Does WoW have weapon grades?Follow

Haven't seen this anywhere before, but does WoW grade the weapons to a particular job like FFXI does?

For instance, a Dragoon was graded an A+ with a polearm type weapon and only C- with sword weapons.

This meant that your weapon skill would cap lower, so your attack power (and special weapon skills available to you) wouldn't be as good.

Does WoW have anything like this?

Yes, I know some classes can't use all weapon types (which is the way it should be), but can a Hunter (for instance) use axes just as well as daggers? Both is allowable equipment, but is one better then the other? Or is it just personal choice?

Although i dont belive that there are "Grades" for each class, there are weapons that one class can use that one class cant... Example: I am a warlock, i can use Daggers, Staffs (for 50 skill points), and Swords (for 100 skill points) as well as wands. Warriors have a broader variety of weapons i belive... there arnt any "Class Specific Weapons". Each class can only use certain weapons... i dont know which ones can use what though, ive only done warlock, and little bit of mage so far.

Talking about two different things.

I actually did say that I know some classes can't use all weapons, weapon grades are a different thing.

Say a class is rated A+ with Axes and C- with Swords. That would mean that Axes would be the weapon of choice because you can do more damage with it and learn special weapon skills sooner.

If I understand what I've read correctly, you can buy (train) the ability to use weapons that your class wasn't originally allowed to.

That's different from weapon grades.

Grades means better at using one weapon over another.

There are no weapon grades. None. Zilch. Zip. Nada. Wait maybe there are? Oop, no, there aren't.

Thank god... that was one of the most annoying things about FFXI. If you wanted to be as great as you could be with a class, you had to use their A-rated weapon.

Ah, FFXI, the land where everyone's the same.

No kidding. As a Dragoon, the ONLY weapon I could use was polearm.

I wish I still had the screenshot, but lost it when my computer crashed.

Was a picture of a group of 7-8 people standing around the delivery person in Lower Jeuno. 6 of those people were Dragoons, myself being one of them. All 6 of us were the same level, we all had the same armor, all had the same weapon. The only thing different was that I was a Hume and the rest were Elvaans.

Yep... and you all had the same skills. Well, unless you had different subjobs, but even then, there's only so many subjobs that would work well with a Dragoon.

The lack of character customization, both skill and appearance-wise, was definitely one of major downfalls to that game. People want to be unique, not be carbon copies of everyone else.

Stupid SE.

The carbon copy aspect was the ONLY way that the party system in FFXI would work.

To have to party to get your experience, every person playing the same job had to be relatively the same.

This to me was the worst thing. It wasn't the player that mattered so much as it was the job that person was playing.

ffxi weapon grade blows goat balls. its prob the aspect i hate most of the game. As you all pointed, people had the same weps and armor. I find it really stupid, why let a class use different weps if they excell using a frying pan.

Heck there are so many mmos out there that you see a 5 different warriors and there all unique.

If Blizzard decided to do somthing like this (please read well i said decided) I would personally go to thier offices and slap em all with a huge trout.

Forget the trout, an aluminum baseball bat.

And you'd have to wait in line behind me.

Very well, Ill wait in line but make sure you inflict enough open wounds on em so i can add my special spices and salt into their wounds then marinade em so we can have a good cookout.

So in otherwords use a sledgehammer to damage your bat so it can get some sharp spots.

Oh OH then gut their bellies so we can play with their insides.

I don't want to kill 'em. Gotta leave 'em alive so they can fix the problem.

hmm equipping fish on my off hand...but can it be used as a wep?

Nothing will be more satisfying than killing a human with a trout. (in game wise)

I've caught some of those "held-in-hand" fish. Never tried using em as a weapon. If you have dual wield it'll either have you attack unarmed with that hand or just not have it attack at all.

From what I understand, any class can get dual weild, just need to buy the skill right?

Hunters and Warriors get Dual Wield at 20. Rogues spend skill points to get it (or maybe they put in a quest for it.) No other classes have it.

Wow, Seoman, I was reading this thread, and not the post that caught my eye, but WHERE you're posting from, you're up in New Hampshire, eh? I am down in Mass! :D

Sweet, that made my day. I wanted to be a dual wielding Hunter. Makes my day to find out I don't have to spend skill points for it.

Yes, I'm from New Hampshire.. sadly... Smiley: cry

Hunters are not fully implemented yet. Pets only have a taunt for skills, all pets are same, pet damage is bugged, several aggro and combat related bugs with pets.. sure you don't want to try out a more fully developed class?

I'm not a beta tester. Hunter's the class I want when it comes out.

When did I say you were a beta tester? I was suggesting you try a class that's more fully developed, and then hunter at open beta or release when the class is done and polished...

Edit: Oh I see. No I was referring to what you would play in the stress test. You got into that, didn't you?

No, sadly I didn't.

By the time I found out about it, you had to pay to get account, didn't feel like paying fileplanet for one.

Especially since it was a stress test. Normal beta would have paid, but not stress.

It's not like will be doing much actual playing. It'll be very lag heavy with lots of shutdowns.
