While WoW is a "Roleplaying" game, no one really seems to roleplay in any of these MMORPG games. I'd like to have them put up at least one server which is "roleplaying preferred" much like Everquest did. I know this is not Everquest and I certainly don't want it to be, but there ARE people who want to roleplay. When I first started Everquest I tried to roleplay my character but it becomes near impossible if others aren't making any attempt to do the same.

I'm not looking for the server to be super strict or a "high roleplaying" server(strictest form of roleplayer), just a place where people are actually playing characters in a fantasy setting and leave ooc and real life things behind.

Would anyone else like to see this as well?(no real preference as to it being a casual server or a PvP server(or one of each better yet))

While I casually roleplay in MMOs (you know, like blame tarutarus for everything wrong with the world and such), I wouldn't run to a pure roleplaying server. Its kinda difficult to roleplay much in a video game basically because everything is presented to you. You can see your character, your environment, monsters, NPCs and such. Its not like pen and paper rpgs where you really need to roleplay because all of that is not presented to you.

Believe me when I say I'm not against the idea but servers are expensive and I think Blizzard will just stick with the standard pve/pvp set up. Congrats and good luck if it actually makes it in retail.

Actually I've been a part of invitation only renissance festivals where you dress up and roleplay a character. A MMORPG is really a lot like that but EASIER(because you are actually in a fantasy setting already rather than pretending you are in a fantasy setting.

I agree that there probably won't be a roleplay server at launch, but I do hope they add one. One of the big benefits of such a server is you usually have less in the way of grief players(though there are still some who do crappy things and blame it on roleplaying), fewer "Kewl Doodz" and frag-heads. For that alone I like the idea.

Actually all the reasons stated pretty much make it easier to roleplay rather than harder. What makes a computer RPG harder than pen and paper though is that nothing is as interactive. You can't make NPC's follow the story. You can't light a barrel on fire and role it down the stairs to stop the city guards from chasing you. Basically, everything in a computer game is static. These are the things that make it harder.

The main purpose of a server like this though is to have people play as a character and speak as if they are living in this fantasy realm. That's what I'm looking for myself. That's all you can realistically expect in such a game anyway. I do hope it is done though. No computer game could ever compare to the true freedom of a pen and paper RPG, we just have to make the best of what we are presented with.

Thanks for the feedback. If anyone else is loooking for such a server, feel free to add your support here. Every little show of interest can only help.

it would be hella hard to controll thats why... what are you sposed to do kick someone cause they said? "ok im ganna go kill it" insted of "In my heart i feal the evil which surrounds this holy land. i shall raise this forest or Death be apon me!"

kinda hard to contrll don't you think.

I would love being able to group with shamans when i'm a Paladin.

i agree, that would be sweet.

I hope your being sarcastic like I was Nichol. LOL if your not that would be stupid because that crap would only happen in EQ. Shamans and Paladins grouping together would go against the story of WoW and it would also destroy roleplaying in general. I was just trying to make a joke because RP reminds me of how stupid EQ was when i group with Dark elves when i was a Wood Elf.

Well, Roleplaying is far more (or less) than speaking with thee and thou.

Personally, I' love to have a rp server added. Not an "elitist-prick" kinda server, but one where you'll actually have a chance to, well.. roleplay!

I won't be writing out a background for my character(s), but I will have a personality (and even very limited background) in mind while playing.

Also, I was on the DaoC rp servers, and honestly loved it.
Fun people, pretty much every last one of them.

...
And it would help not to see people named "skjzovnqo" or "fartsalot" running around..

i was merly making a statement on how it might be hard to regulate if people are roleplaying or not. i was trying not to be offensive. but anyhoo. i know roleplaying is not like that, and i have dabbled in it. guess i was just trying to be funny. lol

GMs would enforce the name policy, other players would be the one enforcing the roleplaying aspect. On a regular server there are too many people not roleplaying to actually be able to roleplay. On a roleplaying server though a non-roleplayer is the one out-numbered. While they can't make you roleplay, you will get a bad rep and have a hard time making friends. That would be enough to make most people go to another server, unless they are a griefer trying to ruin people's fun.

Kerik... I love your sig, except for one minor detail...
I hesitate to point this out, but... you misspelled "wits".
And my irony meter hits "total" once more...
