Dragon Empires newsletter - 3rd September

It is with much regret that we have today announced that we have now ceased further development of Dragon Empires due to technical issues we have recently experienced with the game.

This of course is extremely sad news for everyone concerned with the game. For regular visitors of our forums, these will remain active for the foreseeable future to give you the opportunity to give your feedback and keep in touch with your fellow Dragon Empires community members.

We are still very much committed to entering the MMORPG market and are currently evaluating other potential opportunities, keep your eyes and ears open for news in the not too distant future.

Thank you again for all your loyalty and support over the previous years and we only wish we could have rewarded your passion and enthusiasm with the final game.

Best Wishes,

The Dragon Empires Team

Sucks!

Tis a pity. Its been put to death with Ultima X, Mythica and Warhammer Online. RIP, Dragon Empire.

This was due to a poor game engine. This is why I probably willPraise blizzard for. Dragon empire was a promising game but suffered so many teq issues it wanst worth fixing it. thus was canceled.

Look what blizzard has done on the other hand. their game engine is stable and fluid, even during the stress test. Its a pity that most of the times a game is given a deadline, thus can end up in a cancelation.

Blizzard has not given its game WOW a secure release date, and this is for the better, the more problems ares solved now the better the game will be when it goes gold.

Shame on other developers they should follo blizzards passion and dedication to their projects.

Sad to say, but Dragon Empires won't be the last.

Just look at the sheer amount of MMORPG's that are coming out:

Fantasy Genre:

WoW, EQ2, Wish, Middle-Earth Online, D&D Online, Mourning, Guild Wars

Sci-Fi:

Saga of Ryzom, Tabula Rasua (spelling is probably wrong)

Other Genre:

City of Villians

That is alot of MMORPGs. Add those to the ones already out:

Fantasy Genre:

Ultima Online, Final Fantasy XI, Lineage 2, Dark Age of Camelot, Everquest, Horizons

Sci-Fi:

Star Wars Galaxies

Other Genre:

City of Heroes

I think the gaming industry is going to kill the MMORPG by oversaturating the market with them. To be honest, there is a lmited amount of marketplace for the MMORPG. As it is now, the players pass around from game to game. The newer ones "steal" playerbase from some of the older ones.

When the MMORPG became "hot", all these companies started trying to get into the action and grab their piece of the pie. The problem is that there is only so much pie to go around.

It won't do any company any good if they spread the market so thin among so many games that none of them can stay afloat.

In another year, once all these other ones come out and "test" the waters, the MMORPG won't go away, but it will be drastically reduced in the number of games.

It will be like a couple of years ago where there was only Ultima Online and Everquest, but who knows which of the above games will survive.

Will be interesting to see who ends up on top.

The One and Only SeomanP has this right on the money i think... i know a lot of people at my college who just leapfrog from game to game... they get burnt out on one, a new comes out, and just when they are getting burnt out on the new, another one is reaeased that they hop on over to.. and continue this.

Aaaand you moved on to a new one. Which is exactly what he's talking about. Mhmm. Swell.

What he was stating was that most people jump from one game to another because it interests them. I said I quit games when i feel my money is not going anywhere into the game. The last MMO i played i didn't even purchase i just played the free trial and found out it was a terrible game. Also be warned don't play the MMO Planetside you shall regret it.

Well people don't leave games while they still enjoy them. They play them, have fun, then they start getting bored or fed up with the game, and muddle around for a bit more.. and then something new! Time to move on. It's the ciiircle of liiiife. And it feeds MMORPGs cashmoneys.

Actually have to agree with JAEFo. People play what they find fun and interesting from their perspective, and usually stick with it until it gets old. I have stated this myself at least once before in the FFXI vs WoW thread. I won't repeat myself here, you can go check my post there if you want.
