Boy was I wrong. I myself have recently turned into a hardcore gamer(because of WoW of course) in which I devote pretty much all my free time to playing =P. Now in that time ive created quite a few characters and leveled them and I just have to say that the leveling speed is great.

Of course it got faster with each new character I created because I learned more and more about the game, but its just amazing how I could spend an entire day on a character and not even be passed level ten. This of course is probably because of my own pace and doing everything possible, but it doesnt even feal like I even know when I'm leveling.

Not to mention that after you DO get to the point where you cant quest and level up in an area, it seemlessly has you go to a new area.

This doesnt even include some hidden areas and caves with monsters that you can still kill for some fun and money in the first area.

I am utterly impressed(and addicted...now wheres that cathider(sp?) when you need it)

that sounds like worth 49$ and 12,99$ per month :P

At level 40+ quests start to become very group oriented. There are some you can do solo, but most will be for groups. It's not so obvious where to go next as you get higher either. You have to explore sometimes to find an area appropriate for your level.

So, its not life FF11 where if you want to level up you need a group? There is nothing worse than spending 10 hours in Qufim looking for a group and never finding one. Well, the only good thing about it is that I get caught up on my reading. I can't wait for the open beta. I'm am definetly going to have to keep an eye on this game.

Actually i prefer group play alot more than solo. It is just more fun to me. FFXI will be a very fun game, if they make groups easier to get, and solve the economy problem. But sadly, i dont see SE trying hard to solve the problems.

Group play is great if you can find a group. Its just all that waiting just to get a group. For instance I had setup a 10 hour game session on a Saturday. I sat there for 8 of it reading. Joined a group at hour 8 and played for 45 minutes when the program decided to crash. After an hour of running Spybot, Ad-Aware, AVG Virus, and Stinger. I had about 15 minutes left. A nice whole day of gaming ruined. Plus it seems to happen every saturday. So, getting to a game that will let me level up effectively without a group (that and I am interested in the Hunter class, so that might help some) is definetly going to catch my attention.

I don't know what people were talking about when they said leveling in WoW was too fast. It seems just right to me.

My Hunter is at lvl 12 and the speed seems great. The quests lead me to areas that I get experience in, where mobs are my level. It's a natural progression.

But it's not fast. Honestly, I haven't seen anything that makes it faster then anyother game I've ever played.

It just seems faster then FFXI because you don't have to spend half your time looking for a group.

The fact that there is a nice variation of things to do to level. Quests and killing, and the rest bonus all kinda help. I remember spending plenty of time in the gnoll place in EQ, cant remember the name now its in the same zone as that fisherman human who dropped a rare item lol, i camped him a bit too. There was quest where you could turn in fangs but that was the only good exp quest i can remember doing, it was actually better exp then the gnolls themselves but it seems WoW has a nice batch of quests to do and you dont have to search to find the "perfect" monster each level like FF11/ Lineage 2 (especially lineage 2 lol). I remember searching for a mob that i could kill in exactly 4 hits or whatever, best exp/mp - was a royal pain the *** =) - also did wishing potion quest 20+ times ( not exaggerating)

Are some of the experience quests repeatable? That would make things alot easier. ~grin~ While I'm at it, how is cash handled? As far as monster drops, quests, etc?

You didn't get far enough in FFXI to learn a thing about the pain of finding groups.

FFXI has it's ups and it's downs. There is nothing better than a good FFXI group, and there is nothing worse than a bad group.

I am loving WoW so far because I love the independence. I'm only L15, but there seem to be so many things that I can do to keep busy, and it rarely ever feels like a grind.

After about a week, I'm L15, have 105 Skinning skill, 70 Leathercrafting skill, 2 Gold pieces, all my skills, a loyal pet, etc. etc. All of these things took some working at, but I found that I was able to work on them more than one at a time (I.e. If I was killing skinnable pets to build skinning, I was also getting decent exp off it, as well as other drops that were sold for money, and the leather I skinned I used to level leathercrafting).

You don't have to work as hard for things in WoW as you do in FFXI. That is for certain. Which is better in terms of long-term playability and overall enjoyability? Only time will tell...

I'm still on the fence. (As you can see from my sig, I've spent a lot of time on FFXI).

Qwestionator, the zone was blackburrow, probably EQ's most famous newbie zone and where my first mmo exp was gleamed, and the chap in qeynos hills you killed I think was named Hagar, and he dropped the fishbone earring(unlimited water breathing)

Ah, memories=)

I wish I could have gotten my rdm that level. I got him to 28, but got so frustrated with Kazham that I decided to take another month off. Of course, if I didn't get lost everytime I joined a group and then turn into a gob magnet every few minutes. Which would end up killing me. Games are supposed to be fun, not tedious. Thats one of the reasons I didn't like SW Galaxies, or the Everquest series. Its another reason I left the game for good this time.

Qufim and Kazham almost becomes a dream compared to later parts of that game. Honestly I don't mind the slow leveling speed of any game, it's just the availabilty of gaining XP. People should be able to log on for an hour and gain some XP or accomplish something without having to hunt for a group, and in FFXI's case, a perfect group. With that game it's not enough to have 10 hours a week to play, but you pretty much need 5 of those hours to be back to back with any hope of getting anything done.

I'm fortunate enough to have a good relaxed static group and a good linkshell so I'm able to enjoy the game still. But if that static breaks up then I'm out.

Its funny how many of my in-game friends from FFXI deride WoW, saying things like its too easy, its just Diablo online, you level too fast.. etc. I really think there is a lot of bitterness towards WoW from the people who have 80+ days of their lives in FFXI. Its hard to acknowledge that something else could be actually fun to play...

I agree when you have a great party in FFXI, the hours melt away... But I am level 67 white mage, and even I wait for parties at that level, and find other things to do that keep me interested.

I like the world in WoW, its so colorful, and the way there are not really zones so much, makes it seem even more real. There isn't the long load time at some arbitrary border. Not sure how they did it, but it feels a lot more natural as you move through the world. Also, if you have not ridden on one of the flying mounts, you just have to do that. Compare it to the Airships in FFXI. In FFXI, you are maybe a thousand feet or more above the world and can distinguish only really big features like the Crags. But in WoW, you are flying at tree top level, and you can see all the places you just walked on. Its breath taking and very involving. It seems like we have so much more freedom to roam the land than any other mmorpg. You can jump, you can swim. There always seems to be something else just around the corner, and I do feel involved in the story line... I am a level 12 warlock in the Undead area... its very creepy and cool, especially appropriate with Halloween just passed....

I say try it out, and see if its too easy for you, or just fun... i like the fun factor, i think they got it right.

My concern is the social aspect...grouping.

I love to group, but I feel a game has to have both solo and group capability. If I need a group to even be able to play at higher levels then it will not be good. I do not see that being the case with WoW. I understand some quests and mobs requiring groups, but there should be some solo fun too. When I want to play for an hour, I do not want to find a group, travel, fight my way in only to have to elave the group and log. WoW seems like it will balance...i hope so.

I quit EQ for a short time and went to DOAC. It was very cool the first couple of days. I soloed my way to higher levels and had fun. After a while I wanted to group...but there were few groups. People did not group...hardly even spoke in game. I did group a few times and it seemed like some people would only group until they completed what they were after then they disbanded without even a thank you and left. So I quit and went back to EQ. (Maybe DOAC changed over time, but that was my experience)

The strength of EQ is the community. Social interaction is great and most people learn to group and do so right from the start. WoW so far is a much better game than EQ(1) and it appears that it will be more fun than EQ2...but for it to really be loved, it will need to develope that sense of community. No way to tell until we get to retail though...hard to make a bunch of friends in game and have the characters disappear after beta is done.

Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, its important when you only have a little time to play that you don't go after a group. You can do what you need to do on your own. When you have more time to play, like when I set aside my 10 hour saturday gaming days. I am happy to find a group and join them for a little more fun. WoW seems to allow the choice of either. Once again it looks like Blizzard comes away with another amazing game. Can't wait for Ghost to come to the PS2.

I've always thought the best game was where you solo for training/experience and group for fun.

Warchief makes a good point. If a game forced grouping for special events like an instance raid or quest, and let the player train his abilities on his own it would make for a cool game. At least in my opinion.

I was in the Closed Stress Test over a month ago, and people were damn near about to hit the level cap after only 10 days of solid powerleveling. I don't know how they did it, but they were somewhere in their upper 50s, out of level 60 max. Blizzard ran this contest where the highest leveled player from each class on each server got into the closed beta, and people made levels like crazy. I haven't played in about 6 weeks, so I don't know if they've severely nerfed the amount of xp you can earn, but I know that it was possible for people to level EXTREMELY fast if they focused on it. Talking about hitting the new level cap only a few weeks after retail comes out, here.. Hopefully, they're going to make this game last longer than that.
