How is this game compared to FFXI?

There have been entirely too many threads on this subject. I hate to say it, but you'll probably be flamed for asking. I'd suggest you scroll through some pages of the forum and see if you can find the thread.

Good Luck.

I have the beta for this game and I haven't played it in 2~3 months. It's very choppy when you fight, bad music, but the tradeskills are fun like mining. I would play FFXI over this anyday (Oh wait I do!). Just my 2 cents..

WTF!!!!!, i can gaurentee you your the ONLY person who will ever choose FFXI over WoW, and to add my two cents, FFxi was horrendis

*Notices that Kojak hasn't played in 2 to 3 months* Personally I wouldn't trust the opinion of someone who hasn't played the game when it recieve its more important patches that expanded on a few things such as various areas, the hunter class, fixing balancing issues and the such. Just my 2 cents..

On a side note, no more FFXI vs WoW threads. For every FFXI vs WoW thread created, baby tauren is thrown off a cliff and into a river. Think about the baby taurens!

Baby Mithra's*

(Just so WoW is not affected, however.. then everyone would make FFXI vs WoW threads.. dammit..)

Anyways..

WoW - Amazing.
FFXI -

Ok people here's the truth of the games.

FFXI- Good game although your never rewarded with anything, sure theres super cool equipment but then you realize you MUST have that super cool equipment to be able to even be decent in a party at higher levels. Very hardcore player friendly.

WoW- Very friendly to everyone else. Not as much of a perfect character build game every race can do any of its available jobs well. etc etc blah blah (sorry i get lazy)

If you want to waste your time not having fun 80% of the time, then FFXI is better. ^^

<-- Can't wait for WoW so I can quit FFXI

From FAQ thread...

Which is better, WoW or FFXI?

WoW is better unless you...
want to change your character class constantly.
want a game that forces you to party and can never solo.
want a game that takes you a good 100 days of played time to come close to the level cap.

If that answer is too simplistic, or you want to argue the point, there are ample WoW vs. FFXI threads in the forum.

I think threads should be locked if they're comparing games to World of Warcraft. It bothers me alot when people always want to buy new games but want the same things from other games in them.

It depends. They might just be looking for a basis of comparison so they know whether they might like the game so they can decide whether or not to buy it. If you told me to buy some new game I had never heard of, of course I'm going to ask you to compare it to *something*. The only reason WoW gets compared to FFXI and not, say, Mike Tyson's Punch-out, is because the game doesn't resemble Punch-out in the slightest.

However, if they are comparing it for the purposes of nitpicking, then yes I agree. People should not try to make the game what they just came from. What I find ironic is that most people that do that are complaining that WoW doesn't have some annoying aspect of their game that they elsewhere will say they don't like. (Painstakingly slow leveling with heavy group dependency, for example.)

They shoudln't need any basic comparison because they should just read the main site and not fustrate beta testers that are trying to answer useful questions. If I tell you to buy a game the first thing ever should do is look it up and gather all info about it to see if that's what your looking for.

Yes, that's the first thing.

The second thing is to get a comparasion from someone that has played both games.

Unless you spend the money to buy and play the 2nd game, the only way to find out our Game #2 compares to Game #1 is to ask someone that has played both for their comparasions.

You can't really tell if you're going to like the game by reading about it on the main site in articles and information supplied by the publisher/developer. You need to hear from people that have actually played both games so they can compare the features of both.

Then, you process that information and make your decision.

No one can tell you if you're going to like it or not, but you can use other people's opinions to help forumulate yours.

edit:
Personally, I want to hear about how former FFXI players like WoW. There are some things reading about the game wont' tell you, you need to learn from players. For instance, FFXI's main site won't tell you anything about the partying problems/issues. The only ways you'd find that out are 1) spending the money and learning the hard way or 2) hearing from other players.

Well I played ffxi for a while, and the partying makes you go crazy.I mean 1 out of 100 parties are good with experienced and fun players. While the other paries are full of jackasses and/or don't know how to play.Of course why are you listening to me? I played ffxi for a half a year and got my highest lvl to 18.

The thing that attracted me to WoW was that you fought different monsters and that a same lvl warrior might have different armor. In ffxi you fought the same monster till 75 and I saw a rdm lvl 45 that had armor that looked like it was lvl 12.I hope WoW has at least a little bit of story in it (I couldn't get high enough of a lvl to be in the cool ffxi missions)

well i only played WoW for one day but... i loved it it was awesome you see as far as i can tell WoW is a great game for just about anyone while FFXI is a game for Hard core players and sadly there are no rewards for high lvls (except the lucky white mages and black mages with there warp and teleports) sadly i love challenges yet loved Warcraft and i love both there story lines but i can only afford one i cant decide ; ;

I liked FFXI alot. But there are certain elements in the game which makes the game alittle unenjoyable. FFXI is really meant for people who can wait in Jeuno for an EXP party to be assembled.

In Worlds of Warcraft you can solo exp, share quest and go on raids. I loved the stress test and that simple week has made me a converter. I already pre-ordered the collectors edition of Worlds of Warcraft :P Just like I pre-ordered the Warcraft III collectors edition :P Blizzard so far has never let me done in quality and in game play. So far it's been one week. It's been close to a year before I started to get tired of FFXI alittle. So maybe in one years time my attitude will be different when I start playing Worlds of Warcraft :P
