I got my friend into the game, just signed up at FP, got his key. Says he saw on some website that hunters can get pets right away.

Is this true? I'm a level 9 hunter and I thought I had to wait till level 10.

Also, anyone know how I cant train to use a sword?

Thanks,

Isolo

Lvl 10 get the ability to tame pets.

I assume you'd find a swords trainer to teach you swords.

At L10, go to your trainer and learn all of the available Beast Traits...

I have a L10 pet tiger named Fangster, and he's awesome!

Also - you need to feed your pet so keep all the jerky you find and buy more if you're short. Keeping your pet happy maximizes it's damage output.

Oh - and one other cool thing - pets level too! Fangster was L9 when I Tamed him and now he's L10!

I thought that too, but I found a "Weapons" Trainer, and he just offered to train me Daggers, and axes or something, but Swords were not in the list. They were not even the NON AVAIL list, so this is why I am confused as to what to do.

Not just jerky, kingjord. As I mentioned in the hunter forum, different types of pets like different types of food. I doubt that jerky will do much for a spider, for example. Think of it as a bonding experience between you and your pet: you shove animal caracasses at it until you find something that makes it really happy.

Different weapon trainers train different weapons. You might not even find a sword trainer in your starting area. (Dumb, I know.)

I'm willing to bet you have to go to Ironforge to find an axe trainer, but that's an unresearched response.

So, the pet levels up with you? Cool. Gives you a good reason to keep your pet alive through the game. I can't wait to play this class. With luck the open beta sign up will start tomorrow at 0001 hrs on Monday morning so I can sign up. ~grin~ Of course I may end up playing most of the night, rather than sleeping.

You know, I get more satisfaction when my pet (Claw, a lvl 11 Nightsaber) levels then when I level.

Odd isn't it?
