In an ideal game, I think every class should either be 2/3 one archetype and 1/3 a secondary, or a hybrid 1/3 of three different types. So a warrior would be defensive/melee offensive, a paladin would be defensive/healing, a wizard would be magic offensive/utility, a druid would be hybrid healing-magic offensive-utility, etc. Theoretically though, while the "primarily defensive" would not be identical for the warrior and the paladin, it would be intended to be relatively equal.
