I know PvP is player versus player, but i cannot seem to find what PvE means.

Could someone tell me, and maybe explain the difference?

Thanks in advance.

Player versus Environment. In PvP you kill real people and computer controlled monsters. In PvE you just kill the monsters.

In PvE you can still kill real people though... Just, I'm not sure of the exact technicallitys, but in PvE you have to like engage an enemy NPC, then people of the other faction can attack you at will, or if somebody of the other faction attacks an NPC of your faction your open to attack them for like 5 minutes, until they're pvp flag goes away.

In PvP though... I think if somebody of the other faction is just in a zone controlled by your faction, you can chop their head off at a will. But the same goes for you in an enemy zone.

Oh, and I think on both kind of servers you will have a /duel command, where you can challenge any one person to a duel, no matter who they are. :)

In PvE servers pvp will still happen it'll just be planned raids and when battlefields go in there will be plenty of people there. So really the only difference between the two servers is full time vs part time pvp .

Nichol, when you get flamed, you b.itch, you made an entire thread about why flaming people was wrong, so you can stfu.

PvE, as everyone said, is Player Versus Environment, and you can kill people in it, but under certain circumstances. They both need to have a pvp flag - by typing /pvp. Or, if on the same faction, type /duel, or right click on their portrait and click "duel".

Everyone is defining PvE has it relates to WoW, where PvE does have a PvP component.

In the generalest sense, that can relate to any game:

PvE is Player vs. Environment, also sometimes called PvM (Player vs. Monster)

Not all PvE has PvP components, so it's important to realize the distinction.

I can't believe how useless some threads are some people can't just bother to read main sites FAQ. It really shows how lazy people are in the internet.

pvp: rival faction == mobs, u can attack anyone of the opposite faction if u see one and vice versa, no need for challange, duels, etc, also be prepared to be ganked, corpse camped and harrassed occasionally/all the time.

pve: u wont get ganked, camped...etc if you dont want to. also players on the pve servers are called "carebears" by pvp extremists on the pvp servers.

/slap

Please. DO NOT attempt to act like you know what your talking about if you do not. Which in this case you most certainly do not. (I'm not saying hey, look I know everything, but when I'm not sure about something, I ask a question. I don't act like I know what I'm talking about, which is what I made up in my head 15 seconds before typing and posting it.) There will be no ganking/camping/harrassing because whoever DOES do that, will have the PvP sign on them constantly, and get a title that tells everybody, hey I gank noobs all day long, please kill me. Which will in turn, stop the ganking/greiving/camping dramatically.

And some people just like PvE. No need to call them carebears like they're inferior players.

STEREOTYPE.... I love people that classify the PvP server like this and when you make fun of the blue server they get angry. Even without the Honor System the ganking barely happens. Only in some overcrowded zones it usually happens. The honor system will fix almost most of everything and people who whine about getting ganked are a bunch of whining idiots. I mean who is that lazy to just take a 2 minute corpse run. PvP elitists is not the whole community not everybody goes by if your name is red your dead. I mean this generalizing is stupid and just starts fights between the servers. No one will ever agree with one another because in the beginning they are in different servers so there view on things is completely different.

P.S. Redmoon i guess you never heard of a typo :-) Your feeble attempts to making me look wrong are a failed attempt.

Talking to you Redmoon gets really old. On the Onenforcer quote it's not a typo you moron because it was a name arimer suggested. Wow you really have some issues you go through all that trouble just to prove me wrong and you say that you aren't you contradicted yourself twice. The first time was when you quoted all my mistakes. The second time is when you are saying that your trying to knock me down my high horse. If your trying to say i'm cocky that's fine i know i'm not.
The whole reason why i went through the trouble to pointing out all the mistakes in Creamed's post was because he had to flame like a little kiddie and the first thing i noticed was i barely could read the sentence. It had a ton of commas which is not a mistake because it was intentional. My mistake was "fresh i nice stupid idea to put out?" which was just a simple typo. I would like that you refrain from continuing to try to make me look stupid or whatever your trying to prove. It gets old arguing with you.

Children, children...

Bob - PvE can also stand for Player versus Enemy, which is essentially the same thing as environment - fighting computer-controlled opponents.

Nicholi - uncalled for, but you've admitted as much.

Creamed - right point, way wrong attitude.

Gihja 1 - you're just fanning the flames to take a shot at Creamed. I know you two don't like each other, but c'mon.

Gihja 2 -
Quote:

I love it when it goes the other way. You can't act like PvP-players are saints in this regard - I'd say they're usually worse, or at least strong antagonists.

Redmoond - usually people who use the phrase "holier than thou" in a post are out to prove something. When following it up with the triple quote, you kinda reinforce the mindset you are displaying. I understand your purpose, but I don't know if you come off the way you intend.

Gihja 3 -
(a) The "misspelling" of onenforcer isn't the only thing wrong in that quote.
(b) He's not "out to prove you wrong" across the board, like, ahem, certain people are, but he was making a point. I'll admit he could have used a little more tact, but I don't think he was being overly rude, given the environment.
(c) You are definitely cocky, not that I'm one to talk.
(d) "fresh i nice stupid idea to put out?" is not a typo; it simply makes no sense. A typo is a misspelling due to the use of a keyboard, like wehn yuo maek misteaks lik ethis.
(e) Creamed's post, syntatically speaking, doesn't actually have ENOUGH commas in it...the only thing wrong with it is his writing style, not the content, and,
(f) I'm not out to specifically prove you wrong, but I did admit that I am cocky, and I will jump on people at times for things they say that I feel are wrong - the fact that I didn't just mention your posts should indicate that. (The fact that I mostly mentioned your last post simply means there was a lot I felt was wrong with it.)

The reason why I flamed Creamed is because i guess the closed-minded people don't understand that Nichol said a joke. I'm not here to take shots at anyone you actually think I have a grudge with him. I usually actually don't read his posts. I saw that he was particularly bothered about what Nichol said so i decided to defend Nichol. Your saying that PvE players are better people basically with that statement about me thinking PvPers are saints. No one is any better than one another you know. The only difference is the server they pick and there mindset about what to do in a MMORPG. Everytime I flame someone for a good reason I have more people joining the Party. LIke Seoman said there seriously should be server forums. That way i can go to those boards and i can be the only one posting there and i won't have sensitive PvErs flaming me. I can answer my own posts it will be a BlasT!

Generally between PvP and PvE, I choose PvE. The way the "blue" servers of WoW is really cool to me though because there is PvP, but on a voluntary basis.

I would probably like PvP a lot more if you didn't have the 'ganking' that everyone talks about. It's one thing to fight another player, it's another to run around newbie zones "mowing the lawns"(killing people so far below your level they couldn't possibly have a chance against you).

I know for a fact that not all PvPers are like this. In fact PvPers in general are very much against this and help hunt such offenders down. Generally there is a lot less PvPing on PvP servers than non-PvPers suspect. It's more like real life where people don't just go off and kill people for no reason, usually there is a real in-game reason for it other than a sudden mood swing or because IRL their daddy used to beat them up and now they want to be a bully.

Those few bad players though do ruin it for a lot of people and give PvP the reputation that it has. Something that does hold true though is that PvP servers Do tend to draw a lot more "grief" players than non-PvP servers. Generally the griefers lay low until they have gotten to a powerful position in the game and then let their colors show because then there are fewer people who can stop them. These people though are a MINORITY. Sadly they make the biggest impact in the impression people get of PvP.

Back to what I like about WoW PvE servers though. I like the fact that you CAN PvP and do it as often as you like, or not at all if that is your choice. I like that the game from creation is being made with balance meant for BOTH types of play. If you call the non-PvP servers blue, I think red would fit PvP, and as a good comparison, WoW's non-PvP servers would actually be PURPLE(being a solid mix of the two). I like that the servers are really in the middle of the two kinds of server.

I think it's sad that the two kinds of players can't get along, but then such is real life. Too bad we can't just leave it at you play your way and I'll respect your right to do so, and I'll play my way, and please respect my right just as much even if it differs from your way. That applies to everything in life, but unfortunately too many people think that if it isn't being do THEIR way, it shouldn't be allowed.

Think well on this and go in peace. I know I didn't solve anything, but if you spend a moment thinking about the truth of it, it's at least something.

So when people "complain" about how ganking is so bad and negative they are making the PvE crowd look good. It would be great that if people don't like the PvP server they would stop talking about it. This goes for the PvP crowd to we should stop being negative about the PvE server also so no one will be bothered. I just hate how when PvE people whine about How Blizzard nerfs charge and they come in the boards and start topics whining about how Blizzard always makes PvP nerfs, which shouldn't apply to the PvE server. This is what bothers me about the Beta Community they think they should be excluded from most of the Class nerfs because they say it affects them the most.

That tends to be people in general. They couldn't care less about other people's problems, but if it effects them, then it's the end of the world and there are 100+ reason it's unfair.

Something the ENTIRE WoW community needs to be aware of is the fact that if there were NO PvP server, these changes would still need to be made. To be honest, there are no NON-PVP servers, the PvE servers HAVE PvP, it's just more limited but it's still there and must be balanced in the same way. Also, on the PvE servers, if you really wanted to, you COULD avoid the PvP content, but would really be missing out. "Ganking" can be just as common on the PvE servers.

Battlefields: I think just about everyone knows what they are in WoW. It's a land with both Alliance and Horde towns and quests that involve attacking your opponents town or various NPCs of said town. All it takes is a low level player character trying to do a quest while there is a person of the opposite faction there who feels like killing them. When attacking a person of the opposite faction, even if it's an NPC, your PvP switch is turned on and you are open to attack. This is just an example of a casual encounter, naturally there will be more formal raids and wars against opposite factions, even on the PvE server.

That said, this is one game where arguments of this nature shouldn't even be taking place. If a person doesn't want to PvP, they can but will need to know how to avoid it. If they actually HATE PvP so much that they don't even like the idea of it on the PvE servers, then they should look into other game possibilities as this is a big part of what WoW is.

Funny thing about ganking is when you get killed in a PvE server you have to wait 5minutes for the flag to wear off so someone can attack you when you rez. In the PvP server you die and just corpse run for 5 minutes. Different.... No!

Hello,

Personnaly, I don't like PvP : I'm a bit old to try to prove anything in a video game... I heard some really sad stories about Lineage II, and don't want to experience them in WoW...

Playing actually FFXI, I find that there is a lot of people that even in this PvP free game (nearly) like to mess the playing fun of others... So, I'm not for giving them more tools...

So it will be PvE for me...

There's somewhat of a difference. In the PvP server, contested zones encourages open pvp while the pve server does not. A large amount of zones in WoW are contested and people in pve obviously does not want open pvp when they are questing. If they (pve players) get attack by the opposite faction its because they want to be attacked and must suffer the consequences if they die. I do agree that both servers are the same in terms of pvp battles. Remember that in pve, you will be bothered less with pvp battles since you can choose to engage the battle or prance happily away collecting your 3rd scorpion tail.
