Read something earlier about having forced servers :( Did I hear wrong or will it be almost impossible to play with friends

Also wanted to say something bout FFXI---> First let me say that I am a 62drg/31war rank 8 so yeeeh I've had plenty of play time to make any negative statements about the game. It's sad when the most fun thing I've done in game recently is wait around for a GM to show (because I havn't seen one yet ><;) on some guy that went bananas and started shouting obscenities in Lower Jeuno. And even that was a disappointment because apparently the GM arrived invisible. Also....some times a guy just feels like going for a swim, drowning, guzzlin some alcohol, jumping off a cliff or hell even just plain JUMPING!

Those kooky JP and their neat little structured existence.

But yeh in case you forgot what the initial post was about (sorry bout my rant) here it is again:

here's the quote from an interview:

Has Blizzard considered the havoc forced servers will reek on guilds? What kind of loopholes will people have to jump to change servers from the start? How soon after release will it be possible to switch? Are we looking at a week? A month? A year!?
This decision was made to guarantee that we provide the best service, both support wise and connectivity wise to our players. We know that this is a very important point to our players and when we have updated info on the matter, we’ll be sure to share it with our playerbase.

the almost unanimous theory that the beta testers have developed on this is that Vivendi is being stupid and trying to make Blizzard force players onto regional servers, probably because it will simplify servers and support. Reading their FAQ on this subject is almost painful, and it really reads like they realize completely that this is pushing a lot of people away from WoW, but they are completely unable to change it or even point a finger at Vivendi. No doubt there's a great deal of stress over this in the Blizzard offices.

On a related note, Vivendi is also causing a huge hassle over Valve distributing Half-life 2 via Steam, which you may have heard about. Google will probably return some news articles on that, I don't remember where all I've read about it.

I heard SOE was making it a point to mention that Everquest 2 wouldn't force players onto local servers, but I didn't notice it with a quick glance at their site.

I didn't see anywhere where it said that if you lived in the US East you had to play a US East server.

I believe, the "forced" servers are only for players in other countries, Europe and Korea.

Which makes a ton of sense.

GO on the FFXI boards and hear people ***** about all the maintenance times being during NA (north american) peak playing times and not JP peak times (the servers are in JP). Also get people complaining that the JP have better provoke times because of differences in server latency (being closer to the servers) so they get a better chance at the high-end monsters.

Again, I don't see where it said you had to play on your regional US server (east or west).

Everyone is forced onto regional servers, EXCEPT that North Americans can play on US East or US West.

And no, I don't think anyone actually likes the arrangement. A lot of people are even wondering where that puts them, like Australia for instance.

Yea that "Where is Australia post" was freaking long. The blue text gave vague information.
