After the **** that FFXI has pulled the last two days, ive begun to wonder. Is WoW really easy to solo in as people say? I dont really have time to sit down for 8+ hours to get a pt that lasts 3 hours, and i usually cant even play for that long anyways. Can you solo all the way to the top in this game?

From what I understand, I wasn't in any of the betas, but you can solo. Any class can solo.

Seems the groups were mostly for quests, dungeon crawls etc..

From what the beta testers have said, you can solo.

Which is why I will be playing this game.

Ex-FFXIer too.

What crap did FFXI pull now?

there are some threads on the beta forum about some classes arent as capable of soloing as others, but "....blizzard is committed to make every class competent soloist...." personally i think u can solo all the way, it just takes longer, but beware that u cant reach lvl cap by mass murdering low lvl mobs in newb area like u can in swg, u dont gain xp that way. w/ the upcoming patch ther gonna increase the xp gain for the instanced zones. if you can solo one of the elites ur lvl, then i think u can solo pretty well.

Yea i really like the FFXI system and all but having to solo for 90 mins to get 600 exp is a bit much. I wouldnt mind having dificulty in soloing as long as it was feasable. In FFXI my Thf had ~1.5mil in gear @ level 52, and i was still forced to party with complete idiots gimping their way up the ladder. I would take pride in my avatar and get them the best gear possible, and not have to be forced to play with people who dont care if they are doing good or bad ;)

quite right, u arent forced to group w/ others at any moment if u dont mind skipping a few elite quest or dungeons. lets say if you solo a mob about ur lvl for 50-300 xp, then group w/ one other and take out a slightly tougher mob for an normal quest will prolly be worth 2000.(made up the number, but u get the point.) so a powergamer experienced in powerlvling in other mmos might not advance that much faster than a casual player doing quests continuously and efficiently( if you dont die 20 times a quest, every quest)

dying in wow is really different, if you wanna lose exp its up to you. Your leave your corpse (no one can loot it) and you control your spirit (who runs 2x faster than normal) all the way to your corpse. Getting to your dead bodys easy, on the small map youll see a icon guiding you to body.
Once you get there youll be revived with half your health and mana and No revive sickness .

Yep every class can solo and grouping is fun also.

The game completely eliminates the need for Camping and killing the same mob OVER and OVER again, thanks to the easy to use quest system.

For beta it feels like the final product, they are still adding and changing things.

ex. when alpha and the start of beta rare items were sold again and again thus ruining the economy. They changed these items to soulbind (rare/ex for you ffxiers). This means you wont see items flooding the auction houses and you will not see rare items dropped by enemies at rediculous prices (like in ffxi kraken club and peacock charm).

Browse around the fourms youll find lots of info regarding gameplay and whatnot.

I look back on my FFXI experience and wonder why I even played. SE has horrible support. Everyone I talked to on the phone didn't play the game and was clueless about gameplay. In game GMs were aweful. Most common GM rsponse was "I'll look into it."

I logged in one day to find myself in "jail." The GM told me it was for being verbally abusive in chat or some crap like that. After I told him I hadn't played the game in a week, he said "I'll look into it." Big shock there. Anyway, a few hours later I got an apology from said GM and was free to go about playing. I'd post screenshots, but I deleted everything that resembled FFXI.

Bots are allowed to run rampant. Actually, I take that back. JP bots are allowed to run rampant. Bot hunters were almost as annoying as botters themselves.

Lesson learned though. Never buy a game that is released to me a year and a half after it is released somewhere else. NA's came into the game in an inflated economy that we could do nothing about.

I still play FFXI and I am really getting tired of it. I don't even know if I will last until the WoW release. I WAS looking forward to EQII, but now that I have been enlightened by all the info on this game, I think I'll be waiting for Blizzard to come out with the next great MMO.

WoW is meant to be soloable by all classes at all levels. As stated and should be assumed, there are certain things you shouldn't expect to solo, but you CAN solo. Quests are the BEST way to exp though. Most quest do involve killing a certain number of a certain type of critter of looting a certain item on a certain critter but they tent to be pretty realistic. If an area's quest start getting too tough just head over to one of your allied race's areas of similar level and take on quests there. After a level or two the old quest should be easier to handle.

Overall WoW is VERY casual player friendly. My main game was EQ and if you didn't have at least 2 hours to play at the higher levels, you shouldn't even bother, and even then 2 hours won't get you far. WoW if you feel like playing for 20 minutes you can play, have fun, feel like you did SOMETHING and log. Higher level EQ you just couldn't do anything without some real time commitment.

In my experience, it is very easy to solo. In fact, you can solo a major portion of the quests (which are where the real exp is at). You have to be careful about taking out mobs 1-2 at a time, but it can be done. A few quests are meant to be done by small groups (can think of a few "kill named" quests that fit the description), say 2-3 people. If you have a high enough level advantage you may be able to complete even those by yourself.

HOWEVER, some of the quests can NOT be done by yourself. I'm speaking of the "elite" quests. Typically, these bring you to instanced dungeons. These quests are meant to be done by parties, preferably full parties. The best loot and exp is there, and so is the greatest risk and challenge.

That said, the rest of the game can be done by yourself (more or less). I did a lot of soloing. Sometimes it helps if you temporarily group with another person doing the same quest, then go your seperate ways once you've done the job. Other times you really need the backup, like when you're trying to tackle a quest above your level, or the aforementioned elite quests.

Someone mentioned that you can't simply farm low-level monsters to level up. This is both true and untrue. You get zero experience for fighting monsters six levels below your own; the exp harvest on things three levels below your own is paltry anyway. I found that an area with things between 1 and 3 levels below you can be farmed pretty successfully. A warning, however: a lot of areas have roaming monsters who can prove a nasty surprise to someone who's just farming!

To whoever said that one of WoW's virtues is that you can play for 30 minutes at a time and accomplish something significant: right on.
