Yes I am quite aware there is another thread about the open beta but this is addressing another issue of it that kinda has me worried. The whole "We will be accepting applications" part... Now I can understand you needing to register for the beta but they are taking applications?

This just sounds like another closed beta where only a few get lucky.... I'm definitely looking forward to this game and I will buy it but if that's the case.. they handled this very poorly and shoulda just given open beta to the remaining people that signed up for closed beta. Because that's just not right.. ><

Anyone have these concerns or have any valid information that I'm not founded?

They've said before that the application is because they need to keep track of who their testers are. If they did just give it to the remaining applicants from closed beta than it would be just another part of closed beta.

The general consensus agrees with VampyreKnight. "Application", as far as we can tell from what Blizzard's been saying, is just a way to make sure you live in the US, make sure they can contact you, and the like. Odds are against any sort of limitations a la closed Beta.

I think the number of applications they get will also be a good indications as to how many server to start with!!

I'm sure they know how many people they are targeting for a server and that they don't either want to over-extend themselves or over-crowd the servers. By taking applications they know exactly how many people want to play NOW and can plan accordingly.

I'd hate to skip open beta, just means more things go live that would be unwanted. As long as I get to play either way, im happy.

On Blizzard's web site, they had the following announcement.

"On Friday, October 15, the servers that handle both sign-ups and account creation will come down in preparation for Web-infrastructure updates. If you have a beta key that you have not yet activated, we strongly recommend you do so before Friday. You will be unable to create a closed beta account once we deactivate these services. As always, thank you for being patient with us while we work to bring you the best experience we can deliver." --Caydiem, on worldofwarcraft.com

To my mind, this can only mean one thing. They are retooling the servers NOW in preparation for the imminent flood of open beta gamers.

This makes me happy. The writing on the wall becomes clearer with every post. The future is now.

I may have heard wrong, but I thought they were going to limit the open beta to 300,000. That's still more than plenty, considering everyone else who wants to try the game will get their chance shortly afterwards.
