Bah, you beat me to posting it. :P

End of Closed Beta Test - Nebu on 10/28/04
The closed beta test is coming to an end. This Friday, October 29, at 3:00 PM PDT, the closed beta servers will go offline as we prepare to run another stress test. All active closed-beta accounts will remain active, and closed-beta testers will be receiving an email with instructions on what to do to continue playing in the stress test.
We will post more information about the stress test in the days ahead, so please stay tuned to WorldofWarcraft.com.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank the closed beta testers for their months of dedicated testing and hard work. Thanks to all of your suggestions and bug reports, World of Warcraft is closer than ever to being ready for launch!

In unrelated news, we will be bringing the beta servers down today at 6:30 PM PDT for maintenance. We estimate that the maintenance will last for one hour, and when the maintenance is complete, we’ll bring the servers back online. Please keep in mind that this is an estimate; should anything unexpected arise, we’ll post further notice in the Server Status forum. Thanks for your patience.

Sad as I am to say goodbye to my characters, I hope that all the poor people who have been patiently reading the WoW site without having accounts will now be able to play.

Good luck guys- I hope to see you all in game!

So does this mean what I think it means? Could open beta possibly start tomorrow or will we have to wait some more? Well, either way, it's one step closer to open beta and the release of the game as well. YAY!

Can't spell.

Kinda sad, as now I have to be like you guys and find something to do until the game comes out heh. I'm actually glad that I can start working on a character I can keep.

Another "stress test" is probably the in-between step. Now that the code is just about what it will be when they make the CDs/DVDs, they have to test it for stability under a heavy load.

They are also probably going to use the number of applications taken for this stress test as a gauge for how many servers to use for the Open Beta, even if they don't use as many for the S.T..

Actually, ahunter, you'll be keeping your characters into the open beta. Ahem, "stress test" mark II.

I don't think any rational person can call this move a bad thing.

According to the email CB testers are receiving, CB accounts will remain open and characters available. They're shutting down the CB servers tomorrow, at which time we will be able to DL a new game client. Once the OB server prep is done, the start of the stress test will be announced and servers will be brought online. My guess is that the OB server setup will be essentially what we can expect to see in retail & where new OB testers can create characters, and that the CB characters will be placed on live Test servers.

Despite having a level 60 character with a 6 month investment, and several alts, even if there were a character wipe I'd be excited about this... it sounds as if the OB client & patch will contain the final bits of content with everything they planned to add before release. Given a couple-three weeks of OB testing, this game will be darn near ready to go live, imo. :D

If you guys are looking for something to do for this weekend while we wait for open beta to arrive, download that free tryout version of GuildWars. It's pretty fun, and they start you out at level 15 for the tryout period, so you get to start out smashin' up something besides bugs and spiders.
