the non-thinking american public. People who wouldn't know their right from their left without instructions and two big red arrows with left and right on each of them pointing at the correct arms. The other 5% who actually think who are giving good information to blizzard. I really feel sorry for software dev's at times. ~grin~
