So...if the Open Beta is just getteing ready to start, what does that mean about a retail release date? At last check EB was saying WoW would be released on Dec 16. But that doesn't give people very long to progress in the open beta. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Why didn't you ask in any of the other open beta threads?

yeah, with open beta starting very soon judging by all the downtime everywhere in WoW, Nov. 15th seems very promising, very promising indeed

But is a month or 2 enough time for Blizzard to get what they need out of the open beta? O is this gonna be a case of the game getting pushed back again?

Most people have come to the conclusion that Open Beta won't be very long-- two weeks is the neighborhood we're looking at. Open Beta isn't as much for testing out pieces of the game-- that's what closed beta is for. Think of Open Beta like Stress Test 2, testing the infrastructure and layout of the areas. Open Beta is a release-simulator.

Anyway, Blizzard never said anything about a release date. Anything you hear from anyone is informed (or uninformed) guesswork. Most people seem to think mid-to-late November, but again, educated guesswork.

Chah is right. Open Beta isn't to test content like the closed betas were.

Open Beta is to test the content that they will release at retail under real conditions. They want to make sure all the bugs are worked out, things work they way they are supposed to. That the servers can support the numbers they want, etc..

Open Beta won't be testing new content so much as testing that existing content works the way they want it to.

Open Beta will be couple weeks, then game will go gold a week or so later, and ship soon after that. That's if everything works the way Blizzard wants it to, which is the purpose of Open Beta.

I'm guessing first week of december.

ACtually November 15 is the projected release date, it is of course able to be changed but i dont think they will. MMORPG's are never finished when they are released.. i mean look at EQ. The only reason ff11 and lineage 2 were decent when they were released is because they have been in other countries for a long time. games like Horizons - EQ - WoW will seem much worse in retail.. and i mean these guys gotta make some money, making a game like this costs millions

"Projected release date"? If it doesn't come from Blizzard, I won't believe it. That said, the game will probably be ready to ship by mid-to-late November. That's just how the schedule looks right now. I will also object to your comment:
"WoW will seem much worse in retail [than ff11]"
The game looked pretty darn sharp back during stress test. I could count on one hand the number of bugs I encountered, and the gameplay was very sweet. It's been a month and a half since then, and I doubt that things have gotten worse.

I have to agree with Chah here. I was in the stress test also and I would have payed to play as it was!! Also keep in mind I was playing the Hunter Class which was rather incomplete at the time, but I STILL LIKED IT!!

I was there for EQ in the beginning, WoW is a lot more finished and polished a month ago that EQ was a year after release. Don't get me wrong, I loved EQ in its time, but that time is over. A new age is about to begin.....
