I feel like a kid in a candy shop!

I downloaded WoW while I slept last night and woke up early this morning to play! Within an hour, I was online.

I chose to be a Dark Elf Hunter. Seems like fun - powerful with a bow, decent with a dagger, and I dodge half of the attacks against mobs my level. I'm not sure if Hunters are the only ones who get Auto-regen/refresh, but I never have to rest because by the time I lock onto my next prey, my HP is usually full.

I played for about 3 hours, and I was giddy with excitement the whole time. I enjoyed the quests very much. You get an objective (I.e. kill 8 of critter x) and for killing them, you get experience and drops (which can be sold to NPC vendors), and you get more EXP and some decent items when you finish the quest. The quest-givers tell you ahead of time what you get for finishing a quest, and you can choose between a few items and get money on top of that.

I found that I got enough money from taking drops from my kills to upgrade my skills and buy arrows. I have actually been able to upgrade just about all of my gear with drops and items I've gotten for completing quests! (That sure beats starting off in FFXI, where you basically can not wear anything that you find).

So far, I'm very impressed.

Also, I was afraid that I'd be surrounded by the L337 SpEkE G33kZ from Diablo II, but the people on my server were actually very nice. I asked a few questions on the General Channel and more experienced players quickly helped me out with answers.

Also, I had one experience with a troll (not an actual troll, but one of those losers we all love). He was 3 levels higher than me and started following me around. He kept challenging me to duels. I kept declining. It was funny though. Good for a laugh... And his name was of all things "Primeevil" LoL. I think he thought he could *steal* my kills by killing them after I'd hit them first - I don't think he realized that only the first person to hit a mob gets exp and drops... Anyway, it was fun even with a troll trying to bug me.

I don't know how far I have to progress before Horde vs. Alliance PvP comes into play (I'm on a PvP server by choice), but I'm excited to party up some day and go on raids.

I hear that at level 10, Hunters can start taming beasts. Now THAT sounds like fun! I can send a beast after a mob and stand at a distance and bombard it with arrows! WooT! (oh, and by the way arrows in this game don't cost so much that you have to "farm" for three days to have enough arrows for three hours of fighting...)

I'm L6 now, and I think I'm going to finish up the quests that I'm working on and head to Darnassus.

If you're thinking of giving this game a try - do it! It's worth paying the $7.90 for a month's membership to Fileplanet. I think when Open Beta starts you won't even have to pay that $7.90

It is not yet known whether beta characters will be rolled over to retail. However, I'm greatful for this chance to try it out for free, and it's starting to scare me - I might just have to drop FFXI and come join in the fun...

LMAO Seoman ... Nice to see you here...

I kinda feel like a traitor for liking it so much... I mean I love FFXI - but for some reason all I ever do there is stand around in Jeuno... Nothing to do, and no time to level my main (you know, those 5+ hour blocks of time).

I'm on Test Server #2 - it's a PvP server. Wanna come join me there??? I'll ... erm... powerlevel you >.<

Work ... must ... end ... here ... too ... except sadly I just got here an hour ago and have 5 hours left :/

Nice to see you here, Kingjord. You're a good FFXI player, as well as overly competant (from what I have seen on your posts anyway), so it's nice to see you here! Anyway!!

Don't feel like a traitor to FFXI. Fun is never a bad thing. If you play it through ST and OB and you still like it, who knows? But for now, have fun with WoW. :)

Just hope the trolls in the FFXI forums get scent of this betrayal of fun, King. They could stalk and karma nuke ya for months to come.

I have so many people after my karma it's not funny...

The problem with FFXI is that you have to rely on other people. Some people enjoy doing their best to benefit the party, and some people just want to be UB3R 1337 Ro><><orZ and be an RDM/NIN cause they're better than j00. I'm the sucker who argues with them, and then my karma goes /goodbye.

This game seems a lot more open to individual play and teaming up with your friends (even if they're not within one level of you). It's gonna be great because I won't have to be slowed down by any more RDM/WARs who don't rest becaues they're saving TP :/

Wow guys... I snuck a little during my coffee break here at the office!! O_O

WHOOOOOO I'm a night elf hunter on Test 6! Coming from FFXI, this is incredible. I mean, I'm walking around and things are actually happening! I gained a level in five minutes!

Let's all dance! ^_^ (although I dance alot like Micheal Jackson O_o;) My name's Thasame! Anyone on that server? ^_^

Today was my first foray into crafting. As a human rogue, upon reaching the Goldshire, I signed up for skinning & leatherwork (as well as first aid, cooking, and fishing). I bought my skinning knife and began to skin, craft away. It helps that just about everything in this forest is skinnable. It's so gratifying to know that the items I crafted were useful right away. I used the armor packs to upgrade the glove I received from the Princess quest and to upgrade the chest armor and bracers that I crafted myself.

I've also used cooking and first aid to craft +HP regen items, but they really don't seem necessary at this level (7-9).

So far, I'm liking the crafting system. It skills up quickly (seems like every successful attempt is 1 point up), is cheap to start (all materials used are pretty much gained from killing monsters), and useful right away. In contrast to FFXI, this streamlined crafting was such a breath of fresh air.

Just one small correction, King ^^ Change "Dark Elf" to "Night Elf" and we should be all set. You'll find out the importance why simply because of the Blood elves and High Elves (whatever is left of them) play an important role in the overall story. No Drak elves have been mentioned yet so lets us dream...Then again thanks to lore there's no snowball chance in hell of course. *shrugs*

Good review, btw! Thats a rate up in my book. Now welcome to the dark side...

I am happy to potentially leave the "job" that is Final Fantasy 11. Its nice to actually be able to experiment and not be burned at the stake. I don't have to group to exp and I can have fun while learning the story at the same time! What a concept!! Fun in a MMORPG. I really can't see myself going back to my second job er... FFXI again.

I'm on the east coast PVP. Thought I would give a try after being PvE for close beta. I played night elf hunter to level 43. They are a good solo class, but not the greatest group class. It's pretty easy to take out casters with them, but a little more difficult to take out melees.

The quest system is alot more fun. I'm undead, and if your undead you have to do the quest where you kill the main guy(forget his name) and his 2 bodyguards. Extremely hard solo(better have some tricks up your sleeves, or sleeping dust and some potions) but can be done. Loot is great and very very fun fight.

Also I like helping the tradeskill npc's think of new ways to terrorize their pow's rofl. And doing tradeskills is actually fun again, yay!

Hey there Seoman! I was wondering where you went.

I am DL the stress test right now. I'm still playing FFXI but the grind is starting to hit my hard. I haven't leveled my RDM since the monk in my last party thought he had to tell me how to do my job before we even started fighting. /sigh

So i'm gonna try this out, maybe I will get on your server. (can we pick the server?)

Oh, and hey kingjord, I liked your posts on the RDM forums.. to bad they all turn to flame fests. Just reading the RDM forums will get you rated down.

See in game!

Skinning would be even better if I was able to skin the Dwarves I had to kill for the Dwarf Digging quest.
