So what does this mean? Is this another name for Open Beta? Or are they gonna have to take applicationa for stress test, let people play it, close servers, and then take applications for Open Beta? I guess what I'm asking is: does this mean we're closer to Open Beta (and Retail, which is what I'm interested in) or does this indicate that we're still a while away?

I've never been interested in a game enough to take notice of it's testing cycles, so I'm not familiar with how they progress.

I believe this is a step in getting ready for the open beta. They are most likely introducing the patch everyone has been waiting for and this code is probably considered final for burning if it passes the stress test.

If the code doesn't stand up to the stress test, then they will have to optimize it so it does. Once they feel it is ready they will open the stress test and submit this code to be burned for retail release.

While we are playing open beta, they will be burning and boxing the retail packages for the release date(which is starting to look very positive for Nov. 22(despite Blizzard disavowing the date as not from them(looked like heads were gonna roll))).

Chances are strong though that another patch will need to be downloaded once we install our CDs/DVDs.

there wont be another signup, the CB testers r going to do it, or else there accont would be closed, instead of just left open like they are. Not sure if im right but it makes logical sense, and thats always a good thing.

What a silly thought, of course there will be a sign-up, but closed beta tester will probably be put in without needing to sign-up. If it were ONLY beta testers, they wouldn't have bothered ending the closed beta. The fact is that as many Closed Beta testers as there are, there aren't even half as many people as there was in the original Stress Test( I think there are a few thousand beta testers, but less than 10,000(the Stress Test had 100,000 people)).

Hmm...

sign ups are just to get an account. Of course Closed betas testers dont need to sign up for we already got em. As for the rest, im in the dark. I always thought the stress test was open beta, but seeing as how caydiem referenced them separately(funny spelling word)i guess theyre 2 different phases.

I kind of do hope they let CBers in first though with all servers open... not because of anything ego inflating... i just want to get on a mmog server and be the only one there... that would be... very different :)

So did you find it somewhat crowded during CB with the few servers available at that time?

It seems to me they are rushing this to try and get the game out close to when EQ2 comes out. It still has a lot of good amount of bugs and the new talents for hunters and paladins will have a few weeks for testing and probably will hit retail as they are.

This has been said time and timea again but ill say it anyways...

WoW is more finished than Many mmorpgs were when they released ( and 6 months afterwards). Look at L2, look at EQ (when it first came out), look at EQ2, its a good idea to release when EQ2 does, even if its early. /calm

u do have to remember though, EQ2 has bin in CB MAYBE 3 months, and they plan to release it in early November. WoW has bin in closed better for a lil over 9 months, and its just begining OB, or will soon enough, so from the looks of it, WoW will definatly not beat EQ2, which is fine cuz it will be just as buggy if not more than SWG. WoW has bin polished, not to perfecton, nuthings ever perfect, but to a good enough state where as people can now freely play it on OB and blizzard wont have a problem. I wholeheartedly beleive in blizzard. Know that when they do sumthing like this second stress test its for a damn good reason wutever that may be.

If the servers continue to crash everday like in CB then it will suck somewhat. Same with the forums. I'm going to play it no matter what, but some people might be turned off if these problems continue.

Hrm.... you do know that mass-produced CDs/DVDs are pressed, not burned right? Used to be that was how all CDs were made, it's a lot faster and cheaper ^^

as if any cares but also burned CD's can fade out and eventually not work where pressed CD's stay as long as the CD doesnt get scratched. Sorry i learned about it in school and had to pass it on ^^

Pressed or burned, CDs are damn better than ye ol magnetic floppies. I hated those things, I had a tendancy to demagnatize them if I used em for more than a week. Got to the point I carried a dozen of em in my backpack so that hopefully one would survive. I'd write 2 copies of any important files on 3 disks just in case....

Oh and be careful with Sharies and CDs (burned or stamped). Nothing like being able to read what's writtedn on the top of the disc from the bottom...reversed...

tekkub, in years of working with floppies, both 5 1/4 and 3 1/2, I NEVER had an issue of a floppy demagnetizing on me. Do you live in an electromagnet or something?

Well, after playing with that flicky-metal-windowy thing long enough, I wore out many a floppy. It can be done.

... um... last i checked a normal floppy disk... was... 1.44 megs.....

When I downloaded the stress test it was 2+ gigs, I can only guess that the actual realize will be larger, FFXI was like... 4 gigs?

So if they did it on floppy (please kill me now) it'd be closer to like... 2000 disk >.>

There is always IOMEGA Floppy Disk but then those sorta flopped and didnt sell as well as hoped.

In any case, burned, pressed, floppied, psychic, whatever... I just wanna play the final version >.>

I know a person-- an individual-- who buys CD-R discs in such quantities that they are cheaper (he claims) than floppies. Personally, I'm partial to floppies, but that's because I typically deal with documents less than 1.44 MB in size (Word documents and such). And although I've never had a floppy demagnetize on me, I have had quite a few shatter...

LOL so true, if you get a CD-RW all you need is 1 to beat out 800 floppies. CD-R is slightly less cool, as you can only use it once, but still 800 megs as opposed to 1.44 big difference ^^

#25 Nov 01 2004 at 3:08 AM Rating: Good
Well you could multi-session the CD-R or, god forbid, packet-write it (did they ever get around to making that format work right?)

Yes, I did live in an electro magnet, damn I never mad ethe connection.

For those of you who are creative and do still have a 3" floppy laying about (one that has a metal window cover). it's possible to make a little Enterprise out of the magnetic disk and the cover, be creative!

Thumbdrives anyone? For 20 bucks you can get a 128mb drive that'll work in any windows 2000/XP computer without having to load drivers. And if you like transfering big things you can get 1GB drives for a pretty reasonable price (60-80ish).
