Does anyone know if you'll be able to switch from one type of server to the other or will you be locked into your server once you choose it?

I doubt you'll be able to change your server at all, but to be honest, I've never heard this question come up before. PvP vice PvE could have some ramifications, so I'm going to wager that even if server-switching is generally allowed, the answer to your question would still be no.

Ahhh, that's too bad. I've got some friends who will probably want to play on the PvP server. I'm a PvE kinda person so I won't be playing on PvP. I'd like to do PvP only occasionally. I guess I won't be able to play with my friends then unless they decide to play on PvE.

Just play on the PvP server - playing with friends is way more fun. And besides PvE gets boring later once you max out a few chars - believe me, go PvP =).

Does he mean locked into as in permanently once you click on it, or does he mean switching between with characters? It is normal practice to allow you to switch servers, but not characters.

Good point! I wouldn't mind playing on the PvP server once in a while even if it meant creating a new character. However, the majority of my play time and my main characters would be on the PvE server.

You can have 8 characters. They dont' all need to be on the same server. In fact, Blizzard is setting it up so they want you to play multiple servers.

You can't have Horde and Alliance characters on the same server (unless this has changed).

So chances are people are going to play multiple servers anyways.

So all you have to do is create 1 character on PvE and another on PvP.

Unlike what someone said above, I actually find PvP very boring after awhile. The attitudes of some PvPers gets annoying, and ruins the experience.

I to think im more PvE than PvP, but there sumthing funny when u unload on a person 4+ lvls higher then you and totaly destroy him/her. For OB me an dmy guild r doing PvP, and since im playing a hunter and as of now ppl think they suck at PvP, i will find a way to prove them wrong. I always like to prove people wrong in games like this, cuz most likely if u use th eabilites give, theres always a way to **** another player off that much.

You can have Horde and Alliance on the same server if it's a PvE server. PvP servers you must choose a faction for each server you want to play.

Kerik, I'm not so sure about that. The motivation behind limiting you to one faction is so there wouldn't be spies checking out battle plans on what the other side is up to by listening to their strategy. This has happened considerably even on the PvE server in beta. While you could two-box to accomplish this, not everyone has that resource.

I've been thinking of playing on the PvP, but I hate when I'm trying to level or get somewhere and a group comes along and attacks me. Then I have a nice corpse run to make. It just ends up being a waste of time. I'm not sure if the price you pay along the way to high levels is worth it.

I *personally* feel there's no need to play on a PvP server, even if you kinda like to PvP. There are three kinds of people that should play on a PvP server:

1) The loser scum gankers that want to grief people. (This was a given.)
2) The people that get a thrill out of being attacked by opponents that have intelligence that isn't artificial.
3) The people that think it creates a lapse in continuity if they, as a troll, see a dwarf in their lands and can't do anything to stop him.

Unless you definitely feel you are one of those three types, I would just play on the PvE, and "consent" to PvP when you feel like it. It isn't completely fair to call them carebear servers.

Well the fact is that if you "consent" to PvP, its going to take you a lot longer to find willing oponents than on a PvP server.

Gankings no big problem, dont see why anyone complains about it when the preventional method isnt even in game yet.

If you "kinda" like PvP, I dont see a reason to play on a PvE server, just means your going to waste more time waiting to get a small amount of PvP.

There will be battlegrounds implemented where (real people) horde vs allaince can fight eachother. Maybe it wont get you your PvP fix or maybe it will.

VampyreKnight is exactly right people over exxagerate on the problems of ganking. I'd like to add that if the death penalty in this game is too harsh for you your place is definately in PvE because there will be alot of it. I come from playing EQ pvp so it's much harsher than WoWs joke penalty.

As for the server question, The reason why there isn't server jumping is that someone might get his char to 60 in PvE and then jump to the PvP server for more fun. This would be unfair for people who started fresh from 1 to 60 in PvP.

I don't have a problem with the death penalty, but I do have a problem walking to my corpse over and over again wasting time. Some places this might not even be an issue, but there are some areas where the graveyards are far away. I played EQ1 since it came out, but never in PvP and I do think the exp penalty in that game takes away from the fun PvP or no. People asking for an exp penalty are saying please torture me because I like it.

If your walking to your corpse over and over again theres something wrong.

I recall playing Ultima Online when it first came out and getting ganked left and right by people who were always at an advantage. Usually the people were in groups and would take all your equipment (talk about a penalty). I just find there are few people on PvP that actually will challenge you to a fight. There are more that will ambush you and many times in large numbers. Just my experiences with PvP and what turned me off to this point.

Yes, but ultima online and WoW are two different games ^_~. Seriously if you get ganked once its not a very long run to your corpse, and then you can simply just scamper off to a different area watching out for the guy.

Unless you are in contested territory and the such, than you wont encounter much resistance accept for a rare few gankers who can be quelled by a few higher levels that will be called out if they become a large problem.
