Are Mages decent Solo?Follow

I played EQ Wizard for a long time they were very good solo - i could kill lots of NMs and white+ mobs at lvl 56,in Lineage 2 i was a spellsinger and i could solo and get about same exp as in party. In WoW are mages able to solo well - or is this one of the games where a rogue has a huge dps and mages are just decorations? Im a person who likes to solo for exp grind - yes i know that i play a mmorpg and i should go play a rpg if i wanna solo - i like guilds / talking with others etc. I just like to be able to solo well if i want - any input ?

Agreed, all classes can solo. This game has such well balanced classes. Yet, only the mage and rogue can consistantly take on most mobs 4-5 levels higher than them. The mage's penalty for this capability is downtime every 3 or 4 fights. The rogue will have some downtime as well, but I've not played one enough to get a good feeling for how it compares to a mage's downtime. Regardless of what that warrior video that is floating around various sites shows, keep in mind that warrior is taking on mobs his own level +/- 1. His DPS is laughable compared to the mage and rogue, but he makes up for it with very little downtime between fights. I'd rather have my mage soloing red/orange quests than a warrior who has to wait for them to go yellow or green before soloing them.

On the beta 2 server, for Alliance, someone from beta 1 came over about 5 days after the server went live (with one or two people already 30) and started soloing a mage. He was the second person to reach 60.
