Is there a nice databse of weapons and where you find them?Follow
here, they just tells you the stats on most weapons, and dont tell where to get them on most items
Items in WoW are, generally speaking, random world drops, meaning they cannot be camped. Some sites have listings of what mobs items have dropped off in the past, but you could kill 100's of the same mob and not get the item. There are, however, some items which regularly drop off of bosses - you can find more detailed information on them at www.thottbot.com

Yes, Thottbot is definately THE resource for all things WoW. I use it all the time.
I would recommend just continue to do your quests. Some will give you a nice item or some money and you will probably pick up so green items along the way that you can sell in the auction house if you can't use it. Then you can buy green items off other people.
The other option is to make your own equipment. Blacksmiths can makes some weapons and also mail armor.
