The Legendary PaladinFollow

I don't know if this has been posted before, but lately I have been checking many class posts in the beta site, and in here, and have heard that Paladins really just tank, and do nothing else. Checking the class spells here in Alla, I see a lot of useful auras and seals, but my question is to any tester out there, are this seplls really useful? Does the Paladin just tank, and thats it? If so, why would they get a paladin in a group, if they can get a warrior who not only tanks but deals lots of damage? Will the talents make the paladin better?

Paladins have a variety of usefuls spells/seals/auras. For auras, you just pick the one that best fits the situation and let it there until it needs changing.

Spells and seals however...most people tend to overlook them and pretend that their class is "gimped" and needs other things. While I played a paladin, I had no problems with useless seals and spells...they were all useful.

Some people just choose to play pally mindlessly. Holy strike, attack, holy strike, attack, heal, etc.. IMO people that do this are not very skillful in the way that they play WoW and should try using the seals and other spells strategically.

Talents will, of course, make paladins better. Never worry.

Everyone, Paladins especially, loves Paladin auras, so those aren't a problem. The seals... it's not that the Paladin's seals aren't useful; it's that they have short duration. Even if seals are useful, they're very tedious to apply, and reapply. That's the complaint of most testers. Paladins are requested for groups, for a few reasons:
1) Backup healer and rezzer
2) buffs, like the auras and seals. There's a seal (forget the name) that heals players who connect with a melee attack. Dual-wielding rogues BEG for that one.
3) Wipe recovery. This will be more fleshed out when paladins get their new abilities, but the upshot is that the Paladin can survive situations where everyone else falls dead. Then he can rez the whole group, member by member.

Notice something missing from the list: TANK.
Currently, the Paladin isn't a very good tank for more than a duo. It has trouble maintaining aggro, in part because of his low damage output. He's almost impossible to kill, but if the enemy's not attacking you, it doesn't matter. Remember this, however: Blizzard has said that they are looking into aggro management for the Paladin. They're really trying to make Paladins viable tanks. Watch for this next patch.

In fact, ALL of what I've just said only applies to the current moment. Paladins will be getting a huge makeover come next patch, so be prepared for any/all of this to change.

Nothing a paladin does right now is very effective. Seals are not very effective. Aura effects, while they are permanent and mana-less, are largely not very effective. (Yay, 72 mana every minute.) Damage is the worst in the game. Despite having the best armor type in the game, nobody seems to feel they can tank anywhere near as well as a warrior, even single target. Their heals are not very effective and are VERY expensive to cast - a paladin with full mana can cast three, maybe four times. The only thing they really bring to the table is the "Brave Sir Robin" effect of being able to run away and live, then come back to resurrect the party.

I overstate the point, of course, but not incredibly so. Paladins are going to be receiving a lot of changes with the next patch, especially the inclusion of talents, so it's not really fair to comment on the current state of the paladin as a deciding factor on what to play at retail.
