If it comes out soon, could save me a lot of money.

I just bought City of Heroes.

I was going to buy:

Star Wars: Battlefront

and

Bard's Tale

along with UO: Samurai Empire

all to tide me over until WoW came out.

Now, it looks like I won't have to.

"So when do you think open beta will be out? Monday?"

Ahem... While this news has delighted me as much as everyone else, I'd like you to pay attention to part of the dev's post.

"we will soon be accepting applicants"

Curious thing to say about an "open" beta, isn't it? Especially since only "more details" will be available "over the next few days".

Look at it this way, there was lag time between the stress test applications and the stress test itself, right? And more lag time still between when they announced the stress test and when they started accepting applications.

I'd give it a week for the start of applications, then another week before the Open Beta begins.

Okay, in my lurking around the Blizzard forums I found this little tidbit:

"2. There will be more patches before open beta." --Ordinn

This is where I found it: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general&t=392801&p=1#post392801

So far in the Beta, it's been a touch more than a month between patches. The quickest I can think of happened recently-- nine days from patch to patch. Given the frequency between patches, I think we can safely say Open Beta won't start until the last week of October AT THE EARLIEST. Most likely, we're looking at a nice Halloween present from Blizzard. Until then, sadly, we'll all have to stew in our own juices.

Honestly I am starting to get tired of waiting. Wow is starting to loose it's appeal for me. I have waited a year and although I do appreciate the fact that they are trying to release a bug free game. I think they should have more manpower or something. It is getting old.

WoW has been in development for very long..i remember viewing tons of screenshots during 2001, but its been 3+ years, and they have not released it yet..

And now they are going to ***** the people that are non-NA..wtf!

Games take time. I'd much rather wait and have a semi-bug free game, then them put it out on the market knowing it sucks.

Also, the game is being released first in NA and Korea. Seems like doing NA-open beta first is a logical discision. I doun't they're trying to "***** the people what are non-NA."

People need to calm down. It's just like in FFXI where everyone was so damn sure that the Japanese were in some huge plot to make sure the Americans didn't get NM spawns or with the current release of CoP, that the Japanese had a HUGE advantage because they get it a few days earlier. Trust me, I doubt any company who is worth a damn is going to "***** over" people in other countries who want to partake of their product.

Hey, what's goin on? I'm new to both warcraft and these forums :)

Also, I have yet to beta test any game ever, and I have no clue how it works. How exactly do I become a tester in open beta? I don't have any blizzard CD key other than starcraft, so I hope I don't need a warcraft or diablo key :(.

Anyway, any help is greatly appreciated, and I hope to be joining everyone soon on WoW :).

peace

"Honestly I am starting to get tired of waiting."
"its been 3+ years, and they have not released it yet.."

Woah, come on now! Okay, so three years in development is a long time... so you're gonna give up on it NOW? When the game is actually close to release? When there is actually stuff to get excited about?

This was probably just a PR botch on the part of Blizzard. In fact, it's a remake of a PR botch on the part of Westwood. When the original "Command and Conquer" came out, there was a trailer on the CD for something called "Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun". But Westwood did a bunch of things without working on Tiberian Sun at all. When Tiberian Sun finally came out, six years had passed, and everyone thought, "Well, it was in development for six years, it must be awesome!" And it was only so-so. It was a fairly good game... but the pressure was so intense and the expectations so high that even a fairly good game looked like a piece of trash. Call it "Episode I" syndrome. The moral of the story: resist the temptation to release the news about your projects immediately. Wait until you're getting reasonably close to done. Reasonably close, in Blizzard time, is about 18 months.

Having said all that... with only one more month to go you're gonna bum out now? C'mon, show some Stamina. As of now, you are allowed to get excited about World of Warcraft. It's close, really close. One month max to Open Beta, two months max to release. Feeling it yet?

Don't think importing it will help unless you pay from U.S o.o

If I live in Europe or Asia and have preordered a US version of the game from an online retailer, will I be able to play the game when I receive it?

Players who do not use a method of payment accepted in North America and who do not have a North American billing address will not be able to play on US servers. Therefore, we highly recommend that players in other regions instead preorder the game for their local region and purchase their World of Warcraft subscription when the game launches locally to them. Doing so will ensure that they have the best possible World of Warcraft gameplay and support experience available.

soo can anyone help me out? :P. BTW I read the post that you are supposed to read before posting, and I don't think the beta questions really apply to what I'm asking, especially since now we know that open beta is coming soon. I am just looking for general information about how to test a game that is in open beta, because I've never done it before and no absolutely NOTHING about it.

Again, all help is greatly appreciated

Answers to the guy who asked questions about beta: Basically you just sign up, and they send you a cd key. You needed of tested any games before, and or have any of blizzards stuff. This is open beta, which means anyone can join. When your in you dont have to do anything special, except play the game and have fun. Theoretically you should be looking for bugs, but most people dont do that. GL

Yes, applicants. Open Beta, as I understand it, isn't actually "open". The only people who get in are the ones who applied for beta positions in February. You know, the 300,000 or so applicants?

I really doubt there will be another application process. If you didn't sign up in February you are pretty much screwed as far as open beta is concerned.
