I am not a CB tester or Bnet kiddie, just some guy who can't wait to play, and was reading my newspaper this morning.

This is what I found:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/Adam17/NOV22WoW.jpg

I hope someone here can take this to the forums and let ppl know. It is in the Sunday Oct. 24 edition of the Detroit News and Free Press.

Good find. If indeed that is the week of release then we should be looking at Open Beta possibly around late October, early November. Open betas usually last around 15-30 days.

Rate up on the good find. At least it makes sense to have the game release after games like Everquest 2, Halo 2, Half Life 2 and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is out of the way. My prediction is that open beta will open by the 15th of November to allow Blizzard to devert attention from Everquest 2 allowing a week for the game to be released without losing too many people to EQ2 (if that's possible).

Kinda screwed up we find out from a newspaper reporter and the blizzard team hasn't bothered to let the rest of their fanbase know anything at all.

That's ironic. The picture shows a shaman using the Water Walking spell, yet there's a growing consensus that the spell will be nerfed/considerably changed due to people using it for PvP abuses.

Either way, that information would seem to fit the evidence we have on-hand. Seems reputable. Though, as always, nothing is "official" official until it comes from Blizzard studios.

That's because that isn't a blizz date, that is Vivendi saying that.

Viv holds the $$ though so probably going to happen ready or not.

I'd like to point out this is probably true. Several points.

Vivendi owns Blizzard they have every right to say you've been wasting enough time we want money on X-mas sells. Technically though I still want it I read on another forum and I agree to this. There is no need for open beta any information they needed they got from Strss Test. I still think there will be a Open Beta but it will probably be days that it will last.

It's funny people are complaining the game hasn't come out now they are complaining it is coming out.

Evidence to support this?

Blizzard has started making comments like we're hoping to get such and such in before release. That says alone they know their deadline. This is not something Vivendi would pop to the public without telling Blizzard.

Open Beta.. They wouldn't of posted coming soon if it wasn't in the forseeable future. Apparently sometime in that time frame Vivendi told them they've wasted enough time. (And yes they have been wasting time almsot every review and CB tester has said this game is more complete than a lot of MMO's are. To think it would be perfect for release is impossible without it ever getting released.) And they just haven't had the opportunity or time to throw the open beta out when they obviously are having to get that game done.

They have only started doing pity remarks saying we've been working 15/7 work days on this game. Those are hours that obviously show they are having to go into overdrive to make a deadline.

Personally I say Go Vivendi! Blizzard has had very poor PR and not telling its fans anything so it's about time they stepped in and did it for them.

They'll ship it for Christmass if it's even vaguely playable. You can't miss that consumer frenzy.

Bottom of the page, an official Blizzard reply from Ordinn.

Quote:
We appreciate everyone's interest in determining when World of Warcraft will ship, but while we are rapidly approaching the open beta period and we are confident that we will meet our goal of shipping the game before the end of this year, nailing down an exact ship date is a little more complicated due to a number of factors. As soon as we have a specific date to announce, we will be excited to share the news with everyone. Please don't consider any announced release dates official until such an announcement comes from Blizzard. This is true for all announcements related to Blizzard games.

Redmoon I read it but I wanna point out Blizzard is pissed they are locking every single thread about this topic. Yet not deleting them. Blizzard history lesson!

Blizzard hates their owners with a passion this is why some of the founders left themselves Bill Roper the most notable one.

Blizzard can say all they want but if their owners are saying this game is getting released and it's not, the owners can and will start firing people. They did the same to Valve because of Half-Life2. Blizzard has say about what's in the game however Vivendi has the power to say heh too bad this games gettin shipped. And I doubt Vivendi themselves wouldn't of gone so public with this only to have it retracted when it's only a month away. It would only **** off a community already short on patience from unmet release dates by Blizzard.

Vivenda wants the game to be shipped the 22, so that sless than a month away. I think that ius entirely perfect, there is still wrok to be done on the game, but as many have stated, If vivenda wants it out, its out, thats y there moving fast(maybe?), and dont be surprised if sumthing in the nxt big patch gets nerfed, i just want hunter talents to be good and effective :)

*Ahem* (Clears throat)

I understand that "whatever Vivendi says, GOES".

However, and I understand I really have no power or say in this, but, WHY would it be right to release it when there are still classes and areas being finished..?

Sure, Vivendi THINKS they are doing something correct...

Yet, the people (including me) who buy the game WANT the game finished. If I buy the game, and it is uncomplete in areas that I visit. I'll be frantic.

Why release it in November, when they could release it a month later and have it just that much closer to perfection, or, AT perfection?

I do agree, however, people were whining like little brats (including myself) for the release date, and asking for it like there is no tomorrow, however, I STRONGLY believe that what we are whining for is not what Vivendi wishes to serve.

What we want (speaking for most of us...) is a complete game, a game to consume us. We want a game that with every second of the way it's interesting.

I (personally) do not want a slap-happy job, no mickey-mouse play. So far, every game Blizzard has released has been phenomenal, that's just the way I like it. Yet, they get there with a certain pace, they require patches...

Now, I am a veteran MMORPG player, and from experience, I understand if they'd like to update the game, they have to shut it down, get everyone off, close the servers, and whatnot. Then, put some friendly message on their site such as, "This maintenance is expected to take around 2-3 hours, please be patient."

Is that not the reason for betas? To get the bugs out, fix the game so when the game goes live, there is no 3 hour maintenance.

The way I see it, is, if Vivendi pushes for that release date (November 22nd) and Blizzard tries to rush the game and stay over night working on it, they have a big chance to just add more mistakes. Haste makes waste.

Who wants 3-hour patches?

I am a long time MMO veteran. I will happily pay right now to play WOW, I would much prefer 3-24 hour patches & down time for the option to PLAY THE FRIGGIN GAME.

There is nothing out there that can even come close to playing WOW in the stress test. Since that damned test all the other MMO games feel like a chore. I know I an not the only one who would be happy to buy it NOW even with incomplete talents and lacking some high end/pvp content.

I did not say I wouldn't be more than happy to buy it, what I am saying is, if they push the release date just a month back to make it PERFECT would that not be much better.

I see your point Creamed however Blizzard has been taking their sweet time WoW has been promised for how many years now? There never will be WoW included a perfect MMO. The main things not implemented they have said either will be *cough* soon or not till after release and there is only 1 part of the game I question not being ready on.

Hero Classes.. this is something that no one will be getting anytime soon seeing as how you have to reach the limit cap reguardless to open the possibility that buys them some time to implement it..

Battle fields.. Something they said is msotly done just not in the beta but seeing as how most are going to be more into leveling and exploring the first few weeks I doubt battle fields will be that missed till they are put in.

and finally Racial traits... this I question this is a factor in your choices but Blizzard did say it would not make or break a class or impact it big time. I only hope they get on the ball and get them in before release.. That will take quite a bit of balancing.. Personally I think they messed up big time putting Undead in but none of the others. I only hope if they aren't put in before release the charachter creator screen will at least tell you what they are. Racial Traits is something they shoulda put in a long time ago..

Class talents... Almsot all of them are in and fairly well balanced with only a lil loving due to Priest more or less.. Hunter and Paladin is done and has probably been tested to death internally already.

To sum it up as long as they get the racial traits done I will be happy. The other is things that none of us will get to enjoy anyway until higher level. Don't be fooled people are putting too high expectation on Blizzard they are taking too long in this, the perfect MMO will never happen. Vivendi and Blizzard are here to make money and developing a game for what? 5+ years now.... that's just riddiculous even by Blizzard standards.
#25 Oct 25 2004 at 3:45 PM Rating: Decent
I respect your comments.

I agree ENITRELY with how long they've been working on it, and how it's completely ridiculous...

Yet, if Vivendi said, "The release date for World of Warcraft will be December 16th." That makes it a month after Half-Life2, so in theory people may buy it waiting for another game (possibly WoW), and then, a month later WoW comes out and more money income, releasing two games at once isn't smart, then people may have to choose...

Also, pushing it to Dec. 16th would be good for when Christmas comes.

Oh! And, that'd give time for Blizzard to finish everything you wanted, no skimp.

Also, I do agree the stress test even though still testing was AMAZING, and I did like the game just like that, but hey, if they can add in stuff I didn't see before I get to see it, so when I see it, it's completely done; I'd love them for it.

This game has been ready since about August. I have commented on this before and I will leave it at that.

I am tired of seeing Blizzard treat this as a stand-alone game. It is a MMORPG, solely online and patched at least once a month. Why are they postponing this game when instead of focussing on the hard details of character they are adjusting the whiney masses of people who probably wont stick it our past the first month. The destructive cycle of the beta relationship has been going on for months now. The original release was for June, if I remember right. Blizzard needs to stop letting their company be ruled by disinterested children who will most likely just go right back to their FPS games once they get charged a subscription.

Release the game, its finished. Even if the Beta-Gripers haven’t seen the talents they are in place or near finished on Blizzard's home servers. Let a closed alpha server do the majority of the tests then a closed test server takes over just before patch brings it to the masses. At the same time, the majority of the paying public enjoys the game. This worked extremely well for AO, once they figured out what they were doing with the game.

Sure there are reasons for a delay, but the game is done. I highly doubt any one will get to level 60 and drop their subscription in 2 months. There is plenty of time to patch for a few key level cap content issues.

I hope Blizzard knows what they are doing, if they don’t make an end of November release they will really hit a wall in this game. It will be successful no matter what but many will go somewhere else. I think that even EQ2 can fix its problems by the New Year, and lets face it people will buy what exists without another option.

I could go on, but I end it here. Now just quietly waiting as long as I can, lets hope it all works out. I'm just frelling tired of this whole mess.

Edit ------- Content

I have to add one thing.

I do not care much about the open beta, or how long it is if they have it. I can see how an open beta can be both good and bad for sales. Good for sales if you are in heavy competition with similar games. Bad for sales if you’re the only good choice out there, but your look is very different. I am sure this is a hard call for Blizzard as they had built us great word of mouth support from the Stress Test.

If they never have a beta, who cares, I just want a set in stone release date so I can prepare for it. Is that too much to ask? Being stuck in limbo is worse than having to wait another 2 months.
