ok, so, as some of you may have noticed, its been a while since ive been here, and there is a reason for that. by no means do i not love you people any more, specially you Lady D, and i cant forget you JAEFo ~_^ but on thursday my computer got the Sasser Virus, supposedly a new strain, one that the fix isnt out for yet. i spent over 40 hours since then trying to get my net back to 100%, well, now i have it at about 50%, meaning that i have the net, but, my roomate doesnt. evil damn router, refuses to see the net connection and let me input the damn #s and setup info... i wound up formatting my hard drive to get rid of the virus (as well as a couple other minor ones that kicked my virus scan program in the groin)....

anyone else out there have a Linksys Router that may be able to post a quick walkthrough to getting the accursed thing going again? i dont remember how i set it up in the first place.

Yes, Kao can help you with this. Best bet post in Tech Forum and he will see it in the morning about 5am or tomorrow afternoon around 3pm, both CST.

Glad to see ya back and we will do what we can to help you. I have a linksys and it was a royal pain to repair. I ended up having to call Kao and kept him on phone long distance for like two hours because I couldn't even get on the net.

I will check back tomorrow to see your progress, night night.

Hi there. Yeah, i'll see tech support stuff faster if it is in the tech support forum

There could be a variaty of things at work here. First, with your router connected to both computers and both computers turned on, unplug the router power cable for 30 seconds. when it is back on, go to your roommates computer and type in 192.168.1.1 if your roommate can bring up the router info screen, then the router is connected to your room mates compter, and being recognized by the router. It should autodetect computers on the net unless you have disabled automatic setup

If you can hit the router page, but can't hit the internet with just that one computer, the issue is likely with that computer. this can happen particularily if you have Norton Internet security installed on that computer. the easiest way i have found to deal with this under windows xp is to remove the netowork device and let it rebuild. you can do so by right clicking on "network neighborhood" and clicking on properties.

if that doesn't do the trick, it may be infected. in that case, grab the latest windows updates manually, transfer them over on a disk, and install them, should bring it back up.
