having never played the game myself all of this is just speculation based on games i have played in the past. since i recently learned that there are only 5 people to a party or group or whatever you call it on WoW, i have been trying to figure out some good party combinations. if you beta players have any useful info about these groups, or things you noticed during game that made things good, please let me know. also all of these configs are horde only, me and my friends are gonna put together a static party and only lvl together, we are gonna be the horde, so none of the party configs are gonna have a paladin, all are gonna have a shaman. plz plz let me know what you think about them, also if you have any good horde pt configs for yourself post them and tell me why you think they are good.

1.Shaman, Druid(caster/healer)Warrior(defensive), Rouge, Warlock
2.Shaman, Priest, Mage, Druid(tank), Hunter
3.Shaman, Priest, 2x Warrior(1x tank, 1x damage dealer), Hunter
4.Shaman, Druid(caster/helaer), Hunter, Warrior(def), Rouge

once again all of this is just speculation, ive never played the game before. just looking to find a good pt config for me and my friends. thanks for you help

those would all prolly perform well, and not much better than any other of each other, however, having a priest for healer will always be better than having shammy/druid for a healer. having a bear form druid tank will never be as good as a warrior tank, etc.

ok i have another question, with a shaman should we have just one more mage class(a priest) or 2 more. also, what does a shaman do in battle? totems, buff, melee, magic, heal? or does it depend on what you specialize in? anyone have any good party configs they want to post plz feel free to do that, and if possible plz explain why each party member is good for the pt. thanks so much, sorry im such a n00b

The best combination for a party is...

5x players.

With the ability to customize and specialize (the talent trees), is it even possible to form a "good party archetype"?

In FFXI a Dragoon was a Dragoon, a Warrior was a Warrior. You knew what you were getting. Party was always: Tank (Warrior, Paladin or Ninja), Healer (White Mage, Red Mage), Support (Bard, Summoner, Red Mage), Puller (Thief, Ranger), and round out with damage dealers (Black Mage, Monk, Dragoon, Dark Knight, Samurai).

There wasn't much difference between lvl 50 warriors. Same abilities, same equipment, etc..

Now with WoW it seems like you can customize your character by choosing to specialize in one of the talents.

One Warrior may be more Protection, another may be more Fury.

That means if you bring a Warrior to the party, which one are you getting? The role performed by that warrior is going to be different depending on the talent.

So this leads me to believe there is no "cookie cutter" party templates. Each one will be unique, which is a good thing.

First let me say to Seoman and all other FFXI players welcome. All exiles of highly tedious MMOs are welcomes here.

As for party configs, from what I have read, the "proper configs" will only be needed for certain quests (like Epics), instance dungeons and elite monsters. Aside from that, there's no real restriction in party configurations. Don't quote me on this but in the same time I would like to say that we won't have any real idea how partying will be like until retail comes out.

Something I just thought of..

"Ideal" party configurations would vary depending on if Alliance or Horde.

The Horde doesn't get Paladins, Alliance doesn't get Shamans (right?).

yes true, and really a tank and healer + anything almost can be a party, ideal no, but a party none the less
