Auto AttackFollow

Does WoW have auto-attack?

For instance, a monster sneaks up behind you, do you automatically attack it or do you stand there and take hits until you get turned around and hit the attack key?

In FFXI, yes another reason it was a bad game, there was a form of auto attack.

If you're fighting two mobs, you kill the first, you would auto attack the second ONLY if you were facing it. If it was behind you, you would have to turn around and hit the attack key.

AND if enough time hadn't passed, you'd get a "you must wait to do that action". So you'd be taking hits from the mob and couldn't do anything to defend yourself for a second or two.

If a mob attacked you, you'd have to ht the attack key before you'd attack.

It was a stupid way to do it. I liked UO's method, if you're attacked, you start swinging, even if you dont' have a weapon (in the case of a mage) you'd start attacking with your fists.

Much better way to do it.

How is/was WoW set up?

Yeah... you actually have to engage the mob, though I've found that if you're going warrior and have rage left over, you can just do a special and it will put you into combat mode with the creep.

Eh, it's not a huge deal... it only takes about a second to engage an enemy. Besides, if you want to away, it's probably best that it doesn't auto-engage you.

sometimes mobs will go out of their patrolling routine and inch toward u little by little; and when ur running away, its better to face the direction ur running, and use the camera to look back...

Yeap. Sorry to say, you'll have to put out the massive effort to look at the mob and hit an attack key.

I think its good there is no auto atack, forces the tank to be more alert.

Sorry,

But it's even better than that... If we have autoattack, we soon see a lot of higher level just sitting in lower area and autoattacking all days long... Seems like a sort of bot to me...

So, YAY for the aggressive mob always attacking, and YAW for no autoattacking of any sort...

Sorry to be a bit rude on this point, but bots are one of my greatest grief in FFXI... So, I'm happy to see that Blizzard is not faciliting the task of botter...

First, if you have 'click to move' on, you will turn to face the mob, and if after killing the first one, the second one hits you (which it will,) it will be targeted automatically so all you have to do is turn auto on. That's as simple as pushing a button, and there's no waiting involved.
I personally find it annoying at times that I forget to turn attack on - as a spellcaster that does some melee damage - and I just stand there wondering why I'm not finishing off the mob, but there aren't always times when you want to just start swinging - especially if you have click to move on, because then you auto-follow the target and if it moves, you can't channel anything until you force yourself to stop chasing.

Second, there is very little incentive for high-level players going into low-level areas. They can't PL anyone. The loot gets better at a rate that it isn't generally beneficial to farm there. I can't think of any real reason anyone would do that except to keep all the spawns down to grief the lower-levels.

That's what I wanted to know. The whole having to push a button thing didn't bother me, what bothered me was having to wait to be able to attack again between mobs.

The 2nd mob is beating on you and you can't attack back, that's stupid.

The other thing I hated about FFXI was, when someone cast a spell on you, you were motionless. Couldn't move until the effect was gone.
