A couple preguntas (from a recovering FFXI addict)Follow

Ok, I know it's only beta and stuff, but I'm looking for a new MMORPG in the coming year or so.

Background info- FFXI was my first MMORPG. Therefore, I loved playing it for a LONG time, because I had no other material to compare it to. After a while, flaws and nuisiances came up (Such as not being able to get anything done unless you play 2 hour chunks) that caused me to quit the game. I'm also entering into 11th grade (don't judge a brotha 'cause he's a youngin') and I probably won't be able to play an MMORPG until next summer or Senior year (AP classes make me cry bloody tears of rage).

The Conflict- So, is it EQII or WoW? I've heard good and bad things about both (EQII has oodles of choices, WoW not so much, and so on) and I want to know some of your dislikes and likes about WoW and your predictions for EQII.

Some questions!- From several screenshots I have seen of WoW, the graphics look slightly cartoon. . . ish. Is this just me, or is it really the style of the game? And does it work?

Sidenote- When looking on the EQII website, the models for player avatars made me visibly cringe.

Also, I loved the rendered armor in FFXI (If you were wearing it, it showed up on your body). Is this the case in WoW? In EQII?

I also liked and disliked crafting guilds in FFXI. They were incredibly fun to get into, and an incredible money sink to continue. Anything different here in WoW?

Also, if you've played FFXI, and are now playing WoW Beta (Seoman, I'm hinting at you) what do you like about WoW? What do you miss from FFXI? And anything else anyone would like to add would be recieved with open ears.

Kudos, and I may be seeing you soon in the World of Warcraft!

And if not, you have only yourselfs to blame! ;)

This is the WoW forum. WoW wins. Tada.

If you want some information, how about you just scroll back through the forum index and look at the four or five "FFXI vs EQ2 vs WoW vs Pants" threads.

Okay, I don't have alot of time (have to study for a quiz over the wonders of Latin) but I'll try to answer your questions as easily simply as possible.

WoW is awesome... haven't played EQ2, but I'm placing my money on WoW.

Yes, the graphics are cartoonishy, but then again, that's the way the Warcraft series is. If they had done it any other way, I would have been not happy.

Yes, what you wear shows up on your character (w/ the exception of trinkets and rings).

Can't comment too much on the crafting in WoW, but it doesn't seem to be a "money sink" as you'll never lose materials. Then again, I haven't done it yet, so who knows...

What do I like from WoW that FFXI doesn't have: Not having to have 5 other people around to wipe my butt, and not having to wait 5 hours to get a group. Also, not fighting crabs that look exactly the same for 40 levels, the fact that quests are actually useful and give items and exp, the fact that mobs drop useful things, don't have to farm for a week to buy some "leet" item that I need to get parties, actually, I haven't had to farm much at all. The quests are interesting, don't feel like I'm grinding to the next level. Character customization is nice (both cosmetic and class related), I haven't seen anyone who looks exactly like me. Umm... I'm sure there's more.

What do I miss about FFXI? Ummm... probably just the friends that I've made while I played it.

There you go... fun game, gonna buy it, you should too...

Sadly I'm not in the beta Smiley: frown so can't really answer.

Can just tell you from what I've seen of WoW and EQ2, it's WoW hands down. No contest.

Yeah, those avatars from EQ2 were... nasty...

Umm, thanks?

All you needed to do was say "I made a thread that's stickied to the top, maybe your answers are there." Wise-***.

Cool, thanks!

Any more tidbits would be much appreciated from anyone.

When WoW was first announced, and I took a quick look at it, I didnt' like it.

The graphics didn't appeal to me.

But when I quit FFXI and started looking for a new game, I took a second look at WoW.

The graphics are growing on me. I like the look of the monsters, some of the horde races i still don't like, the night elf ears still need to grow on me.

But it was the rest of the stuff that I read about that appealed to me more.

As opposed to some people (mostly the ones that have been posting in Red's thread in FFXI forums) I'm more of a gameplay > graphics kind of guy.

As long as the graphics don't make me sick to look at, I'm good. Heck, I still play Ultima Online in the 2D mode.

If you choose WoW, come back and check out my journal. I'm going to set it up for all the FFXIers that will be coming to WoW. A place to find out where all your buddies will be playing. Pass the word to any other FFXIers you know.

Just ignore JAEFo.

We've come to expect that from Jaefo. He tries to scare new people away that ask lots of redundant questions. It's his job and he does it moderately well.

There are very few people that are in both betas that can compare the two. Prior to this weekend, only friends and family were in the EQ2 beta -- it was just extended to Legends subscribers and Lords of Everquest owners, to which I belong to the latter group, but I haven't had the opportunity to try it yet, and more importantly, there is an NDA in place that really prevents me from talking about it. I'll read the NDA carefully to see if I can least eke out an "I like it more/less than WoW," but don't expect a whole lot of feedback on those sorts of questions in general.

I started to post this elsewhere, (I don't think it went through,) but lmao at that link in your sig, Jaefo. Very appropriate for this thread.

The part where all my friends laughed at me because I didn't look at the stickied threads made me cry.

I'm practically a new young adult.

I can if you didn't quote me in the other thread already...not that I remember where I did it, so I'm not going to try to prove you wrong.

FFXI was my first full MMO experience (I could NEVER get into EQ, getting passed lvl 5 was such a chore).

After getting into WoW Beta I wasn't quite sure I was going to like it. I actually didn't play very much for the first month... I was still playing marathon sessions of FFXI. That is until I realized, like you, I wasn't getting anything done in FFXI unless I spent 5 hours sitting there LFG and grinding it out. Mind you, I was a Bard...

Ok, fast forward now to me playing WoW for a little over 5 months now. I love it. I quit FFXI for good. I can play WoW in 30 minutes and finish a quest myself, without a party, and feel that I grew my character. You can't do this in FFXI, ever.

One thing that I do miss GREATLY is the FFXI cooking tradeskill and the food bonus. WoW cooking is horrible at the moment and I do truly hope they add some form of minor stat bonus to cooked food.

The WoW auction house could use some serious FFXI loving as well. But overall WoW beats FFXI hands down.
