NA IP address... how do we get one?Follow

Ok...

What is the best way for U.S. citizens overseas to get a NA IP address so we can participate in the upcoming NA Beta test?

Not a Tech person, so please be specific.

Thanks in advance...

You're better off doing what you said in another post and have a friend submit the info to you then forward the Open Beta info to you. Not really sure of the point of this post since you already figure that out for yourself.

After that, IPs are usually static and difficult to mask, if anyone else has such info, it's hard to say if they would readily tell someone else how to do it...

Thanks,

That is what I thought. Just read the word "proxy" in on of the forum threads so thought maybe someone knew how it worked. I faxed Wednesday asking how service members can get in with no reply. Today, I'm calling from England with the same question. We were told we'd be able to be in BETA, I'm just trying to figure out how.

Thank you kindly for the help. It is appreciated...

You can try to find someone with an open proxy server. Otherwise... you are kinda screwed. You can go to Arin.net and buy a block of IP addresses... but then you will have to register it to what country. Plus you need an ISP that will allow you to broadcast that block VIA BGP or by a static route.... Proxy is like the only real way. Plus are they really going to check for where your IP comes from? That would be kinda a pain to do a reverse look up or a arin whois on it.

Just try to get in. Who knows...you might. I got a bud that got into the beta last time around and he was in belgium.

Also, you need a North American billing address.

Pretty sure he has the US Billing address despite being stationed over seas. Open beta though shouldn't require the billing information in the same way that the Stress Test didn't though. In the Stress Test, all the info to accept billing information was there but they told not to enter anything and just hit continue.

This IS still a part of the beta so it should work the same way. Because a billing address wasn't used, I think Larzz said that he couldn't get in because they didn't accept his non-N.A. IP address. That doesn't make 100% sense though because there were a reasonable number of European and other region beta testers(perhaps they got in from being a member of some of the select EQ guilds that were given keys(not sure though)).

It is all about location. Some ISP hide you behind proxy servers others do not. From what I understand, if you are not technically proficient, don't mess with the proxy route from Europe.

What others have emailed is that I should have been associated with someone in the states willing to attempt to get a beta key for me. For example, one guy here on base is in a large NA guild where they were able to get everyone in the guild into BETA.

It is a shame that people have to resort to that sort of thing instead of being able to participate in BETA as service members were told by Blizzard that they could.

Anyway, I appreciate the suggestions.

I'd guess that a NA billing address would suffice. If not, then you might have to resort to a proxy for the account creation. Googling "US Web Proxy" turns up a lot of services that do this. I would be surprised if you needed to run the game through a proxy server.

I hesitate to recommend any of them, having no experience with any of the ones out there- but you said you weren't technical. This one http://www.findnot.com/ looks like they might fit the bill. I'd advise trading email with them addressing your concerns, and if they satisfy you, paying via paypal so that you could easily terminate the service when you were done.
