I'm pleased to announce that I'm releasing first version our World of Warcraft character profile system to beta.

You can see an example here: http://wow.allakhazam.com/profile.html?1

Character Profiles are free for all users, they do require a (free) site account so that we can tag the character to you. The first version tracks equipment stats and skills.

In order to get your character in,you need to use Wowreader and under the options menu enter your allakhazam.com username and password. Once you've installed Wowreader, you'll need to fire up World of Warcraft and enter and exit the game world. Your characters will appear under the Your Characters (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/userinfo.html?1) link on the left menu.

You can select from 64 icons for display currently, I'll be adding more to the list as time goes on.

Additionally, an XML dump of your profile is available if you want to use the data in any other applications.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome, here, via PM or email.

Will it be possible to externaly link these profiles into a webpage?

Such as if we use an include with PHP to have the profile directly on the webpage; or a javascript function so that we can stick the profiles directly on our guild webpage without having to be switching website? Obviously the profile should sitll have a link back to Alla..

Thottbot's profile system does this (using Javascript).. just something that I found very nice and useful. =)

No stats on the neck or waist though, oddly. I'll need to log-in and see what the actual numbers on them are. (How does the profiler handle random greens?)

Edit: Ok, just updated things, items with random stats should show up correctly on profiles now, let us know if you notice any errors.

I'll have a look at adding something similair. Meanwhile you can do an iframe element 392 wide and 502 tall. One complaint I'd seen re: thottbot was the inability to export the profile data, hence the XML dump of the profile.

I have 'logged in' to wow reader, and uploaded and no characters. I uninstalled wow reader, deleted the folder, and all files. I reinstalled, put in my login information, and still no characters...

So, can this system be used with a Mac? or have we been left out again?

It's my intention to have a WowReader client for OSX.

I seem to be having some troubles with this program as well. I run the program, log into my character, log out, try to upload and it says "no new date to upload" or something of those sorts. Am I missing something blaitantly obvious somehow? I am logging in as well, so I know that can't be the problem either. I'm lost and want to show off my profile, lol.

You need to press Refresh probably. I dont think you are supposed to run the program until you have exited WoW, but if you run it before you start WoW I am guessing it will only pick up on the data if you do a Refresh.

So what else is planned for this system? I realize calculating stats and retrieving talents might be more difficult without a plug-in to the game itself. Will profiles be sortable?

I made sure that I started the program up before loading WoW. I will attempt to load the game without running CosmosUI, although I don't think that is the problem. I'll update when I get home and can try this out.

Yes - planning sortability on profiles.
Stats - debating how to store them means we're showing the wrong # at the moment.
Talents - Irritating Lua interface to pulling the values from the client is the hold up.

I'm open to suggestions for anything people would like to add as well.

MightyMage: It sounds like you're doing everything correctly, and you're right there shouldn't be any conflicts with Cosmos. One thing I've noticed is that sometimes the SavedVariables.lua file which we use to export the data gets locked and wow won't write to it. The fix is to open the file in any editor, hit enter on a blank line and save it. Deleting the file works too.

Let me know if that works, I'm expecting a few problems as we roll this out.

I noticed in the XML feed you do not include the skills for the player. Can we have those added as well, specifically the tradeskills?

Hmm... tried adding a blank line at the bottom of the file you said and still no luck. :( Do you know of any other possible reasons this may be happening?

Done. I'm not convinced I like the structure of the xml yet.

Here is a feature that could be interesting

Don't know how much work it would be...
Maybe it could be a premium feature...

But something like "search for teammates"
It could search for teammates with some criteria.

Complemental classes
Level Range
Tradeskill accomplishment

ps: sorry for the somehow not that good english...

I like the look and gell of it so far. I notice that the profiles don't include Enchantments or other permanent added effects (such as scopes for ranged weapons). Is that planned to be added?

edit: also, my stats seem to be off quite a bit, and the enchantments don't account for it. The stats are quite a bit lower than they appear in game, but all items appear to have the correct stats.

Hmm I played my Night Elf druid for 8 levels last night and he isn't showing up on my character list after uploading. It is strange because my Orc Warrior updates fine.
