Having been playing FFXI there was the ability to change into a job once it was unlocked. Ex. You could lvl THF to 60 then switch to a lvl 1 BLM and lvl that up while still keeping THF at 60. For anyone who has played the Beta could you please fill me in on how Jobs work. Do you pick one and go with it or do you have the option of changing?

You don't pick a job, you pick a class. It was standard for both Square and Enix games to involve a job system, going back to Final Fantasy Tactics and Dragon Warrior 5, but most gaming systems lock you into one path you choose at "birth," and World of Warcraft is no different. You want to start over as a mage after leveling your rogue (thief), you gotta start over.

FFXI's ability to change jobs isn't all it's cracked up to be.

LOl yeah theres really no point when if your paladin you must choose war sub, etc. Its just as limiting as a single class game.

Also no point if everyone can do the same jobs.

Why is your FFXI character special?

You're a lvl 30 Paladin, lvl 30 Warrior, have 50 Cooking and 56 Leatherworking.

Well the guy next to you is a lvl 35 Paladin, lvl 25 Warrior, has 35 Cooking and 60 leatherworking.

That guy behind him is a lvl 50 PLD, lvl 40 WAR

Everyone becomes the same.

What's the point of creating a new character to play a new job? You've done the jobs in your other character.

Now let's look further into it.

Storage is limited. Okay, you want to play all jobs. That means you need to upgrade your moghouse storage and your character inventory, but now you have 5 jobs you're leveling. You need more storage. So you pay an extra dollar to create a mule that does NOTHING BUT STORE ITEMS.

You pay extra money for an extra character so you can store items so you can level multiple jobs on one character.

So you're a Paladin. You need to level Warrior, to use as subjob, and keep it at half you're Paladin's level or you're gimped. Now to level Warrior you need to level Samurai, Ninja, Thief or Monk to use as subjob as you level Warrior.

So that's 3 jobs worth of equipment you need at various levels.

But again, what makes you different from any other person? They can all do the same thing you can if they want to.
