I'm sorry, this isn't so much about the whole "Ask a Tester" idealogy of this thread... However, I was looking at the worldofwar.com forums and it makes me sick... Are the majority of the people who are playing this game as of now so disrespectful, self-centered, arrogant and idiotic as the majority of the posters I see on that site?

Edit* Two more questions... Is the new push as bad as the majority likes to make it seem? Also, what's this SM farming?

This is the internet. Wherever you go, there will be chumps like that. There will be people who buy the game and then spend all their time whining on the forums. That's the MMORPG way. Most people I meet in game are usually far more decent people than anyone on the forums. In history, and WoW is no different, the whiny punks on the boards have been a vocal (very vocal) minority.

The new push is fine. Better than fine, as I can finally play on the FvF server. Minor changes happen to classes and people cry bloody murder. Some things certainly still need changing, and we're getting there, slowly but surely.

SM=Scarlet Monastery. Last push it was the highest level instanced dungeon, and people were abusing certain game mechanics to quickly farm large amounts of blue (powerful semi-rare) items, which meddled with the economy. Two glaring instance exploit problems have been fixed, and we'll see what happens now that the cap is 45 and we have some new places to go.

Hahaha, I guess that's true, it seems like every time after any type of change is made to a job people get in arms screaming about "OMGZ UR T3H W34K S4UC3 I R T3H N3RF3D GIMP!!!!111" Meh, shoulda' figured.

At any rate, thanks, I was more than a little concerned with what I've heard about bnet players in general. Basically, it seems like they would be worse or equivalent to AOL script kiddies and such. I had almost decided not to play this game when it's released were that the case =\ At any rate, thanks, and I'd be very appreciative if you would be patient enough to let people so unfortunate as myself know more about the game in general. What can I say? I'm pretty interested in how this game will shape up.

Maybe, but you can bet that there are bnet players now and there will be many more later. Besides, it's a good name to brand annoying ignorant people with. Instead of saying "stupid noobs", you can just say "dang bnet idjuts".

In any event, discussion boards are an outlet for people who like to whine and rant and complain and call undo attention to themselves. The people posting don't seem to realize that there are guest viewers who are regarding the game unfavorably when they read the sewage there...or they just don't care.

I doubt their mommies trust those little snots enough to give them their credit cards for an MMO.

One could only hope so ^^; From what I've heard of them, I'd rather not get to know people from bnet. As for the mention of bnet people in the first place... It wasn't that I was saying WoW is bnet.. I was saying something along the lines of... They could be fan boys and fan girls, hence they would jump to Wow just because it has the Blizzard/WarCraft name on it... Truly terrifying...

And they'd quit after a month because they had no idea what they were getting into.

Or, they might like it so much that they decide to stay... If they have enough time and it entertains them as bnet does/did, it's a safe bet they'd stay. *shudders*

I have a few questions then.

1) How much do people have to work together? Is grouping necessary? I want an mmorpg, not an rpg that other people happen to be playing.

2) Are the system requirements higher or lower than FFXI? I'm having to buy a new graphics card before I can play it (and the best I can get is junk cause I can only use low-profile cards), and I'm hoping I can play this too. So are the graphics more demanding or less?

1) In beta, with only about 300 people on the server, I can yell in a zone "Level blah blah so and so looking for group for this and that quest" and put together a group fast, or get invited to one. And 150 of those people are horde and not even in my zones. So come retail I would guess that it would be quite easy to get a group if that was your thing.

2) Give me your specs and I'll tell you if it'd run. I'm running a 1.7 GHz Athlon XP, 768 DDR RAM, and a GeForce 4 MX 440 (the ***** of the GeForce line) and I run at about a good 20 solid FPS unless I'm in a really packed area like stormwind or I'm flying on a gryphon (this is with graphics turned down and clipping plane at medium.) Game still looks swell for me and runs dandy.

2.6 ghz pentium 4
256mb ram (sd or dd, I dunno, this will be upgraded soon I hope)
and... if I can find an actual nvidia kind, the same card as you, cause it's the best card that will fit in my case. All I can find are other brands using the geforce technology. I'm kinda afraid of those. Any suggestions?

And about the first statement, why would you want to solo all the time in an mmorpg. I just can't understand the urge to pay $10 a month to play morrowind, basically. I play online games to meet people and have fun in groups. (Btw, morrowind is a dull, boring, stupid game; it's an mmorpg without the mmo)

Jaefo - there are more than 300 people on the server. In fact, now, if you try to change realms, you can find out how many people are on each of the two servers. The couple times I've looked, bother servers were above 750, so there were at least 1200 on when it was just one server.

subvertedhope - I'd advise getting some more ram, but that applies to just about any program these days. Blizzard is of the intention of being able to allow older machines to run the program, and not require the state-of-the-art system that doesn't even exist yet that Sony has in mind for EQ2. Blizzard games as a whole tend to have low requirements, partly because they're good at what they do and can optimize stuff, and largely because they take so long making games that by the time it's out, the game has been in development for several years and what used to be top-of-the-line is now practically obsolete from a gaming perspective.

Azuarc I play from midnight to about 2 PM. During the night when I was playing there were 300 people (I had just relogged to check server amount and see how many people were playing horde), and when I needed a group for something, I got one.

And yes sub. More RAM. But don't get any GeForce MX. Any other card should suit you, but don't get one from the MX line. I can't recommend any specific cards, though. Maybe someone else can help out on that.

Hey i have another question if you don't mind. I dunno if this has been answered previously but, here goes. What is the currency like in WoW? I know there's copper, silver, and gold, but what do the represent.? Like is silver the equivelant to 10 copper? and gold the equivelant to 100 copper? And how hard is money to get? And how important is it? Like will i be able to get a full suit of armor that's at least decent for my level all by questing? Well thanks for your time, and i'll be waitin for the response :D

JAEFo: my parents for some dumb reason decided to buy us a Dell Dimension 4600c. In case you don't know, the computer case is tiny and I can only fit low-profile cards in it. I spent all day yesterday and a good portion of today so far looking for other options that will fit my case, but the geforce4 mx440 is the only one I can find. If you want to look and find a better one, then feel free.

GeForce FX 128 DDR 8xAGP. How will that work?

Money: 100 copper is 1 silver, 100 silver is 1 gold. Money comes and goes pretty easily. You'll be spending it mostly on equipment upgrades and your new skills when you level (and trade skills if that's your thing.) Right now, if you have money, there's probably something out there to spend it on.

Right now I'm barely buying any equipment for my 17 pally and I'm doing pretty well just using drops from mobs and quest rewards.

Subverted: Looks good, I'd go for that one.

Too bad I'm broke right now. Gives me time to make sure it will fit first I guess. -shrug- Not like WoW will be here any time soon (but my 30 day trial on FFXI is ticking =x)

1) Are any of the Rogues skills usable with ranged attacks?

2) Can Rogues use their poison on arrows or bullets?

Thanks in advance.

1)No

2)The wording makes it seem like they can be. My buddy's rogue is almost 20, I'll check it out when I can. (They'd be used on the bow/gun, not the arrows/bullets, if they could be used on them at all)

SOOOOO, seeing as how grouping is "required", how many testers have/are steadily seeking joining groups over soloing, and for those that are, are the required archetypes of players readily available or are you forced to sit in town for 30 mins waiting on a tank.

As a side note id also like to know if anyone looks for groups not for a quest but just to group and kill things/explore.
#49 Jun 20 2004 at 4:29 AM Rating: Decent
Thanks for that, I'll await your findings.

Shame Rangers have no stealth skills, I was hoping to make a sniper like character. If Rogues can poison projectiles then that will do nicely.

Vamp - nobody sits around and waits for a group unless they're trying to do something out of a select list of quests and activities that nobody can *really* do alone. Nobody can solo most elite quests at a semi-reasonable level. Nobody can fight into and through Scarlet Monastery and kill the bosses there without using exploits. (This was the place to be for farmers.)

Otoh, people aren't afraid to make groups to make doing certain non-elite quests easier on them. I have to kill 8 Shambling Skeletons, and so does this guy I'm fighting over the spawns for? Simple solution. You both get credit for each kill while grouped, and each goes by smoother with a second person helping.

Grouping is not required for at least 70% of the material in the game. Soloing is not more desirable for most of that 70%.

As for doing things with a group other than questing, yes sometimes. People who want to explore a new zone, particularly an intriguing but nasty cave, or who want to farm an instanced dungeon (like Scarlet Monastery,) will just run around killing stuff. Truth be told, this is usually more for the benefit of seeing items drop than it is for gaining exp.

Blizzard has been very careful to tune out the mindset that the best way to level is to endlessly kill the same creatures over and over again. Because of the quest rewards - exp and loot - and the implementation of the rest states, (which is still being fine tuned and still broken,) the game does not lend itself to mindless slaughter. Which is good...I think my retinas are burned from how many hours I sat in Velk's Lab fighting white spiders on a white ledge in a white cave for 90+ hours across one week. (But darnit, I got from level 53 to 59 in that week!)

I have anotha question :). I was looking at the Journals and i noticed something. Every battle clip he took was in first person mode. So does this mean that when your in a fight you automatically go into the first person? Or was he just doing that as a preference? Thanks for your time once again, and i'll be looking forward to your answer :D

Edit: And incase you were wondering what exactly i was referring too. It was Danalogs Journal (the first entry) :D
