Im not sure if im the only one to notice this but look at these numbers from allakhazam.

FFXI WoW SWG DAOC EQ
Items 5570 7472 N/A 18953 28849
Quests 472 1794 472 1027 2739
Npc's 3003 6010 3337 7923 16380

Just think wow has that much more stuff and its only in beta compared to FFXi which has been around for 3 years.
Also as you can see WoW only loses in items to daoc and EQ the grandfathers of MMo's :P Its number 2 in quests and number 3 in Npcs which is very impressive since its still in beta.

Why is SWG list as N/A for items? I haven't played it, but I assume there are items in it. :P

I wouldn't completely trust the figures on WoW. I could give reasons why they could be infactually high or low. And more items and NPCs doesn't necessarily mean a game is better. Diablo II had maybe 30 real NPCs (plus a bunch of guards milling around), but many people consider that a great game. As we were all quick to point out to the ridiculous IGN reviewer, more != better.

Not that I'm arguing with the thesis of your post, just the reasoning behind it.

SWG didn't have many items at release and most items were so random we couldn't catalogue them. But as I stated in the beginning, SOE eventually bent over to the hordes of players and created static items etc. There is an item database, it is just, um, like a holding container until one is really created. However with the other games coming, that may be awhile. If you would like to count them, you can find items here. It is a work in progress and a new page, but a page for items nonetheless.

The thing that got me was the number of quests.

WoW has almost 4 times as many quests (3.8x to be exact) as FFXI.

EQ, which has been out for 5+ years, only has about 1k more quests.

I really like the way WoW is with quests. Quests are just about the best experience. Having been an EQ player on-and-off for the past five years, quests were always a joke as far as experience was concerned.

SO glad WoW changed this. I expect EQ2 to follow along and do the same, but it would have been nice if Ever"QUEST" had put more value into quests. It had earned the nick-name Never-quest. Of all the quests that it currently has, I'd have to really wonder how many are actually worth doing(as in give a fitting reward for having complete it)?

I concur with KerikDaven. From my experience with the stress-test, it seemed like you could get almost all your experience just doing quests (and killing whatever monsters got in your way, of course). There wasn't the need to farm. If you were doing tradeskills or whatnot then yeah, you farmed for mats, but I didn't so I didn't. I seemed to run short of quests in the upper 20s, but that's because I was on the Horde side. Since then I've been watching the database and it seems they added a TON of stuff in the two patches since Stress Test, in Thousand Needles especially. Which means back to pure questing for me... I'll be happy for a long time.
